  1. Fished Clinton Saturday and Sunday morning. Saturday there were so many bass tx's going that I gave up after my first spot as every place I had planned on hitting had 2 boats on it. Again, way too many bass boats out there for that size lake. Hit the gravel pits for stripers but only caught about 30-40 whites and was off the water by around 8:30 am for breakfast. Camped out there so wife daughter and I swam/partied most of Saturday so no fishing that evening. Sunday I had a later start at about 5:45 and had a limit by about 8am. Went to make a run down to the power plant intake from by the marina and about halfway there I had a cylinder drop out. I was able to limp back to the ramp at about 20mph and figured it was a bad coil pack (or at least I was hoping...) took boat out of water and figured I would try to find a laptop so they could run merc program on the engine (I had hoped Clinton had one...) and while at the ramp took the cover off to check all the basics. what I found was a spark plug had come disconnected...pretty cheap and easy fix! I must have knocked it lose putting oil in that morning as my head hurt and I was moving pretty slowly. Ran to IP point and caught a bunch of walleye and wipers that were all busting the surface until about 11. Saved a handful for the fryer this week and will add pics once wife sends to me.
  2. Its as easy as you make it. Just make sure you are prepared prior to the actual ramp. No one really minds someone that takes their time and backs up a ramp correctly or learning to do so- we have all been there. Just make sure when it is your time at the ramp that you have all your straps, motor mounts off, etc. and your plug is in as most people will get really frustrated if you are stopped at the ramp for things that should have been done prior to taking a place. Also, if it is dark, turn your lights off when backing in or else the person backing in next to you cant see a thing in his/her mirrors.
  3. I think all swimbaits especially the proven ones even need tuned a bit. Hardgills, slammers, most of the swimbaits I throw do need tuned. that being said if you need low weight hard swimbaits that don't cost a fortune stick with spro, mini slammer, and savage gear. I have less experience with savage gear but so far their products are pretty legit and a savage gear glide swimmer would only run you double than the baits you are looking at.
  4. Clarksville to Chicago....
  5. As a heads up. That is one of the longest most boring drives known to man.
  6. I personally think DNR's also do a pretty good job as they also have to manage for different results and not just big bass, bass catch rates, etc. a quick search of geist brought up this however which leads me to believe that the lake has other issues but still produces apparently. http://wishtv.com/2015/03/20/hundreds-of-dead-fish-becoming-a-daily-event-near-geist-reservoir/ Looking at Summit lake stocking it appears that the walleye stocking was a result of an overpopulation of yellow perch which I assume was a detriment to the overall fishery. Its too bad they did not stock tiger musky instead... They did that here at a local lake about the same size and it has turned into both a great bass and musky factory (along with a great saugeye/walleye population).
  7. 3rd and 4th dynasty's in Egypt were fairly peaceful and prosperous to cherry pick one here. that being said I find it much more useful and engaging discussing the reasons and circumstances of world history and not memorizing dates. I would tend to agree with Cgrinder here in that he is being evasive as going into the specifics of the who's, what's, and why's of middle eastern conflicts would easily fall on the other side of the isle than what would be allowed on this site. As the initial ("they have been throwing rocks at each other for all of time...") indicates a need or at the very least a correlation between the people and a perceived propensity for violence of which he (and I) also would disagree. My apologies cgrinder if I am wrong in this assumption. I don't find any revisions to history here however I do see a mistake in: "If I have to go into either a religious or political discussion why these dates are not accurate then I'm revising the historical record, in short lying. " The most important part of history and conflicts is understanding the "why" part. It would be like me saying to you after I poured a cup of coffee on you "you drink coffee". Because you have coffee spilled on you, do you drink coffee?
  8. fished this weekend at Evergreen. Water was 5feet of visibility or more a week/2weeks ago and Saturday with the wind and runoff 6 inches. Caught a bunch of small ones and a bunch of walleye/saugeye in the 14-20 inch range. Fishing Clinton this Friday Saturday and sunday so hoping for some picture worth fish.
