  1. Incidental catch on LC Flash Minnow are: Corbina Yellow fin croaker Barb surf perch Calico Cabezon White Sea Bass and any thing that swims in the water. 90% of my catch is halibut although I get skunk most of the time and that what's keep me from targeting halibut. An average of one or two for an ok days and mostly shorts ones below 22". A good day would be one legal (22") and around 5 -6 short ones. You need to learn how to read the water to be consistent but there would still be a lot of skunk days. See you in the sand.
  2. I only use bass gears for the Surf, usually 6'6" to 7' rod setup for targetting halibut. I use the following lures for them: 1. Luckycraft Flash Minnow 110 in metallic sardine pattern - for moderate to a tad rough swell. Other jerkbait I use ( Ima Sasuke 120, Luckycraft FM 130 MR ) 2. 3" Big Hammer swimbait in keylime, sexy smelt amd seawolf pattern rigged on 1/4 Oz leadhead - for calm water. 3. 3/4 Kastmaster in Chrome - For rough swell. Good luck!
  3. Saturday 9/3 at the beach 34" California halibut on 3" BigHammer swimbait w/ 1/4oz leadhead. Sunday 9/4 at the local park LMB on topwater LC sammy 100 Please pardon the big smile..it's my PB for local parks and besides i still have that aftershock from yesterday's big halibut.. Monday 9/5 back to the beach This one gave me and my rig a good workout.. 4.5 feet Shovel nose guitar fish on Ima Sasuke jerkbait..
  4. I found those disposable lens cleaner pads effective in getting rid of those slimy, sticky film on the septon reel grips/soft rubber reels handles. The Wipe'N Clear from costco works great. It's even biodegradable.
  5. Great find!!!
  6. yeah, I also find that Calcutta TE GT and Calais have the same smoothness and casting capabilities.
  7. Yup walmart has owner hooks, it's the only place I could get those Owner #5145 Ultrahead Unpainted Round Jig Heads for cheap. Oh I rarely have owner hooks rust. Pretty reliable hooks.
  8. The Calais 200 is definitely smoother than the core 100. My only complain about the calais is that, it's a pain in the arse dis-assembling it for maintenance. You need to unscrew at least 6 screws and unclip a c-clip to get into the drag washers.
  9. OMG !!!!! I was in a public toilet in GUAM and had just sat down when a voice from the next cubicle said "Hi !, how are you ?" Embarrassed, I said, "I'm doing fine". The voice said "So what are you up to ?". I said, "Just doing the same as you, sitting here !". From next door, "Can I come over?". Annoyed, I said " rather busy right now". The voice said, "Listen, i will have to call you back, there's an idiot next door answering all my questions".
  10. If you guys ever needed a reel oil that would keep the spool bearing freely w/o re-applying it every mo, TSI 301 is the best one in the market. Just don't get plastic parts get in contact with it. I've used Xtreme reel oil which I like it, but you needed to add a drop at least every week before using the reel. ReelX is okay but does not keep the bearing spin longer like Xtreme reel. Corrosion X is also good but sticky when you stock your reel for a couple of months without using it. Here's how I use it: 1. Remove the bearings to be oiled. 2. Flush the bearings with those airosol brake cleaners or Carb cleaner using bearing blaster. 3. Air dry the bearings using the canister duster 4. get a small glass bottle and add just enough to submerge the bearing complete. 5. soak the bearing. 6. take the bearing out of the bottle container and let it dry on a table napkin. This will be enough to remove all excess oil. 7. Re-install the bearings. 8. Now you would have less maint to do and more fishing time. This will keep those bearings spinning longer without re-oiling them every week before using it. I got those 8oz in can, I think it will last me a long time. The price is good but the shipping is a lot. Oh well, at least it cut's down the reel maintenance big time and more time hunting for online bargains. Oh, I still use the corrosion x for the reel handle, worm gear and others.
