  1. That happened to one of mine. It just popped off. Three tiny drops of super glue did the trick. It's been fine since. For a NIB Fuego, $150 is a nice find. They sold for $250 when in production.
  2. I have one but I haven't spent enough time with it to have an informed opinion. I like it a lot so far, and would buy more, and probably will. I will say that this is the last reel in my collection I'd load up with #20 flouro, lock down the drag and take out dumpster diving.
  3. Really? Everyone else who mattered? Really? It's rather difficult for me to believe a fellow fisherman could actually post such drivel.
  4. Which bersion of Trilene did you use? If not XL, go get some XL.
  5. When I talk to myself, I'm talking to the smartest guy around.
  6. iabass8, two of my Zillions are used for moving baits; one for deep cranks, and one for frogs/buzzbaits. The other two get used for plastics and jigs; 3/8oz and up. They pitch very well with 3/8oz and heavier weights. Again, I can't compare the Zillion spool to the 1016. But, I will say this; I've never felt the need to upgrade the spool in any of the Zillions. They are great casters as is.
  7. I don't have an R, but I have four other Zillions; a JDM version, a Cabelas 50th, and two USDM versions, all 6.3:1. The two USDM have Lew's carbon fiber 4BB Handles. The others already had 4BB handles. It is virtually impossible to tell the diference between them while fishing. Ditto for the R. I fished with one for a couple of hours, and did not see a performance advantage over any of mine, and I fished it side by side with two of mine. Now is a good time to find a bargain on a Zillion. Get a standard version and put a $50 Lew's 4BB handle on it, and you'll have a reel equal to the R or the 50th. Of course, if you can find an R for less than a standard Zillion plus 50 bucks, I'd go for that, just to have different looking version. I don't have a comment on the 1016 spool, not having used one. I'm guessing you're interested in how well the Zillion series handles lighter weight baits, and I can't comment on that either. I have mine all mounted on MH or H rods, and don't throw light baits with any of them. But then I don't need them to. I have five Alphas, two TD-Zs and an SS SV. I have the finesse end of the spectrum covered. My Zillions all see heavier duty.
  8. another one bites the dust
  9. Scott F has the right idea. Get yourself some Frog Togs until you stop growing. Then invest in a quality set of rain gear, or two.
  10. Out of my 16 current casting rod lineup, 10 are medium or med-light. I only have two heavy power rods. One of those hasn't been out of the house in at least three years, and the other sees very limited use. For me, heavy rods and line take away most of the challenge, and all of the fun in fishing.
  11. I don't care about what's behind the reel seat. Cork, EVA, Hypalon, foam, etc; split or full length; it doesn't matter. The foregrip is a different proposition. I prefer a no foregrip design, as long as the reel seat threads are not exposed when the reel is in place. I have several rods which "feature" 1/2 to 3/4" of exposed threads. I find this very annoying. Who makes a reel with a foot long enough to require threading that long on a reel seat? A hint to rod manufacturers; either install a foregrip, or trim those dad-blasted threads.
  12. Sorry Tony, but that plainly says; also alluiz eeenimeots to compare 2 or mire ujeais b/c the bame (onflaheg has been rem ived) see whait cindustny is griurnc/clecieasung shuulo thie growth What could be clearer than that?
  13. You think you caught a politician? That's like saying you think you caught a case of the clap.
  14. Some Daiwa reels have a very small insert, which fits into the hole in the frame, with the correct size hole for the spring. I can't remember if the TD-Z has that insert, but I think it does. If that is the case, and the insert is missing, the spring will not remain in place.
  15. As Raul correctly stated, the risk to us in the USA is significanly less than in other less fortunate parts of the world. But, our media has a long standing policy best stated by the expression "if it bleeds, it leads". I pay almost no attention to mass market media. I have completely lost my taste for manufactured hysteria.
  16. I service my reels. That takes a while. I also service reels for a double handful of local guys. Clean up and/or repair my rods, buy more stuff, sort and organize my tackle, buy more stuff, do some reel upgrading/tuning, buy more stuff, spend more time on the forums, buy more stuff, etc. Winter gets to be an expensive proposition. Now that I have a dedicated space for it, I'll be doing a lot more rod building. I have blanks and components for five builds waiting right now. I think this winter will be an even more expensive proposition.
  17. You really should do just that. It's always a good time.
  18. OK deak, you're now officially on my list of people with whom I'd like to have a beer and a conversation. Chick Correa is my all time favorite piano player. Once upon a time, I knew and could play every Return to Forever piece ever released. On piano and bass. But that was a long time ago.
  19. Dang, John; I knew there was some reason I liked you. Never quite expected to see Miles, "trane, Copeland and Ried in the same post, on a fishing forum. Is this place cool, or what?
  20. I once had a bass spit out what looked like a tums or rolaids tablet. Needless to say, I did not taste test it to find out just exactly what it was.
  21. I'm gonna miss him. He was a big help to me, always making time to answer my questions. We banged heads a few times; agreeing to disagree about some things, but I never truly lost my respect for the man. Every time I read one of his "crusty old man" posts, I thought of my grandmother, and one of her sayings, getting a good chuckle. There's an old expression; "he calls a spade a spade". means "he tells it like it is". My grandmother's version was, "I like him, he doesn't call a spade a spade, he calls it a &%#$ing shovel". That was David Green. RIP, amigo.
  22. I frequently use the same last words. And yes, that's a planet. In the parallel dimension of my choice, women are not crazy, I am.