  9. god I would love some of those 7''ers!
  10. Sometimes a bit of tact or "trophy" giving is necessary for all people. After all, I am sure at some point someone said to you that you are a pretty good stick. In my line of work there is only brutal honesty, yelling, etc. and that's in banking. Not sure about other professions but most everyone I have worked with through the years has had pretty thick skin. I don't see people getting softer these days, but these days are not yesterday and I believe to be successful you also have to be adaptable. I don't exactly think I want to go back to my grandpas days afterall... I also believe there always have been mean, soft, lazy, hardworking, etc. type of people out there since homosapiens came about (and before). We however now have more instances of interaction with all people, and there are more people in the world to boot.
  11. 2 weeks ago I set the hook fishing a slammer about 10 feet from the boat. I thought the fish engulfed it as I could see mouth opening and it and was easily the biggest fish I have ever seen personally out on the water. Most likely only in the 8 range, of course I will never know. it turned at the last second and I still don't know if I dragged it away or if it really did just turn away at the last second. I thought for sure I would feel weight leaning on it and it was a terrible feeling when I did not. Wish I knew if I should have kept it steady, killed it and turned it, or if it was just not going to eat either way. went back in the general area for 4 days in a row and never caught another glimpse.
  12. all have been coming on Hopkins shortys, 1oz rattletraps, and bigger rapala rippin raps.
  13. hard to beat a suick or grandma for casting shallow. deep I find it hard to beat or anywhere inbetween I find it hard to beat a big 1.5oz jig (jmac I think with an 8 hook?) with a salt shaker or similar bigger swimbait rigged horizontal.
  14. Is quantum owned by zebco? I actually wanted to look at a zebco BC just to say I own one but pretty sure an accurist is quantum....and I really don't ever plan on owning another quantum. anyhow, interesting find deep...I think?
  15. DD22>NXS>5xd Norman all the way here but I skip over the nxs as it is half an inch shorter, same weight, and only has about a 2ft difference in depth that it will go so I keep it simple with just the dd22.
  16. is there a striper sized version of spinbaits out there? May want to try one out when the fish move back deep.
  17. 10'' powerworm year round day and night. usually on a 3/16 or 1/4 tungsten.
  18. Chasing schooling wipers on a long shallow point I hooked a flathead in the 70#-ish weight class with #12 line and a jigging spoon. Could not get it to deeper water and after about 45 min-1hr and a couple videos' by my buddy the line broke. Saw it when it came up about half a dozen times and briefly got on camera. We catch them every year in the class range doing this, but this one may have even been bigger (or may have just got away...). It was just about dark and pouring down rain all the way back to the ramp to kick me while I was down. Got home and then had to clean fish in the rain with electric knife, did not need to drag the hose out at least! Just needed a quick picture with it for braggin rights. not a bass, but we were fishing for a fish with "bass" in the name!
  19. I would think #1 would be a bit large...but possibly that is what I have actually been putting on mine. I guess time to check it out as I have not replaced any on them this year yet.
  20. I think I replace mine with #2 short shank on similar sized spoons.
  21. I used it this spring to throw 2.5's and it worked out great with those. I don't think it would have much of an issue loading up on a smaller bait but don't really know the weight differences between a 1.5 and 2.5. It also does throw mid range cranks like a bomber fat free shad just fine as well. I have had it for a couple years now but to be honest, a DD22 is on it 80% of the time quite frankly. I do throw 3/8th lipless on there, but of course that is in its range but feels like you could go a bit lighter than that as well.
  22. I am late to this but own GL2 785C rated 3/8-1oz 10-20 lb I use it to throw DD22's as well as heavy lipless baits. Great rod and without all the bulk of a glass rod.
  23. Rod socks on them in your storage compartment? Taking them in and out possibly? usually mine are bent from stepping on them sitting on the deck of the boat...but not 3-4 like you said.
  24. yeah have not been able to fish this much either. Weather, funerals, work, etc. all seem to have got in the way this year.
  25. weather has sucked...
