  1. Thank you for all the suggestions and help - I now have 2 sponsors and a 3rd in negotiation - and for a beginner, that's plenty to start with. As far as larger tournaments, I did start that last season with the 'Pack' tournaments keeping in mind, last summer got my feet wet and taught me the beginnings of tournament bass fishing - now with winter here and a bit of time to "breathe" - we just got a new boat (Pro Craft) and are looking at what trails we'll be doing next season. We're already planning on doing the Lackawanna Trail - just waiting for schedules to post
  2. That's pretty much what I'm doing Working on the coding for the website - I am now on the pro-staff for Backwater Custom Baits (awesome baits btw) - I'm also affiliated with Reels-on-Wheels out of the UK (we're working on a joint venture project) - and have another pro-staff offer in negotiation.. so - things are coming together, slowly but surely
  3. Thank you fishfordollars.. And roadwarrior.. no worries "constructive" criticism I can handle - I'm here to learn.... just remember, pick on me - I tend to pick back
  4. Probably one of those "duh" questions - but if I were to put my resume in this forum - what's the best way to do it?
  5. BTW... I'm building a website and trying to bring a positive awareness towards angling around here and by default, hoping to get more ladies interested. I've started writing articles for a local magazine "Susquehanna River Magazine" and am also submitting tournaments reports to them. Its strange - I never thought I'd be doing "any" of this - and yet, it all feels so natural!! But then - we are all about education and conservation and I hope my exuberance is contagious
  6. bassnajr: Its great to meet a fellow Backwater Custom Baits staffer 8-)
  7. Did I mention I feel like a helium filled astronaut with all those layers of clothes on? (added of course to all the support bracing on the right lower leg - its a wonder I can breath, much less cast!) ;D
  8. Glades.. that's awesome! Hope to see updates as to how she likes it!! Rob and I went on the river for a few hours this morning.. (hoping it works) this is the little lady I brought in
  9. Hi River Rat! Thank you for your kind words and directional support! I have actually put together a resume and the one company I sent it to, actually complimented me on having an impressive resume - and apologized that they weren't adding any pro staff at this time. So I guess I'm marketable 8-) just need to be able to get over this "newbie" hump
  10. Thank you Roadwarrior I'm looking forward to getting into many thought provoking discussions
  11. Thank you all again! The people here are not only welcoming but helpful and being new, believe me - its very much appreciated. I can't even begin to put into words how much fun I've had this past summer fishing the Suskie Wednesday series as well as the Monday series and I'll admit, making to the championship at both - really "reeled" me in I got my first 2 fishing trophies this past summer and placed 7th in the Suskie championship and 4th in the Monday team tournament. Now, I'm like a sponge - I want to learn more, get involved more and expand my contacts and affiliations. This is a life I never thought I'd be involved in.. but I thank the heavens this door of opportunity opened - because I'm "hooked"
  12. Good Evening, As the subject title states, I'm a new angler having first hit the Susquehanna river this past June and then 10 days later, joined the Suskie Bassmasters and participated in their Wednesday River Series (I played registration clerk as well) LOL.... When the 13 week series was over, I made it to the championship and placed 7th and also made it into the Monday night team series championship placing 4th. To date (since June 16th) I've participated in approximately 26 tournaments. I am in fact, looking for sponsorships / pro or field staff positions - but my reasons for aiming toward this goal isn't for merchandise and "freebies" - but more for presentation - as I am one of only a few women anglers in my area. When I placed 7th in the Suskie championship, I had the other 2 women comment on how my accomplishment inspired them - and its for this reason (and my own love of the sport) that I'd like to find sponsorships - because through them, I can pro-actively pursue and encourage the conservation and protection of our natural resources through responsible angling [in order to ensure these resources for future generations] and also stand as a representative for the industry to encourage other women to become actively involved - all while promoting and marketing products (I've done public affairs and marketing with the Air Force Auxiliary for 30 years now). To my way of thinking, its a win-win scenario. But as the subject says, "New Angler" so any assistance and feedback would be very welcomed!
  13. Well, its been a while since I posted - so I figured I'd chime in here once again. Not only am I still angling - but I made it to the Wed night series championship and ended up placing 7th! and - made it to the Monday night series championship and we (team tournament) placed 4th Not too shabby for a 1st season angler LOL. Anyway.. as I said before the bite has been horrid and is still horrid - I watch many long-time anglers on this river leaving without even so much as getting a bite. Will I continue? You bet!! I'm not only trying to venture out and find women angling organizations - but I'm working on a website and seeking out sponsorships. I look at it this way.. every step I take, every click on a website, every new bait, and even every cast is all a new learning experience and one I can slip into that learning edge portfolio! Only difference now, I must wear a LOT more layers of clothing.. it gets downright cold out there
  14. Mind if a very new - novice bass angler jumps in here? My BF is a semi-pro angler (vp of suskie bassmasters) and when we started dating, introduced me right off the get-go to his world (as I did mine - which is medieval rapier/sword fighting). I have since been in several tournaments (mostly river) and the bite has been horrid.. I have 1 more week to actually weigh in - if I'm gonna make the top 30 for championship.. I guess you could say it would be easy for a new female angler to get discouraged with as bad as the bite has been.. but every week I'm back out there doing it all again - and loving every minute I'm on that water.. (he, of course is in 7th heaven about it).. All in all.. either your going to enjoy it - or your not.. its not something that can be forced.. Oh.. btw.. he's started teaching me to use a bait-caster - and yea.. i get the occasional birds nest.. but I'm having fun and honestly.. although I fished as a kid with my dad.. I never knew there could actually be so much to learn in a sport like this - but I'm learning ALL the time Give me the choice to go shopping and get my nails done - or go out on our bass boat and fish... I'll take "bass thumb" hands down any day!! ~Lynda
  15. I'm being taught on the Susquehanna river which I'm told learning on a river is probably the most difficult place to learn on.. but its not going too bad.. trying to learn the different lures and when and where to use them, how to set - and working on my cast - not to mention a crash course in meteorology! LOL. I was amazed though - how many similarities there were between the boaters safety course I took - and private pilot safety/pre-flights, etc..
