  1. I should clarify one thing. As far as the wife knows every "What are you doing such and such time" question gets the reply - "I plan on going fishing".
  2. If this is for the spinning reel Cabelas just had the Supreme XT for $100 Id rate that a 5 at $100.
  3. The operator of the reel will most likely be the #1 factor to accomplish this feat with todays low profile reels. I have an 11 year old $70 Pinnacle reel that I get this distance with 1/2oz res. All my other reels, in my hands, will as well.
  4. I just go, didnt have one trip planned this year.. Ive been on my way to one lake then change my mind turn and go to different one.
  5. X2 with smalljaw67 comments. I get different brands as well but when I got my 7M/F Smoke rod it impressed me the most of any rod I have bought in the past 5 years. This includes cumara, elite, LTB, ***, carbonlite, veritas, bucoo. Its the only rod Ive ever bought duplicate of and soon to triple it. Weight power balance action very good sensitivity at great price now. Another person recently got the 6'6" smoke and says he's impressed and has a bunch of different brands 3rd paragraph in post here: http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/40660-show-off-your-stuff/page-99#entry1607832 You mentioned about these rods being moved out,yes because a new smoke rod is on the way
  6. Though I had bad experience with my first Lews product I think Im going to try the new 5.7oz Team Lews Lite reel. Im going to pair it with my 3rd Quantum Smoke rod I plan to get as well.
  7. Vary from moment to moment for me. I use both terms here and there. Now that Im thinking more about it Im sure I'll use "fishing pole" or "fishing rod" not just pole or rod.
  8. Where I fish if I say what size fish Ive caught that day lets sat 15" without fail the person that asked me will say they caught one 2" bigger 17". Doesnt matter what number I give theirs is always 2" bigger. I catch a 19" they say they caught 21", I catch 14" they catch 16". And yes one of my buddies lost a 6# trying to lift it out of the lake grabbing the line, so he said.
  9. FYI Walmart has the Krios for $75
  10. At times with backhand cast I will grab the lure with free hand, hold it, load the rod some then let go and cast, sort of like slingshotting it gives a little more oomph. Here's a great video on it
  11. I have *** Black rod (7'1"M/F) and Tatula reel To me they do NOT pair well together at all. Whats wrong is a combination of the weight size of the Tatula and the small diameter of the *** handle. The combo has a sense to tilt to the handle side of the reel in hand. Letting your grip loose, reel wont stay upright so well. I need to squeeze too much to keep it from doing so and over a days use is bothersome. Now putting a smaller reel on *** like 50 size reel helps with this even a larger 150 size reel but lighter than Tat makes a noticeable difference. The Tatula on a rod with larger handle say Quantum Smoke rod also works out better. So individually they are ok, paired together not so much.
  12. baitcasting Brass gears vs aluminum gears. Many prefer brass which will give a smoother feel. Also the size of the gears teeth can/will make a difference smaller teeth give smoother operation. Fit- are the parts on without any play in them. The side plate dont move wiggle, the knobs dont have excessive play in or out wiggle on the shaft. Dials that click seem to be a feature people desire, drag star, spool tension knob, external brake. Brake system, can the brake control spool without having to constantly adjust them and still give satisfactory results. People take a liking to certain brakes based on their casting style so this can be personal preference area. I really like the new SVS shimano style brake system. "Made in Japan" is almost a certainty that its a quality reel.
  13. I had a BB1 Pro and would say pass on it for the range you wanting to toss. Just going by the lure rating of the rage rod 1/8-5/16 is lower than what BB1 Pro is just starting to be good with.
  14. I fish some clear waters and have seen many times a bass take wacky 5" senko ikas nightcrawler and only have it half way or by the skirt(ika). It will grab and then run 5 -10 feet then spread mouth to engulf lure. Setting hook too soon would result in pulling lure free. So yeah with these presentations Ill wait a bit
  15. I have 7'1"M/F *** and feel tip is too soft for use with 3/8 jig/ trailer + fluoro. On a few outings tried a 3/8 Keitech Spade jig with rage baby craw trailer 12# Sniper FC. Spending too much effort overcoming rod flex and line stretch every time the jig gets against a weed or in whatever cover to get it loose. Jig gets stuck give a pull rod flexes. give harder pull rod flexes line stretches. give even harder pull rod flexes line stretches more finally jig gets free. Doing this over and over was bothersome and good luck getting a good hookset at fair distance. If matched with braid that would help considerably on this rod but still get tip flex.
  16. Distance is important on every cast made. You can have distance without accuracy but you cant have accuracy without distance.
  17. When you have a fish on avoid rocks Also Ive wrapped braid around my pliers handle and it sliced right into the rubber handle so be mindful of this as well.
  18. I bought a Tatula Chronarch CI4 and BB1 Pro at the same time. The Pro was the only one to give me any issue. It started screaming on the cast. The levelwind became very loose and wobbly after just a few weeks use this lead to casting issue bad line lay backlash. The knobs started to peel only after about 4hrs use. So to me durability was very lacking. On top of that it didnt cast any better than the other two reels. When using lures under 3/4oz (basically everything I use) the CI4 could outcast it easily. Lures under 3/8oz and CI4 shined .over the BB1Pro. The Tat was cheaper cast very well so kept that and CI4 much better so kept that returned the Pro.
  19. Still are But the few good ones I get catch fish
  20. I have a small squirt bottle filled with 90% rubbing alcohol I use after I get my gear in the suv. Too after catching a pike will give hands a squirt or two. Once I get home after an outing and gear put away Im in the shower getting the sweat & sunscreen off me.
  21. Well like I mention dont target them often but when I do I have SPRO 30# wire ball bearing leader.
  22. use a good leader I dont really target pike but they take quite a few of my 1/2oz lipless cranks and bucktail jigs. They like spinnerbaits too and I have better luck not getting bit off with them. Yesterday pike got my last spro prime bucktail jig sliced through my 12# sniper fc with ease.
