  1. Unintended, but that's the best way to have a mook moment... I guess every so often the mook in me comes out (oooo, that didn't sound quite right...)
  2. I saw that article in the paper, made me laugh... Seriously, though, that's the kind of thing that will give little kids nightmares for years because they understand what they're looking at and some have problems separating reality from movies. From what the article said, though, I think some of the parents got a little TOO angry about it. People make mistakes, even projector workers in a theater...
  3. When it comes right down to it, I like just about any music as long as its done well and with passion. Heck, I even listen to George M. Cohan now and again (Ok, so I just watched Yankee Doodle Dandy, but I was listening while I was watching...)
  4. Yeah, I knew the O's would be tough, but I also thought Moose would handle them better than he did. Right now, all I have to say is that the Yanks look like ca-rap. Jeter has 2 errors, the pitching staff is a mess (apart from Rivera), and Jonny Damon is hurt. Ugh, at least the Sox aren't doing well to start the season either...
  5. EDBASSMASTER: I agree with you 100% about Prince. He's not only an amazing showman (Did you see him soaking wet at the SuperBowl?), but he's also a very talented musician and songwriter. No laughing here (unless its on one of your vids...) My list: Beatles, Stones, Pink Floyd, Rush, Led Zeppelin, The Who, Allmans, Dead, Phish, SRV, Muddy (Waters, not the mook ), Nat King Cole, Dylan, CCR, Bob Marley, Thelonius Monk, Beach Boys, Van Halen, James Taylor, Joni Mitchel, Sarah Vaughn, Miles Davis Nonette, CSN(Y), Phish, Blues Traveller, OMD, DMB, REM, Police, Robert Johnson, String Cheese Incident, God Street Wine, Jimmy Buffet, The Band, Little Feat, ToP, Taj Mahal, Sly and the Family, Parliament/Funkadelic, Artie Shaw, Glenn Miller, Count Basie, Benny Goodman, Herb Alpert, Buddy Guy, B.B. King, Cream, Traffic, Blind Faith, The Ramones, The Clash, Dead Kennedys, Black Flag, The Cure, Depeche Mode, DuranDuran, James Brown, Aretha, The Commitments, Etta James, Woody Guthrie, Arlo Guthrie, Riders of the Purple Sage, Howlin' Wolf, Dave Brubeck, Kiss, Metallica, Judas Priest, Zebra, Black Sabbath, Sugarloaf, Foghat, ELO, Earth, Wind and Fire, K.C. and the Sunshine Band, Chaka Khan, and about a million more...
  6. I spent 5 years working on commercial draggers from Shinnecock Inlet on Long Island and I will tell you straight, those guys are as hard core as it gets. I've been through 30 foot seas. The wall of water yoiu're looking at is about the scariest thing in the world. In a nutshell, there's no where to go. You are at the full mercy of the sea. You will not beat her, you won't tame her, you won't even get a chance to say goodbye if she doesn't want you to. These guys, however, make what I did look like using a cane pole for sunnies. The camera doesn't come close to showing you what's actually happening. Remember, when the boat rolls in a sea, the camera rolls with it, so you can't really see how much she's pitching. I can't even imagine what a 50 ft wave looks like. Not to mention the ice. I have seen a boat roll from being iced up too much. It is not a pretty sight. Boats don't look good upside down. In order to avoid this, someone has to go up top and clear the ice. Ever tried walking around in heavy boots and foul weather gear? Pretty clumsy and slow. Now think of wearing that as you climb the mast. While its covered in ice. In 30 ft. seas. At night. Then, when you've finished, you've got to go do it again. That's not adventure, that's insane. This turned out to be a little bit longer than I intended, but I would NEVER get back on a commercial fishing boat again unless I had no other means of supporting myself and family. And for anyone who thinks they want to get into the business, I'll give you the same advice my father gave me before my first trip: "There's not a single thing on that boat that won't kill you."
  7. Word. I was golfing yesterday and today its cold being outside wearing longjohns. Spring can "spring" any day now...
  8. OUCH! Hopefully you didn't have any rough seas...
  9. Well, you have to finish unpacking some time Who knows, maybe in a year or so you'll be going through some boxes and find your treasure...kinda like finding $50 in an old pair of pants...but better...
  10. May the spirits keep you safe over there while you keep us safe over here.
  11. As always, George is a great source for information, even boyond the tangible realm of fishing. Its a sad state of affairs that we have to be on top of things like this, but with a watchdog like George Welcome the job is a little bit easier.
