  1. my take.. I don't see any room in the low profile category so If shimano is coming up with a $200 reel, I think they need to release a low end Calcutta replacing the Calcutta A or B. It would have the same design of the new Calcutta D with lower bearing counts and other shortcuts to bring the price from $350 to $200.00.
  2. I like the PPS8S it is smoother and much more abrasion resistant than the 832.
  3. Pretty good review A-Jay The JDM has the 100 size D model and it comes with the easy access to the brakes..
  4. I guess you are lucky for not being able to discern the difference in feel between a mid price reel to a top end reel, since you save a lot for not buying the top end reel.
  5. The only thing I don't like with Daiwa is that they put plastic parts on their top end model like the TD ITO 103M, plastic on the face plate, handle nut cover, worm sheild.... They are pretty good though.
  6. 2X on what DVT said! If it just rain or fresh water, I would not worry about it. Just let it drip out. I use the calcutta TE100GT and Conquest 100 on saltwater and wash then with water from the faucet, I would see water drip out from those holes after washing.
  7. The only downside on the CT 200D USDM is not having an easy access to the brakes, you need to open it and take out the spool to adjust the brakes. But the CT100D JDM has the easy access to the brakes.
  8. If you are still having occasional birdsnest even with full or all brakes on, add a drop or two of oil on the spool bearings. This will slow down the bearings and will result to less chance of overruns.
  9. Cool catch!
  10. You are going to love the Cumara reaction CUC63M, it's your best bet. It's on sale at Tackle Whorehouse for $139.99. You don't want to miss this sale. I love the CUC63H with Calcutta 50XT for Sammy 100, Gunfish 115, Spooks and POP Max. It's light and good balance. The CUC63M is even lighter
  11. Mr Clean magic eraser use it wet and just rub away the stain in the cork. It does not leave a soapy sud, I don't think it has soap on it.
  12. I only apply it once! Cork will absorb the first time you coat it. It will seal those cork pores.
  13. I coat all my cork rod handles with it. Love it! It did not change the cork feel. When coating a used rod, use a magic eraser to clean the cork before applying!
  14. I got the CI4 2500 and love it!
  15. Curado 50e is your best bet, you can still find them on fleabay for around $120.
  16. Chronarch on ugly stick, not a good idea for the chronarch. Chronarch on 6'6"MH or H Phenix UMBX is a better match if you are limited to budget. I don't feel much of a difference between MBR 783 GLX and 606H Phenix UMBX.
  17. You should get one the shimano high end reel like the conquest 100, calcutta te100GT or the core 50, then if you don't like it at least you would not get annoyed when they make fun of your abu reels since you feel that abu is far more better than what they have. As they say " if you can't beat them, joint them "
  18. I only turn off all the breaks when I feel that the spool bearings are sticky and not performing at par otherwise I will have 2 breaks on on the average.
  19. I'd like to see the GT version of this new Calcutta D. That will definitely going to be a sweet reel!
  20. Cumara Reaction 6'3" M would be an excellent pair for 50e for your needs(weightless worm and small topwater lure). It's going to be sweet, Total weight of the rig(Rod and Reel) would be = 10.3 Oz, It is well Balance Rod. Tackle WareHouse has it on sale for $139.
  21. I like the color and the weight reduction from the previous version plus the smaller profile. Only downside is the plastic line guide. I hope they would release the 100 and 50 size model soon...
  22. .. and I thought I'm done looking into buying reels... Calcutta D is on the market on August
  23. Once you learn how to use baitcasting rig, you'll hate yourself for not trying it sooner. Yes, it is really that much fun compared to spinner.
