  1. Thanks everyone! Looks like 6'6"-7' MF is the popular vote. As much as I'd like to go with the Loomis or St. Croix, they're a little out of my price range. I was looking more towards the Veritas or I might be able to squeeze out the funds for a Verdict.
  2. What would it be? I'm not talking brand/model. I need to buy a spinning rod and I need a good all-around rod. SO, what length / action would you carry if you could only carry ONE spinning rod with you when you fish?
  3. So for those of you that think they're rated less than they really are, is it enough of a difference to order different? Meaning if I wanted a MH rod would you order a M or would you stick with the MH and just know that it's going to be slightly stiffer? Is it a full step stronger than rated?
  4. I certainly agree with that. I guess I just hate to see the abuse when there are plenty of us that would love to have what they don't appreciate.
  5. I was watching some coverage of the Forest Wood Cup this past weekend and saw several pros throwing their combos down when they lost a fish. Now I know that for them to be fishing at that level they surely have a nice stock of combos to fall back on, but why risk screwing one up? I just cringe when they do thinking I just wish I could afford to have a few extras of what they're throwing around... I don't treat my combos like they're fine china or something but I'm not slamming them around when I lose a fish. I know I don't have as much riding on it as they do either. So, how do you treat your combos?
  6. I've always been very happy with the Black Diamond "Spot" You can choose a 3 LED option for a dimmer/wide light or a bright 1 LED option for more of a spotlight.
  7. It mentions people kidding him wanting to check his livewell for coyotes. If you can figure out how to catch a coyote on a rod and reel, it should be allowed at weigh-in!
  8. A regional license would be great! I live in GA but am less than 10 minutes to TN and about 30 minutes to AL.
  9. +1 for practicing in the yard. Best advice I can give for that is don't go for expensive line at first. During the learning process (and even after you think you have the hang of it) you will have plenty of nests... I just found it a lot less frustrating when I wasn't worried about losing a spool of expensive line.
  10. Wow those are sharp! I think it's time to replace my spinning rod....
  11. Excellent! Thanks!
  12. no I have not done any fly tying. Does the hackle come in different lengths? If so, what would you suggest?
  13. I was reading the Take It To The Top Part I article here and in it he mentions hand tying hackle to the rear treble. Does anyone have pictures of their Pop-R with said modifications? I have never dealt with adding hackle and am curious about the procedures and materials. Thanks!
  14. Why do you say that? It will not be my primary combo. It is not in bad shape. It works and is actually very smooth. Yes it's a little heavy but for a secondary combo I don't see any problems with using it.
  15. I inherited an old spinning reel from my Grandfather and I'd like to find a good rod to match it. I know it's no top of the line reel or really anything special but it has a lot of sentimental value to me. It is a D.A.M. Quick 220. It is a stout 11.9 oz and has a ratio of 3.5:1. What would YOU use this reel for? What kind of Rod would you pair it with? The only problem that makes this a little more difficult is I need to keep it under $50-60. Thanks for the help!
