  1. Yeah, I hear you. I mean, I do believe the paint story and all. But why confuse folks? If you're going to do this, there should be a big press release, info on their website, etc. Heck of a way to do business.
  2. Yeah, how dumb is that? Introduce the new color and offer zero explanation about what exactly the difference is between them and the existing NRX. I sure hope it's only color. Prices are not listed on their website yet, either.
  3. Same here. Put a Pro Blue STX on the water today. I left it all stock just to see how it would suspend out of the box. I nomally change out all the hooks on my jerk baits. I didn't used to do that on the 110's since they come with fancy hooks, but they are super fragile, so they get them now too. Anyway, the STX suspended very well stock. Better than any 110 I've ever owned. I was more than a bit surprised by that one. I figured it, like EVERY jerkbait I've ever owned, would need some weighting to make it neutrally boyant. It did very, very slowly rise but not enough to have to adjust for. The action seemed very similar to my 110's. The jerk bait bite has not turned on yet here, but I think these will be just as good a weapon as the 110's. Maybe better as I won't be as afraid to use these in thicker timber.
  4. I also have both reels, both with Orange Seal bearings installed. On the water, I can't tell any difference in overall performance. Both are smooth, quiet reels that work well. The 1.5oz is the biggest difference I notice between them, and it's not that big a deal as the 50E is still a very light reel.
  5. We live in Ark and are in Louisiana for Thanksgiving. My sister is a huge LSU fan and we'll be watching the game over at her house. Should be fun! I'm not a born and raised Arkie, though, and don't really care who wins the game. But honestly, I expect LSU to avenge last years loss to the Hogs.
  6. Just ordered a few of the LS STX as well as some more Vision 110's in various colors. This is getting to be jerk bait season here on Beaver Lake and the 110's has quite a following here. So time will tell how they work. I had issues with several of my 110's last year, like backend of the lure breaking off, bills breaking off, etc. So they are far from perfect, in my experience.
  7. Sometimes none, sometimes 75% or more. Just depends on the time of year, what they're eating, where I'm fishing. I like to fish soft plastic baits, but I won't force it if that's not what they're biting on. Here in the Ozarks Mts, it's all about hard jerkbaits in the winter, for example.
  8. I'm "into" knives. Have a few custom made, high end hunting knives. So I don't buy junk. But there is a great, low priced filet knife out there made by CRKT. It's the bigger one on this page. Holds an edge a long time and has proven very durable. CRKT makes some very nice knives. I have a few of the Rapala's, but they just don't work as well for me.
  9. I agree, except it's more like 1/4 of the price, in this case. I've never yet had any of my many Vision 110's suspend correctly anyway. That changes almost daily with water temps and water density. And since you're not banging jerkbaits off the bottom very often, or at least I don't, they should last. I'll be trying a few at those prices. Thanks for letting us know about them.
  10. Wow. Having lived in MN for 35 years before moving south, I fully expected the Vikes to get their butts handed to them in this game. But 45-7 is beyond embarrassing. Ouch.
  11. And it's not $50 anymore. It's $100.
  12. I hear you. Quality of education on almost all levels is suffering badly. I retired last year at 52 from programming. Decided to take a programming class for fun at the local community college as I really enjoy the field. Instructor was a complete disaster. Knew his subject, but would just not show up for our once a week, 3 hour class. And no announcement on the class forum. After that happened 3 or so times, some of the students were ripping him a bit on the class forum. So he walks into class the next week and tells the 4 of us that are left from the original 20 to "get the F out of my class". I kid you not. Said it twice. He got in trouble for it, but kept his job. When I went to college, something like that was just unimaginable. An instructor like you have that won't teach the subject would be very annoying. Like you said, why bother paying the money if the guy doesn't teach?

    Alabama Rig?

The striper guys here on Beaver Lake use those umbrella rigs a lot. I've found a few over the years, when the water level was dropping, snagged in tree tops. I guess I should throw one in the boat and see if they work. Lots of schooling spotted bass on this lake.
  14. Since I moved from MN to Ark 6 years ago, my fishing season has become year round. And some of the best fishing of the year happens in Jan and Feb when the big fish that suspend deep out in the mid-lake areas come up relatively shallow. Last winter was the first winter that I saw any ice to speak of on Beaver Lake, and it was bad enough to stop me from fishing for a couple of weeks. We have a power plant lake an hour away, though, so not all was lost.
  15. Yeah, if it were between those two at the same price, I'd get the 803. Something magical about that rod, no doubt. But $200 for that BCR853 GLX is one hell of a deal and I'm sure it would be very close to the 803 in performance.
  16. Wow. Me, too. If you pass it up, let me know where it is so I can buy it!
  17. The reason I bought my BCR852 GLX was the same, found a smoking deal on it. I own several other BCR GLX's in 3 and 4 power so figured this one would be as great as the others. Nope. Never really liked that rod much. Too whippy for my likes in a 2 power rod and I did not think the sensitivity was as good as most GLX's I've owned. I would certainly not recommend it for big worms, or big anything. At that price, you might be able to flip for a profit, though. That's the only reason I'd buy it, personally.
  18. Agreed. It really depends on the body of water, time of year and weather. I for sure have not had better luck fishing during the day after a full moon most of the year. Usually it's worse.
  19. It's true that the apple smart phones are the biggest selling phones. But that's not my point. It's like Windows vs iOS. iOS is still there and making Apple a lot of money, but Windows is clearly the dominant OS in the market. It's a little different this time in that Apple had the top spot for a while. Sure, why wouldn't they do that? Even if only 1 out of 3 or 1 out of 4 walk away to get an iPhone, that's still a lost sale. Good business decision. I've not noticed either of those being battery hogs. The only folks I hear complaining about stuff like that are people that don't have them. :-) I disagree. They come out with a cutting edge, innovative product and then get left behind because they're slow to keep up. They are, or were, the innovation kings. And we all benefit from that. But they don't move fast enough on existing products to keep from being outclassed pretty quickly. I have nothing against Apple. But they do things their own way, and sometimes that puts them behind.
  20. There's a reason Android sales have surpassed iPhone. Apple was the innovator there, but now they're playing catchup. Do some research. The stuff that they did to the iPhone this release still doesn't bring it up to the level of my almost year old Evo. No 4g? No Flash support? Disappointing.
  21. I hope not! I sure plan to fish my NRX's all winter. Never fished one of those in the winter, but I sure expect them to stand up well to it.
  22. Not in my experience. If the reel is over oiled/greased, it can be an issue. And rod eyelets will freeze closed with water when fishing in below freezing temps. But should be no issues otherwise.
  23. I sure don't find any trade off's cleaning and oiling bearings in my reels. IMO, it's a shame to leave the increase in reel performance laying on the table, especially when this is free to anyone with a little mechanical ability. To each their own, I guess.
  24. Right click on the file in Explorer and choose properties. Make sure the "read-only" box is unchecked in the General tab.
