  1. I found this many years ago and probably out of date now: Hardness Values Stainless(SS): 400 Chrome: 800-1000 Carbaloy: 1000 Aluminum Oxide: 1200-1400 Alconite : 1300-1500 NanoLite : 1800 Zirconia: 1000-1400 Zirconia PVD: 1600 Silicon Carbide (SiC): 2200-2400 Information on titanium carbide is pretty interesting. Titanium carbide films have found wide application in various tribological engineering devices owing to its excellent hardness and, therefore, wear resistance. To apply titanium carbide coating on various substrates, physical vapor phase deposition (PVD) and chemical vapor phase deposition (CVD) methods are commonly employed. The key word here is "coating" because titanium carbide in its bulk state is not used. It has a hardness of around 3000 (30GPa). Notice that the BPS Carbonlite rods use the term PVD coating. The problem I gleaned from the information I found is that titanium carbide coating hardness is hard to determine because of the material it coats (which is usually a ceramic of some sort), but they are working on it. Hialoy is really a high content aluminum oxide (used on many rods), that is diamond polished. I cannot find any information on whether its hardness is different than regular aluminum oxide.
  2. My logs are narrative in style, but always include the following: Time I launched Temp forecast for the day Current wind direction and forecast Time of high tide Time of low tide Current temp and pressure Water temp Water condition Condition of grass Baits I used Baits bass caught on Number of bass caught Where I fished Time I quit
  3. Here is a good one. In October,1996 I was getting into bass fishing and not knowing what I was doing I bought a Stradic 4000 FE for $120 from a tiny tackle shop. I used it a half dozen times (my only spinning reel) realized it was too big for me, switched to a Sahara 2500 and put the 4000 away in its original box (with the free extra spool) and there it sat until last year when I decided to put it to use again. Lubed it up and checked everything and it is back in business. Needless to say it fishes like a new reel LOL. The only problem I have is turning down offers to buy it. I had completely forgotten it came with a free spare spool.
  4. The attached shows the various grasses we deal with in the Potomac, but many of these are found in lakes/ponds. You can just move the cursor a grass type for a close up. Your pic looks like the bottom is covered with Elodea, short and clumpy. https://www.chesapeakebay.net/visualization/baygrasses/#11/38.3767/-77.1487?year=1984&compare=2013&chart=temp&segment=POTOH1
  5. A BPS 7' MH fast tip Carbonlite 2.0. Works great.
  6. I am not a braid expert on the various manufacturers and just gave it up years ago because I tired of dealing with it.
  7. Good question. My 14 year old Curado 100B's don't have it and it doesn't make any difference at all.
  8. I would say it depends on where the Senko is going. In my case it is really thick hydrilla so it goes on 15lb Invizx on a bait cast reel.
  9. Bought the basic SLX XG, swapped the spool bearings for Hedgehog half open SS ZR high speed bearings, swapped the drive shaft bushing for a bearing and swapped the drags with Curado 70 XG Carbon Tex drags and it is one sweet little very fast, very smooth reel.
  10. Debarb the hook. Been doing it for 15 years now on the Potomac. No, I do not lose fish. Just reach in with your long pliers, grab the hook, give it a gentle twist and slide it right back out. No barb, no fuss.
  11. Spinner baits on a Curado 200E7 7.0:1 and blade (chatter baits) on Curado 200I HG 7.2:1. No deep thinking on using either one. I just initially set them up that way and it works for me and never changed it.
  12. Just read an article on a bass pro chatter bait lover who says he uses a heavier trailer to keep his from rising.
  13. For me some plastics and crankbaits on 12lb Invizx.
  14. 10lb mono worked for me for years on at least half of my bait casters and I loved the stuff.
  15. Mike Seibert, one of our sponsors on here offers some great swim jigs made to order and customized as you wish. I just got his four jig variety swim jig pac with special skirts and wire wrapped.
  16. A uni for me for every kind of line. Never a failure.
  17. I run a group 27 12V (weighs 59lbs) for my digital, variable speed 55lb MototrGuide and never run out of power. My starting battery is a size 24. 12V 1000CCA. and runs the two sonars.
  18. With a 150 hanging on it if you are ever boarded by a game warden, or coast guard you will be in deep trouble.
  19. There is a dangerous bacteria in the river right now, so keep the water out of your mouth and out of any opening in your skin.
  20. Put me down as preferring not to fiddle with a screw on for a jig railer. A bit of a pain.
  21. If I go to a Yum I will add a 1/8th slip sinker since they tend to be a lot lighter than a Senko.
  22. Stick a worm in your pocket and go to either Ace or Lowes and pick the size O ring that fits your worm. Really cheap.
  23. All I have ever used is a Gammie EWG 3/0 and 4/0 for my Texas rigs and a Gammie EWG 2/0 for wacky.
  24. Something is wrong there. I always Texas rig an EWG texposed on a 5" Senko and drag it through various grasses and have nothing on the hook when it comes back.
