Definitely need to have soft plastics in your arsenal. Slowing down when the reaction bite stops is a good way to locate fish. Carry both rods and have the spinning gear rigged with a jig or your favorite soft plastic to save time.
At the start of the year it's time to put on the waders and fish for trout in the streams. MD DNR does a great job stocking our waters so there's always something biting.
For the 1/8oz. Pond Magic's I use spinning gear.
Mojo Bass - MBS68MXF
Johnny Morris - JMQ2000
Anything Heavier 1/4-3/8oz.
BPS 7ft. Med/Fast Crankin Stick
BPS Pro Qualifier 7.1:1
I agree with Tbird, I like to use the Zoom Screw Lock frog hooks. Rig it weightless Texas style and let the Senko do all the work for you.
It's also easy to switch out the bait to a fluke, craw or another soft plastic without retying.
Senko's are definitely a confidence bait that I use all the time. Only problem is that they don't last once you get bit. For me, the Slurpies hold up better than most and you can usually catch multiple fish. The expensive brands work great but are only good for 1 bass, 2 if your lucky.
Hello BR, my name is John and I have been bass fishing for about 3 years now. It's become my favorite species to fish for since there's a handful of small lakes in Howard Co.
I also fish for trout in the colder months thanks to DNR and often fish the Chesapeake when the reports look good.