  11. Boga grip IGFA certified. The 15 model is pretty compact. Love mine, best gripper and scale in one.
  12. Cu 50e for $60 and stradic for $55 !!! ???? .. Wow, why can't I bump to those kind of deal...
  13. yeah, i like the reaction much better... aside from a very good placement of hook holder.
  14. If I can only have one with that budget, I'd go with Curado 50e on Cumara Reaction 6'3" Heavy Fast Action. For me this one is pretty versatile, I can use it for working: 1. topwater - spook walk the dog, 2. jerkbait - luckycraft fm110, ima lures 3. small hard plastic swimbait between 3" to 5" - sebile, luckycraft. 4. paddle tail swimbait (3" to 5") with leadhead 1/4 - 1/2 oz. The only thing I don't do with it is drop shooting. Oh yeah, glue a nickle and a quarter on the butt end with shoe goo for better good balance the stick a quarter size felt slide for soft cover.
  15. I put a combo of pink and green on my reel. This way I have a more precise adjustment by selecting colors depending on how much brakes i needed. I start with one pink. If i needed a tad breaking power, I will turn off the pink the set one green. If I needed some more breaking power I will turn off the green and turn on 2 pinks. I set two pinks directly opposite each other. And so on and so forth. Result: more distance with less birds nest.
  16. most of my baitcasters are spooled with 20# braid w/ 6# mono diameter. Have no issue with casting them.
  17. Cool, I may have to try it soon. Thanks for the info!
  18. can you tell why you like it and how does it compare to 832?
  19. Try it out. Let us know how it compares to 832. FYI, as per specs the dia is thicker for the 30# rating, it's 10# mono dia equivalent compared to 8# mono dia equivalent of 832 for the same 30# rating.
  20. You should go for it. It's a lot more fun using the baitcaster may it be saltwater or fresh water. The only time i needed a spinning is when throwing weightless lures. Try the curado 50e or any of the calcutta TE 50/100/200 GT , I bet you'll find it hard to go back to spinners once you learn how to use it. The CTE 100 GT is a great dual purpose reel size, freshwater and saltwater use.
  21. yeah, the 100 size is good for both fresh and inshore saltwater application, but the 50 might be a tad limited to fresh just because of capacity. Although you can always use braid 20#s, workable as long as you don't get hook up with other big specie while fishing for snook or redfish . JMHO.
  22. good thing your wife knows a lot more about good combo
  23. that happens to me once. I noticed that i slipped the line in one of the ring guide bracket instead of thru the ring. Silly me i was rigging without checking if line goes thru the ring guides correctly.
  24. A DEA officer stopped at a ranch in Texas , and talked with an old rancher. He told the rancher, "I need to inspect your ranch for illegally grown drugs." The rancher said, "Okay , but don't go in that field over there.....", as he pointed out the location. The DEA officer verbally exploded saying, " Mister, I have the authority of the Federal Government with me !" Reaching into his rear pants pocket, he removed his badge and proudly displayed it to the rancher. "See this badge?! This badge means I am allowed to go wherever I wish.... On any land !! No questions asked or answers given!! Have I made myself clear......do you understand ?!!" The rancher nodded politely, apologized, and went about his chores. A short time later, the old rancher heard loud screams, looked up, and saw the DEA officer running for his life, being chased by the rancher's big Santa Gertrudis bull...... With every step the bull was gaining ground on the officer, and it seemed likely that he'd sure enough get gored before he reached safety. The officer was clearly terrified. The rancher threw down his tools, ran to the fence and yelled at the top of his lungs..... (I just love this part....) "Your badge, show him your BADGE........ ! !"
  25. Looks good, it will sure minimizes the line twist, although there's a slack or play between the twisted wire ends that holds the hook. I think this slack would absorb the twitching action thus requiring one to make a more pronounce rod twitch to give the same lure movement as compared to the usually drop shot hook setup. I would stick to standard drop shot hooks. JMHO
