  1. Got a tip from my son about lithium titanate batteries. Very impressive specs. Available now, but very expensive.
  2. The majority of rods I build use Fuji Alconites. A size 4 will pass a 15 lb braid to 8 lb fluoro connection if the knot is well tied. 30 lb braid to 12 lb fluoro, use a 4.5. For 25 lb mono or fluoro, I would go with a size 5. All of that depends on good compact knots.
  3. An interesting read on battery research. https://www.pocket-lint.com/gadgets/news/130380-future-batteries-coming-soon-charge-in-seconds-last-months-and-power-over-the-air
  4. I have spent nothing on haircuts for about two years
  5. Thanks Mick. You have proved your point. Using your definition of power as that measured by the CCS system. It will be a bit more expensive to prove mine. Take two identical blanks. Lift an increasing amount of weight until the blank breaks. Trim six inches off the other blank and repeat the test. The trimmed blank will not lift any more weight. It can’t. Here’s the thing. CCS does not give you an absolute value for power. It gives you a number you can only use for comparative purchases. I do not care what Tom Kirkman insists: those are NOT objective numbers. They mean nothing. They are subjective, and are only used for purposes of comparison.
  6. Mick, I have never disagreed with you. Until now. Think in terms of lifting power. How much weight can you lift with a blank before it breaks? How can it lift any more weight with the tip cut off? cutting off the tip increases the lower end of the lure weight range. It makes the blank a lot more stiff, but not more powerful. And probably ruins the blank.
  7. If it’s BBQ, it’s low and slow. prime cuts of beef are hot and fast. Kent knows of what he speaks. I have eaten his ribs, in his backyard, and they are top shelf.
  8. Lil Fretless Bass
  9. See, even they can’t make any sense of their own ratings system.. come to think of it, system is the wrong word. System implies some kind of order or logic.
  10. Never seen a gator in a kilt. Where would he wear his sporran?
  11. Veggies, as long as they are green. Happy bass live in grass.
  12. Amtak Bushido blanks are at, or near, the top of my best bang for the buck list.
  13. If there is no hook keeper, no thread, and no decal in that area, you do not need epoxy. Epoxy adds no strength to the blank. It’s there to protect what’s under it.
  14. Trimming the tip will not turn a medium into a med-heavy. It will also slow the action. Don’t get stiffness confused with speed.
  15. One of my all-time fav baits is a baby bass color Super Fluke.
  16. My cardiologist insisted. I do not understand either.
  17. I had it, about this time last year. The worst of it was over after four days, but a relentless dry cough lasted a long time. Got the first plague shot Wednesday and have been sicker than a dog since.
  18. Read the article in RM magazine. My takeaway? So what? Much ado about nothing.
  19. I have never flipped. Pitch a lot. Never been in a boat with someone flipping. Never actually seen anybody flip, except on TV. Have seen a lot of guys pitching and calling it flipping.
  20. Mike, I have the original version. The cheapest one. Have a bunch of knives. The Worksharp is is great at what it was designed to do. Sharpen blades. I put an 80 grit belt on it and tried rough shaping a newly glued up grip on the lathe. Only did that once. Really easy to go way too far, way too quick. If you like a smooth as a baby’s butt cork grip, a 1200 grit belt on the Worksharp, with grip turning on the lathe, will do it up just fine.
  21. I like making grips and handles. Cutting up, glueing up, and turning to s perfect fit floats my boat. I only use burl cork. Don't like the looks of natural cork, and do not work with eva. I use a Worksharp tool for guide foot prep, and can do an entire rod’s worth of guides in a few minutes. I like thread work when accenting or decorating the butt end of the rod. I’m ok with epoxy do not like wrapping guides.
  22. The only water I have here is cold chocolate milk. Haven't been out yet.
  23. Check the state park. Nice cabins. I think they rent boats.
  24. I’ve had days I could screw up an anvil.
