  1. Been a couple weeks for me- but heard crappie are prespawn and water is 70 at 48 bridge. Bite has got to be hot on Wednesday after this warming trend- then I think a cold front coming though Thursday. I may be wrong though, as that is what the weatherman said! Going out Friday and most likely Saturday so let me know how it goes.
  2. Take your time- no need rush back. hate emoticons, but seemed appropriate.
  3. not really arguing too much of any points in particular as I am not a physics guru however, a lever provides multiplication of force not multiplication of energy-force multiplied through equilibrium of torque. Torque of course being force applied x's perpendicular distance from the axis of rotation to the line of action of the force...or something like that (had to look it up)? Force then more efficiently produces torque if force is exerted perpendicular to the rod. So does a rod held at waist level perpendicular to the water exert a better hook set than a rod with the tip held higher not perpendicular? Anyhow- not sure I have ever needed more torque or force to turn a bass- only time I have ever needed it is when fishing for stripers on bass gear or the occasional 30# plus flat head when bass fishing. I know the salt guys need it as well, but bass...meh...
  4. Now I am going to need a fulcrum on the boat and a couple pulleys to get the mechanical advantage of four. In doing this I will need to move my rod out so I need an 18 foot rod and with the 4 pulley system I will also need new gearing on the reel as I will need to take in 4 times the amount of line so just would need a reel to take in around 112 inches per turn to account for the Conservation of Energy in physics. When all said and done those pesky 4 pounder will now feel like 1 pounders. Anyhow, I like the topic, just really don't have any input here when all said and done. I do find fishing lines carry the most interesting things in regard to physics personally.
  5. in. hopefully I will remember to submit a fish this year!
  6. lived down there for a while and wished I still did... headed down there tomorrow actually for a couple days. Fished a lot down there- worked at crab orchard refuge for a while as well so spent a lot of time on those area lakes as well as Kincaid.
  7. starfruit. underrated and overpriced. but still...starfruit.
  8. it works well enough anyhow- 5 years I have owned it I cant complain too much. I don't think trackers are great boats by any means, but it runs 45mph and I use it on waters as big as 55k acres with no issues. Although, on those waters I sometimes wished it ran 60....
  9. Put the new wheels on it- they look pretty good to me. Aluminum boat, chrome wheels...lol replaced a couple bunks, changed lower unit fluid, etc. so did not make it out this weekend but should have most pressing boat work done. Now I will just need to fix things as they break of course though!
  10. they will fit...but a good bump and those wells are hitting the hubs and will destroy my bearings. sending them back...
  11. I may fish this weekend and will let you know. Got a new prop I need to put on and test out. Also got a set of new chrome rims for the trailer- ordered 175's and they sent 185's. Quick measurments is telling me they wont fit however I need to look into it more or may just send them back- not sure at this point.
  12. Fished Clinton on Sunday the 15th. Wind out of the SSW blowing strong. 15-25 and pretty constant. Fished deep, shallow, and inbetween and was a tough day. Water temps at 48 bridge around 58, marina around 53. With the wind in that direction the current is not really able to flow and is always the worst days on this lake in the winter/early spring. A good north wind usually helps (not too much of course!). Looks like there is again, a large overabundance of shad and while some of those should be taken care of naturally, still makes it tough with so many bait balls spread out literally everywhere. Hard to tell crappie from shad, etc. Anyhow, lake was a bit low and was somewhat clear even with all the wind whipping it. Swimbaits, jigs, jerkbaits, rattle traps are all I threw. only small fish off jerkbaits. Only room for the year to improve from here...
  13. It has been a few years, but yes I did use to fish it. Let me know what you know about it or need to know and I can try to elaborate.
  14. with work and family things going on I really have only been fishing a couple times this fall...feels like that is how my entire year went. Ended up at Evergreen for 3 hours on Saturday and absolutely torched them- maybe it is because my expectations were low, and everyone coming in as I went out were talking about how miserable the fishing was. Here is the big one of the day- all fish caught on deeper isolated timber in 8-10fow and one off a laydown in the same. All on southern sitting banks with the wind blowing hard into them. Had to use two wind socks all day to fish proper with the wind blowing me into cover-I would kill the trolling motor about 20 feet away and started flipping as many times as I could and hit bottom and right back up. All fish on 3/4 pbj jig and skinny dipper trailer in bluegill I believe... Hope your guys fishing year has been better than mine.
  15. pics or it didn't happen
  16. breast feeding champion and wears a pinky ring. Did she remind you to put your baby borjn back on before you were escorted out and she drove home?
  17. No...that was more than babble...that was actually just what I was looking for and what my opinion is as well. I don't fish a circuit but do fish tourneys from time to time and they are fun- but for money or a bigger contest at the end of the day. I would fish more here in IL, but honestly many of our lakes are fairly boring and uncomplicated and I am much more a multi-species angler and get bored easily some days with just bass. I also highly agree- IL waterways overfished undermanaged. On one hand I guess it is good they are used but what tangible benefit are the tournaments providing in return? I am sure some would like to provide economic sustenance by use of local commodities however that money IMO is not being used by the state to provide any longevity back into the waters. Really more of a rant/babble on my part on all of this and while I should not direct this at tournaments directly I guess I did. Correlation is not causation, but there does seem to be quite a bit of correlation as the tx scene seems to have gotten larger down here with no kickbacks for the water ways. I also agree with jross on Clinton and the water temps- 95 degrees with almost 90 degree water does not brighten the future of bass populations in a 5k acre lake. I personally see the population waning from my own personal experience. Maybe this stems from a disappointing year so far. Camping/fishing season starts pretty soon for me and I am going to have some time away from work a bit, so maybe my attitude will change.
  18. The tournaments are getting a bit ridiculous down here- Sunday out at Clinton had more folks beating the bank than I have ever seen out there in my life and looking at the tourney results it did not look like a great time to boot. For you IL tx'ers...at what point does the size of the tourney and prize money override the competitions ability to actually bring 5 fish in. The fishing got bad when 50 boats are sitting on top of the fish pitching to laydowns in 2 FOW. ended up stopping fishing for bass and went to walleye as there was boats just everywhere. Thank god I had not put in any entry fee as I would have got board and left and I actually did catch a few that would have been in the well. Anyhow, some lakes can handle it and it never bothered me- but here in IL it just seems are lakes are too small to handle the increasing numbers of tx's and folks participating.
  19. this topic causes me to juxtapose my beliefs on color. Color does not matter at all to me as long as its one of the three colors I would need: shad-ish, bream-ish, or red-ish.
  20. good to see IL is still fishing. not sure that I have more than a handful of times so far this summer. Looking to ending august on a bang though.
  21. Big article on this in the most recent in fisherman mag...
  22. NOAA weather free.only radar I actually trust now.
  23. NOAA Surprised no one else uses this one...
  24. I am so confused by this. So is it okay to shoot and drink brandy and toss my cigs on the ground so long as your dogs are not there?
