  1. Horrible battery life is the dirty little secret of the iPhone world right now. Should be even worse with the bigger processor in the 5s since the battery is the same, or very close to it: http://blogs.which.co.uk/technology/phones-3/best-phone-battery-life-samsung-galaxy-note-2-s4/ And to make matters worse, the i5 is also the slowest of the high end phones. You'd think with bad battery life, at least you'd get a fast phone: http://blogs.which.co.uk/technology/apple/samsung-galaxy-s4-iphone-5-uk-fastest-phone/
  2. You'd think so. But the MB 110's have a rep for being pretty fragile. Lips breaking off of them is VERY common. Tails breaking off is reported too, and I've had that happen to one of mine. I have a lot more MB 110's than I like to admit, but have pretty much stopped fishing them since the SK STX came out. For me, in the Ozarks, they just work better. The fact they are 1/3 or less the cost is just icing on the cake. I also own a lot of LC jerkbaits, and they are great also. The SP78 in regular and DD catch me a lot of fish. Spro McStick is another winner in this area. But I rarely tie one on in warmer weather. The little I have done it yielded no results, but I think about it every now and then. Very realistic lures, so you'd think they'd work any time of the year.
  3. My 2 Calais DC's are my distance kings. Have had them on a variety of rods but mostly GLX and NRX 3 power rods. It can be tough to get a good hook set at the extreme distances, though. Still, it has caught me a few fish over the years to be able to cast that far.
  4. They work good here in the Ozarks when the fish are more aggressive. I fish them mostly on a C-rig, but T-rigging them works well also.
  5. +1. Good knot that is easy to tie.
  6. Their description is wrong also. They say it has MG sideplates, but it does not. The 50/51 have carbon fiber sideplates. The bigger Core's have the MG sideplates. They weigh slightly more too, of course. At any rate, great prices on these reels. I really like the pair I own, but just don't need anymore of them.
  7. Why do you want them? I have them on my Pixy Type r because it came with them. But they're nothing special, in my experience.
  8. AFAIK, there has never been an update to the Calais DC. If there were, they were pretty minor.
  9. I've never had an issue with my Calcutta DC. I don't fish it as much as my Calais DC's, but it's been solid as a rock and trouble free.
  10. Don't be so sure. My pair have caught me fish I would not have caught otherwise because I could cast a particular plug further than any other rod on the deck, like to schooling fish WAY out there, etc. And you still get great distance out of the lure, too. Pure magic.
  11. I have several. Stella/NRX; Calais DC/NRX; Calais DC/Kistler Z-bone; Steez/NRX (x2). Are they all that much better than other combos I have at 1/2 the value? Some yes, some no. The 2 DC's are awesome, but large and heavy for this price range. The Steez's, not much of a fan. The Stella is super smooth, but not really worth the price tag, IMO, compared to other spinning reels I have. The rods are all worth the coin to me because I fish a lot of bottom contact baits and they are all super sensitive, resulting in more fish in the boat.
  12. Zoom Ultravibe Craws would be at the top of my list in those conditions.
  13. I fish in Wisc during the summer and am constantly around loons. Never had one chase any baits. I've seen them swim right under to boat a bunch of times, though.
  14. The OP did not have a price criteria stated though. I'd agree on the Calais 200DC. I have a pair of them. I also have steezs, cores, Premiers, MGX, Pixy type-r, calcutta DC and TE-GT, etc. Most all of them with orange seals. The Calais DC's are stock and can consistently make the longest casts without drama. Next would be the Steezs, but they are fussy. MUCH more prone to unprovoked backlashes.
  15. I've had mine for well over a year now. I fish mostly Beaver and Table Rock and I'm not a believer. Tried it all different conditions on all different settings and can only give it one time where it might have helped. But I can give it several times when it seemed to kill the bite off. I still turn it on every now and then, but pretty rare these days. Customer service is great, though.
  16. I was north of Tomahawk, near Nokomis. Left yesterday, and am now meandering my way back home to Arkansas.
  17. Check out the Ozark Angles Forum for more info on Beaver. Like mentioned, it's often a tough lake to catch fish on. It gets a LOT of tournament pressure and the fish are notoriously fickle. But there are a lot of bass to catch if you can figure them out.
  18. I sure feel for you guys that live up here year round. I know you had a very long winter and now it's looking like a very short summer, too. I'm about at the end of my 2 months stay here in North Central Wisc, and there were sure not a lot of nice days this summer, weather-wise. It was suppose to be dry this morning so thought I'd get some fishing in, but it's been raining steady since at least 4am. I lived in MN for 35 years before moving south, so I know what it's like. But this year seems to be a really cool and wet one. Bass fishing has been good to very good most of the summer, though. Still, looking forward to getting back on some southern impoundments, or flowages as y'all call 'em.
  19. Another happy customer. I've only had to deal with AG/Pure Fishing 2 or 3 times over the years, but it's always been amazing.
  20. Good ones above. Boat Browser instead of the built in (supports Flash) TuneIn radio app Flashlight zaphrox (lights the flash on the camera up on constant for a bright flashlight, I use this one a LOT) Patience Revisited (lots of free card games) ES File Explorer Shazam (for identifying song title/artist very quickly) GPS Speedometer Juice Defender (extends battery life between charges) Also check out the various "launchers". These are programs that overlay your home screens. So instead of being stuck with the 4x4 icons on the home pages, you can choose 4x5, 5x5, etc. And add addtional icons to the bar at the bottom, tell it to let your home pages rotate with the screen orientation, etc. I use Go Launcher and Nova. Not much difference between them in the end but I prefer Nova for whatever reason.
  21. Great choice! I have one NRX893 and two NRX853's. I really don't find that much difference in the way they fish or feel, but if I were in the market for a new one today, it'd be another 893.
  22. Looks like it is at least an interesting reel in that price range. But given the problems Daiwa had with some of their t-wing reels and the unkowns about if the new system will be reliable, I'd be surprised if it was a huge seller. I think many folks that read the forums much will be waiting on the sidelines to see how the user level reviews come in over time.
  23. Just re-read this thread and realized it was over a year old. I had commented back last year about putting the orange seals in my MGX to try and bring it around. Just to update, they did not really do much for the reel. So I'd assume the stock bearings are very similar quality. I eventually grew tired of the fussy nature of the MGX after trying it on different rods and with different lines. It's now just a spare reel for me, and I've purchased another Core 50 instead. The Core is just a hard reel to beat in this category, IMO.
  24. Good question. Sometimes there is not a lot of difference between a $150 reel and a $400 one. An example would be the Curado 50E vs a Core 50. But there is usually a pretty noticeable jump in quality, drag, castability and smoothness from the $50 level to the $150-$200 level. Really depends a lot on the reels you're comparing, though. I own a bunch of the USDM high end baitcasters. Some are worth the money, some are not in my experience. But even then, some would totally disagree with me as the "personal fit" thing enters into it as well. Some place a LOT of emphasis on looks, what a particular rod/reel combo looks like. Even to the point of having reels painted. I personally have zero interest in that arm of tackle buying. But whatever floats your boat. Point is, you need to figure out what is important to YOU and research as much as you can.
  25. I only fished mine for about 3-4 months after buying it, upgrading the bearings to orange seals about a month in. The reel just never fit real well for me, so it sits below decks as an emergency backup now. And I've used it a couple of times in the year or more it's been in the backup role. Worked fine the last time I was forced to use it, FWIW.
