  1. Topwater... Any sort of Topwater. I've caught things on spinners and cranks and senko/bottom worms. But I have yet to catch a thing off the topwater. I tried this last summer some froggin' and buzzbaits, but for some reason I cannot get a single fish to take them from the top of the water. Hopefully will fix that this spring.
  2. Oh, don't get me wrong, I'm not asking because I felt the need to justify, or to change his outlook on the whole subject. It just kind of puzzled me that someone wouldn't get the general idea behind sport fishing. Esp. someone who's an avid outdoors man. Then I started thinking about what the best way would be to explain it to someone who didn't know about it.
  3. So the other night I was telling my soon to be Brother-in-law about the good fishing I've had this last little bit, and showing some of the video I captured. His question to me was... "Which ones did you keep?" He looked at me like I had two heads when I explained to him that I let them all go. That I was doing catch and release out there on the lake. I struggled to explain that I didn't have the need to keep them as I wasn't planning on eating them, and that it was for the sport of it all. Anyone else have any experiences with explaining to people the whole catch-and-release concept?
  4. It's a Spongebob Squarepants pole that my buddy bought her for her birthday. Has real fishing line and drag and everything. Originally it comes with a little "Plankton" character for just playing around with it, but I couldn't find it. So I just tied on a hook some sinkers and a worm. I figured with the small hook she'd catch some bluegill or something but when it started taking drag almost as fast as she was reeling in I realized it was something bigger.
  5. So we got a chance to go out again, this time with a dedicated "camerawoman". We found out the boat isn't long enough for REALLY good pictures and video, but you can gather the idea =) And her very first fish! All in all, a good day
  6. Welcome welcome. I'm really amazed at how many VA people seem to be popping up here lately.
  7. LOL, don't feel bad, i about responded to it too, until I saw the Alachua mentioned and thought "Hmmm, that doesn't look familiar". Then I had to go look it up and realized it was a completely different state =)
  8. This video is actually for another brand called the Bass Hunter, but the Pelican is essentially the same boat. Very similar construction and stability. Around 1:30 you can see the weight/stability demos that they do that also worked with my little boat =)
  9. Thought this was an interesting read. The more I'm fishing it, the more I'm finding the bigger ones too. Now getting them to bite is a whole other story =/ http://fredericksburg.com/News/FLS/2010/082010/08052010/566549
  10. Welcome! Getting back into the sport I've been thinking about all the fishing I could have been doing in other countries I've been in. Almost makes me wanna go back and try it.
  11. Welcome welcome. Pull up a chair, sit on the floor. Admission is free pay at the door!
  12. So I finally had the time to get together and take the youngest of my kids out on the boat with me. The older two have had many turns, but I've been putting off taking the 3 year old out on the little boat. Turns out, she's the best one to take out. She was mostly content to eat crackers and sing songs to me. Took turns with the binoculars. The fishing wasn't all that great, but oh boy did we have fun. Pictured below is Beauty and Beast. I'll let you figure out which one is which
  13. Yeah, when I first went looking for the motor for mine I wanted one with foot control. Then I started looking at where in the boat I was going to put it in amongst all the gear, and how to secure it down, etc... etc... Then I got it out on the water and realized it was small enough if I leaned one way or the other I could turn it anyway and didn't have to deal with foot pedal so I myself some money in that respect and did without.
  14. I bought and have been playing around with one tube of the attractant based on the endorsements I've seen here on bassresource, and it seems to do pretty good (I'm not totally sold on the smelly working for fish, but I would give it a try). Other than that most of not using any of the other products is that I don't see/hear of them. No tackle places where I impulse buy baits have I seen them stocked, and I'm not really an online tackle buyer. For me, seeing and "touching" them is kinda important before I go trying to get them into my tackle box.
  15. LOL, the map and the name didn't even spark my memory until you guys started talking about it. I didn't remember the name out there. I was stationed at Ft. Huachuca a few years ago, and I know I fished there once or twice, but darned if I couldn't remember a thing about it. Good times... Good times.
  16. Definitely a great ole' time. Was great to meet you guys. Wife and I had a blast. Most of it was off and on for me. got two good bites, but didn't quite complete the hook-set. Still learning this whole soft plastic thing, but they seemed to be hitting the Ika pretty good for me. Landed one decent 2-3 pounder, but he wouldn't hold still for the scale so it's mostly guestimated. Also got some pics of the few of us fishing from the the bank. I agree! When we doing this again?!!
  17. Congratulations! I'm with ya on this one.. I'm still trying to get actually hooked up on a frog lately. Hasn't seemed to be working so far =(
  18. I got these http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0014437HY/ref=oss_product and they work great for the catfishing, and I just screw them to the seat brackets like I did the fish finder. One on either side for max trolling effectiveness, lol. Fits both spinning reels and baitcasting very nicely.
  19. It's actually supposed to be a lake =/ Usually it's about 4-5 acres with an island. My brother guestimates it's got about 630 cubit feet of water in it at the moment. Because it's in the middle of a community, I'm sure there will be a few people who will be working on helping it recover afterward, but no-one was really sure the best places to go for stocking/structure and what-not. I'll be sure to pass along what we've got so far. Thank you everyone very much.
  20. 6:30 is alright, the wife and I are putting together time for it =). Do we need name-tags or a rally flag, lol?
  21. I was at Gander Mountain, and I bought a pack 10 each. I think the one is smoke/purple, and the ikas are pumpkin/black.
  22. So I went looking for these fabled Senkos and Ika's to try out finally, and got confused when I got to the store. Couldn't find anything listed as a "Senko" all I could find that looked like all I'd seen were called "yamasenko", and as far as Ika's all I could find was in their "discontinued" rack and they were some pumpkin fat ikas. Going through the articles now, but did I miss something in a change to these lures naming them different?
  23. K, so the lake near where my family lives has had some dam problems, no pun intended. And now they're working at draining the lake and repairing the dam before filling it up again. Does anyone know any good resources that the community can call on to get the lake back up to par after it's all repaired?
  24. I was looking at these two. Do a lot of podcasts on my commute to and from work =). In addition to the Edge and Bass Feed, I found Ultimate Bass Radio. Dunno how good any of them are, but I've got some episodes downloaded now to try out =)
  25. Anyone have an address I can plug into the GPS to get there? Tried looking up Innsbrook on Google, and it didn't really show me a body of water. Gonna try to make it, but I've gotta work that night, so I don't know how long I can stay.