  12. Oh, how easily they forget...Anyone remember the fact that snow didn't even start falling in the north east until the middle of January? With the exception of the great lakes area, it was a pretty mild winter up here. Now, I'm not saying that I'm a big fan of wet, slushy, pull the trees down snow, but I also didn't get to ski as often as I wanted to at the "start" of the season. Take the good with bad if you decide to live up here is all I can say. (BTW, that was just me playing devil's advocate...this weather sucks )
  13. Yep, this is going to be a great season for all baseball fans, but especially for us Yankee fans! I was all excited to stay home yesterday and watch the game, but rain prevailed. I hate rain outs, but even more so when it happens on the 2nd game of the year. I guess I'll just have to watch tonights game and hope there's no more rain in the forecast this weekend.
  14. I'd be proud the be a Long Island rep for Mookdom. Fuhgedaboutit.
  15. Lately I haven't seen too much on ESPN2 apart from some tourneys and a lot of salt water fishing, but VS (which i think used to be outdoor life ?) has TONS of bass fishing shows (pretty much all day). I don't get the outdoor channel, but I think there's a whole lot on there too.
  16. The senko idea is pretty good one (Isn't is always?), but if the fish are only 10 feet from you, you may want to practice your flippin' and pitchin'. Not only does this help you be a more acurate fisherman, but when you get the technique right, splash is minimal. Also, try skipping a small power worm at an angle to the fish, let it sit a bit, and twitch the bait back. When you get the right cadence, just like a popper, you'll get that eratic motion that the bass love so much. At least that's what KVD said on Bass Pros the other day 8-)
  17. Sounds more to me like they're hitting the plastic, but not the hook. There's 2 things you can do when they hit short like that: 1) Trim the skirt down a half inch or so (or less if its a smaller rig). Personally, I don't like to do this, but lots of guys swear by it. 2) Use a trailer hook. This is just basically attaching another hook to the front hook. Use a hook with a larger eye and slip it over the first so it hangs off the bend. (I'm sure there's a more detailed explanation of this in the instruction section of the site.) **Er, I just re-read your original post and I think I missunderstood your rig. If there's no skirt, then this procedure probably won't help...
  18. Yeah, don't take it personally, but you've asked a very broad question, so the best I can do is give some very broad answers. First, if I'm in a boat I'll take a different approach than if I'm shore casting. The weather certainly will make a difference a to where I start, more specifically, the wind plays into my attack plan. Many people on this site will say differently, but I am a fiwm believer in fishing the leeward side of a lake rather than the windward side. From there, I'm looking for points, lay downs, trees, bushes, anything that will provide cover for bass. After that, it depends on the time of year as to which bait I'll choose, but it will generally include a t-rigged worm or other soft plastic, or a lipless crank to get some ideas at to where the fish are. If after 10 minutes or so and I don't get a bite, I'll move on to another spot. Like I said, this is a very broad answer, but with more specifics I could give some better answers...
  19. At first I thought it was anime..but then, no, it was just a really lame video
  20. Very jealous! There was way too much fun to NOT go next year! I'm saving the $$ right now! Like the video says: "NO EXCUSES!"
  21. Congrats, dude! Looks like a nice healthy kid! Good to hear all is well, and may they continue to be.
  22. Oh, man, thanks for the chuckle...I haven't laughed like that since someone said, "How 'bout them Royals."
  23. The pond in my yard is nothing but leafy muck on the bottom, so much so that you wouldn't even think about wading in. This time of year, I too like to use a worm, either a ringed worm or a tube, but I t-rig it with a 1/8 bullet. This way, the tube looks more like a craw bouncing through the silt and seems to get the fish a little more active. If that doesn't work, I'll try a Mepps inline spinner just above the bottom if I can, but this is hard to do. I try not to let the spinner hit the bottom since the trebbles pick up a leaf or a pine needle almost as soon as it touches. Its a balancing act to get the right retrieve speed so that the bait hangs low in the water, but still moves fast enough to make the blade spin (I'm still working on perfecting this technique...)
  24. You know its gonna be a nail biter of a year when our greatest pitching hopes lie with "Mr. Durable" starting opening day. I just hope that somehow Pavano makes it to at least the all-star break before he comes apart at the seams...litterally. Opening night should be a VERY good game (Mets v. Cards), and may even be a pre-cursor to the NLCS. I'm picking the Mets to win this game, but I'm also picking the Cards to take the NLCS again, so we'll have to see what's gonna happen...
  25. Is that like craigslist.com? Just wondering if there's 2 sites like that...
