  1. I tried for trout again today 2 bites caught one.
  2. Will go Christmas if not going to in-laws we havent decided yet. I got out today Northern IL at favorite little lake for trout fishing, didnt get any.
  3. Yes braid or nanofil all I use for ned rigs, never have used FC. In general choose braid for its sensitivity no stretch and way better line management over FC. But you should always if possible try for yourself.
  4. Specialized no but correct gear for the cover yes it does.
  5. Well Im not going to use my ML/Mod Avid to throw a senko in lily pads but Ill toss senko in pads with my Fenwick World Class 7'6" MH/F. So YES specific gear can be necessitated to match where you are fishing.
  6. Use straight braid for all presentations(but not exclusively) wacky senko included. I also fish very clear waters 15+ visibility on the deeper lakes and can see bottom on lake I fish that only get 6-8 feet deep. On the fishing braid against other person fishing FC wont work its not definitive test too many variables. I have fished side by side with both of us using FC and out fished that person and the other way around. I have used braid and out fished that person wasnt the line. I do fish the same lake day after day usually 35-40 hours a week ice out to ice on. Ill take braid only at times and FC only or a mix. Never have found a discernible difference in catch rate or size. My most productive hour and 1/2 of fishing was with wacky senko and braid(well nanofil) one fish after another after another. With FC and wacky senko on same lake have not come close the the same catch rate.
  7. Spinning 6'6" MH/F Premier its only rated to 14# line and doesnt have all that much power it flexes down the rod rather easily so it would be iffy for frog use IMO. Has an ABU Cardinal 4000 on it (9.2oz) so balance is fine wouldnt see an issue handling wise just the amount of power, I would say get a Heavy. I have MH/F casting rods that have more power than the spinning Premier MH/F. I dont use a heavy rated rod at all though. My son when he was 10yo used this set-up a few outings didnt have issues with it.
  8. No one would suggest it but my favorite senko rod is a St Croix Avid 8' ML/Mod spinning. Line 8 pound nanofil or nanobraid distance is great and the no stretch sets the hook better at distance. Ill reluctantly go up in power to a St Croix Legend Elite 7'6" M/F if needed.
  9. Most productive "new" lure this year and just below Keitech paddle tails for most productive of any lure. Yes the eyes fall off easily but the durability of the body for me has been great, no loss of tail on any. Plus mend-it can be used on the fins/nose when they do start to tear. Used 1/2oz the most in 20-25fow
  10. At standard pressure or compressed in a can the chemical element helium exists in a liquid form once released out of the can it turns into gas. One 3oz can is good for 1500 recharges on a standard 7' MH/F rod.
  11. You can go to Autozone and get the Helium fluid to regas the rod. The bottle is in same aisle right next to the blinker fluid. Very easy DIY project.
  12. Favorite Fat Ika hook Gamakatsu 4/0 Deep Throat wide gap Think that might be the only Gammy hook I use.
  13. Its not about higher price to get lighter weight. There are a number of rods in the $150 price point that are much lighter than comparable length power and action rods 3-4 times the price. Dobyns, NRX ,ST croix extreme, Megabass dont have super light weight rods in the 3.3-3.5oz realm for 7' medium heavy fast action casting rods. Quantum Smoke, Okuma Helios, Phenix Feather, Powel indurance rods do weigh in that range. Smoke and Helios rods also have rather good balance even for being so light.
  14. Come on man: Loomis make NRX blanks available for builders. Come on man: Bring back 2 speed selectable low profile baitcasters.
  15. 8' ML/MOD St Croix Avid for 1/8-3/8 SK Rocket shads. I use no stretch lines though nanofil or braid. I feel most people use too powerful of a rod for most situations.
  16. I cant answer but to say my best spinnerbait day was dead calm no wind at all very clear water.
  17. FLW fault and obligation not MLF. Sometimes a dream turns into a nightmare thats life.
  18. The reels I saw the most improvement were 50e and core50mg and CI4. The curado70 with new brake system not much difference. There is no doubt you can get more distance. I had spots I could not reach with stock bearing in the 50e/core50 but threw past spot once aftermarket bearings installed. Its not about maximum speed of the bearing any cheap stock bearing can handle the relatively slow speed of these spools. It more to do with better efficiency less resistance. Oh and mostly the ability of the user to extract that performance benefit.
  19. I gave em one chance but the product they sent me was subpar. Crooked guides poor fit/finish blank defect. Not again. Maybe mine was bottom of the barrel trying to get rid of the inventory.
  20. Your link looks correct Here some more info with videos https://www.bocabearings.com/parts/Shimano-Citica
  21. Boca Bearing site 40% off--- free shipping over $17.95 code: THANKS40
  22. So the issue is cranking Can a longer handle be rigged to use on the crank?? Or use a power drill to do the cranking for you.
  23. Spool tension being too tight also hinders the retrieve effort makes for increased handle tension. I like handle to be free and keep spool tension to a minimum. I never adjust spool tension once it is set not for wind not for lure change- its set and forget.
