  1. Wind and rain 43 degrees today but was rewarded with this nice 5 pound bass. Was at the place only 15 minutes and caught it, only bass of the short day. Caught on Mepps in-line spinner using Avid 8' ML/Mod rod Daiwa RG-AB reel 8# Nanofil.
  2. Go into any thread and near bottom of page there is a "sign in now" use that. If you dont already, when you sign in make sure "remember me" is checked so you stay signed in.
  3. Welcome to the club happens to quite a few of my RES I buy other brands now and have no issues with them.
  4. I have a smorgasbord of braid pp 8-10-20, pps8s 10-15-20-30, Gamma Torque 30, sufix performance 20, 832 20, Smackdown 30 40, Kanzen 15, Trilene Pro 30 40, Samurai 40, j-braid 30, YGK G-soulX8 60. Id say get .011" dia of your choosing. If smaller(or any) get the line on VERY TIGHT this helps greatly. PPS8S the quietest. Trilene Pro holds its color the longest. Sufix performance 4 carrier 20 the loudest. Smackdown way overpriced for its performance. Kanzen is the worst/weakest I have used.

  6. At the 1:56:00 time a person asked the all wondering EPIC question of... You're allowed one type of bait to fish the rest of your life, what is it? see video for answer
  7. Many people choose/have a favorite technique that to them is the most fun. Some buy hundreds of jigs and that is their favorite thing to fish. Others its spinnerbaits and they will throw them all day long. Many go UL only not using over 4# line for their fishing. Along those lines to some anglers their niche is to throw lightweight baits on a baitcaster. To them its a very fun fulfilling challenging way to fish. And going by the premise of using short 25-30 foot casts as stated by Ned shouldnt be an issue with using bc to present a ned rig, the fish dont know spinning from casting. So no legitimate reason for one angler to mock belittle(which has happened on this subject) another on their choice of equipment they choose pay to use.
  8. My kids were wide-eyed and curious at me just now. I went out in the cold to find out what is possible. I used 1/20 trd a 50E reel with one green brake and 20 pound braid on a 7' MH/F Shimano Crucial1/4-1oz lure rated rod. Easily 3 times the amount highlighted. These TRD's are small compact aero dense baits not airy like say shad raps
  9. Okuma Helios rod 7' Medium Heavy Fast would work well. Extremely light 3.4oz and well balanced yet has some power backbone for jigs. Its regularly $180 but walmart has them for $120 leaving you with a good chunk left for a very good reel. https://www.walmart.com/product/34742965/sellers Only read below if you want to treat yourself to the outstanding workmanship of a Japanese made reel ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The new Shimano Chronarch MGL if you are willing can be purchased from overseas for around $230, well when in stock. Rated a "10" for performance on a popular tackle review site. quote " the results are phenomenal. We're talking DC like performance in ease of casting" https://www.digitaka.com/list.php?category=14&series=CASTING REEL&item=CHRONARCH+MGL+(New) This would make an excellent under 10 ounce $350 combo. OOPS just realized you mentioned salt the Chronarch MGL is NOT saltwater safe.
  10. I use Shimano Curado 70 and Daiwa SV105 reels. I use Medium Light powered rods 6'9" & 7'6". With these combos throwing 1/20 TRD's is easily accomplished.

  12. Yes get a high quality snap On my first bass of this year I got lucky when this snap let got the bass was on shore so it didnt get away but here is pic of the snap. The fish was 17" 2-1/2# and the snap failed. The rest of those snaps have been tossed in the garbage.
  13. Id go light $$ on the reel and heavy $$$$ on the rod. President XT 6.6oz $80 and Megabass Orochi XX $275-$285
  14. Braved the wind(30-40mph) today but went to the corner of lake and had wind to my back plus a little hill and trees to block some wind. I managed 2 on a Keitech 3.8" fat paddle tail. Around 17" 2-1/2 pounds was the big one and fortunate to have landed it... I had been tossing inline spinners for pike just before keitech and had a wire leader by means of a snap swivel well that snap swivel gave out. I thought my line snapped at first but 30# braid doesnt let go so easily. Once flopping bass was under control I eyed my line and saw the culprit. The snap cut my line.
  15. Get the Live Target 45 T instead. Very close in size but the body is softer and the hooks expose much better than the chuck-its. The Green chuck-it body is rather stiff while the yellow one is just a little bit softer I have missed quite a few bass with both of them. The hook-ups are much better with the T45.

  17. here is my take on 3 of my most used last year being .011dia pps8s gamma torque smackdown strenght/dia 1 2 3 quietness 1 2 2 price 2 1 3 subtleness 2 1 2 smoothness 1 3 2 bleed 1 2 3 my findings knot strenght wise smackdown 30# isnt quite as strong as PPs8S 20#. Gamma Torque braid is very limp off the spool will fall straight off while unwinding where S8S and Smackdown will have coils
  18. Quite a number of times Ive set out for a morning of fishing with just one lure one rod/reel. One time it was just a Fat Ika another jigncraw another senko another pond magic spinnerbait. Or if Im trying out a new lure thats all Ill take for a few outings. Like when I first tried Keitech paddle tails thats all I use for like 3-4 days.
  19. I like a short shank- a barb on top and barb on bottom- would like eyes but not a deal breaker. Shape not a big concern but if same price would pick a head that is more detailed or minnow/fish head shaped just cause.
  20. There are finders out that may be of some use these you cast out and use phone as screen. Never have used them
  21. My only higher end rods are USA St Croix Avid,LTB,Elite. But my favorite rod was made in China Quantum Smoke and I was so pleased with this rod I bought 2 more of the same something I havent done with any other brand. As long as performance is there (balance sensitivity power durability weight) and Im pleased with the product that is fine with me.
  22. How about something nice and light to take advantage of the light reel??? Okuma Helios 7' M/F @ 3.3-3.4oz to have a very light rod/reel set-up. The bonus is the Helios rod is at walmart for $107 regular price $180. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Okuma-Helios-7-Medium-Cast-Rod/34742964 Here is the balance with a 50Core on the rod, tip is still light in hand.
  23. These Trokars work extremely well. They have a shorter shank than most makes it easier to get the bait on straight. Also has prong on top and bottom to keep the bait from turning over or sliding down unlike say the Owner hook that only has one and bait slides/spins more easily. Trokar is also more stout/strong than the Owner. The Owner flexes some, that I dont like for its price. For less money these Northland Mimic Minnow jigheads have worked well and a bit more detailed. Not as large a hook but they work, caught my PB using one with a 3.8" SIF.
