  1. Fukes are a great, very fun bait to fish, the above post is awesome, if you can find a point and keep your boat really close to the shore, cast beyond the point out to deeper water and SLOWLY walk the fluke toward the surface and keep the bait as close as you possibly can to the shore you should be able to haul in some really nice fish. Good luck and be safe !!!
  2. blakened alaskan salmon with sliced red potatoes / potato cakes and lightly fried asparagus. Desert, cherry filling served over a angel food cake bowl.
  3. No, scrapple uses the pig parts in the mixture but not like the souse where everything is used, Ponhoss uses just the flavoring from all of the parts or the brine, although there are some recipies that use parts of the hog in their ponhoss but I have seen very few.
  4. Yes 3 - 1lb cans, I use this for my dutch oven cooking too, you can use what you have left over as a crab dip to watch the football game or entertaining company, it's good on celery sticks too !!
  5. Stuffed mushroom caps with crab meat. get a favorite brand of mushroom, you can buy from a store that has like 15 to 20 small mushrooms in one container, remove the stems and wash the mushrooms, set aside on a paper towell to dry. In a mixing bowl, put in 3 cans of your favorite crab meat, me personally I like Maryland blue crab meat, but you can substitute for any thing you like even Lobster meat, drain out the access water and put into a good sized mixing bowl. Add 4 table spoons of your favorite mayo Add 1 table spoon of mustard Add 2 table spoons of Old Bay seasoning or to taste, some like more. Add 2 table spoons of lemon juice Finely chop one or two Scallions depending on how much you like onions and toss into the bowl Add Salt and pepper to taste then mix In a large skillet, bring 1/2 of a bar of your favorite butter to a sizzle, toss in the mushroom caps and stems and cook to a nice golden brown color and fill with mixture above or if you choose you may fill the caps before and cook the filled caps as well. One note while cooking the caps, you can add your favorite wine to the process as well, just be really careful and add the wine before the butter starts to melt, me personally a small amount of red wine goes a long way, but gives some really awesome flavor. The crab filling also makes a great crab dip as well.
  6. It's during the thawing process that they turn to mush, the flounder meat is very pourous and retains water, the meat itself will crystallise, before you freeze another fillet, press the fillet with a paper towl first, then if you don't have a vacuum sealing system, take the fillets to a friends house or the local butcher shop and vacuum seal the freezer bags.
  7. Scrapple is one of the best foods on the planet !!!! Souse is also a favorite of mine, and then you also have what we call ponhoss, that is really good as well !!! When we butcher pigs we make tons of each, the souse loaf and pickled pigs feet are AWESOME !!!!
  8. Swimming a grub through a pack of suspended fish is pretty good, it really depends on the weight you use and the size grub you have as well, if the fish are suspended in 20 feet of water you will need to count the bait down, if you are not familure with this, take the set up you wish to use and count the amount of time it takes to reach the bottom where you are fishing, if you are in 30 feet of water and the bait takes 30 seconds to reach the bottom then it is one foot per second, since the fish are in 20 feet you would cast past the suspended fish, count to 20 and start reeling the bait toward the area the fish are suspended at a slow or medium pace, depending on the gearing in your reel, lifting and lowering your rod tip as you go will cover a little more depth and will increase your chances of having a strike. A drop shot will allow a more vertical presentation for sure, even though it does not always have to be, it's one of the best at getting suspended fish imo, you can literally put it right in front of the fish and hold it there, you will need to figure out what the fish want to see with this presentation, but most of the time for me all there is to do is hold it in place with very little to no movement at all.
  9. A jigging spoon is very effective along with a suspending jerk bait, I agree with all the other guys here too, also I like a drop shot, a drop shot will allow you to keep that bait in the strike zone for as long as you want.
  10. What rod are you using? The rod may be too fast for really heavy hook sets you are speaking of, just ease up on the hook set a little, with the hooks today it really does not take a home run kind of swing to set the hook, a quick set from the 9 o-clock straight up will get you what you need.
  11. I'm glad you posted that question, I use Zoom Lizards all the time with really good results, the 11" in deep water and 8" in shallower water, I have never tried these and often wondered if I should pick these up.
  12. NOW THAT IS FUNNY RIGHT THERE !!!!!!!! LMAO !!!!!!!!!!!!!
  13. There are no little things imo, everything is on a grand scale for me and nothing is taken for granted. The one biggest thing that gets me is that deep, deep breath you take, closing my eyes and giving thanks, only to open them again and find the most beautiful painting one could ever create, the sheer serenity you get from time to time is mind blowing, knowing you have been allowed to be a part of something like that, gets me every time.
  14. Anna should be in her winter pattern by now. Main lake points are going to be where I would start my search this time of year with deep water access, channel ledges, deep rock piles, deep brush piles, ALL are really going to be your best bet this time of year. The big key to Anna right now is to locate the bait fish, find them and you will find the fish !!! One area they should still be schooling is the dike 3 area, this time last year you could catch stripers on top water action early in the morning and late in the afternoon. For LMB I would suggest suspending jerk baits, Spoons work awesome this time of year there, Visit Anna Point Marina and get a Tooth Ache Spoon, see Chris Craft if he is working that day or Dave Fauntleroy, The best strikes come from jig and pig combo's, imo, fish slow and methodical, I can't stress that enough !!! Remember find the bait fish and you will find the bass !!!!
  15. Really nice fish Quan !!!! Congrats on a successful day buddy !!!
  16. I did and no one answered, but I shall try again, Thanx !!! I thought they were closed because the site said they closed like Oct, 4th
  17. I think I am going with Mudkart's suggestion, full hook up's are $41 per night, and I can put my boat on the site as well, I am going to call them when they open for the season and get some more info, but the way it looks if some of these tent guys want to split the costs, they allow like 4 tents per site, but that has NOT BEEN CONFIRMED YET !!!! I will however like I said, have more info on the place, if so desired, once they open for the season. I did already look at that place you suggested also, it's pretty close to the same as Smallwood, RV sites are only 30 feet in length like Smallwood too. I still wish to come up there and take a gander around with ya to see what's what though.
  18. I don't care who you are that's funny right there !!!!!!! I think that one should go in the live well for sure, she has a great sense of humor !! Good luck and be safe !!!
  19. X2, Bitsy jigs with a flirt worm, killer !!! Small hops as Quanjig says and they will eat them up !!!
  20. NICE JOB MUDKART !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I looked t that place and it is exactly what I needed !!! Prices are not bad either, cabins look great too !!! Thanx buddy !!!! It's just a short trip down the Potomac to get to Mattawomen too, I will gather all the info for those who may be interested here as well !!
  21. Zoff, I will get with you and see what dates are available by the first of the week. Traveler, Do you know of any other campgrounds that are in close proxy to that area?
  22. I was really impressed with the quality of jig for the price, very tough jigs on top of that with high quality hooks, not only that but the service you get from Mike is more than I ever expected. Any questions you may have, he is on the ball with helping you out with anything you need, I can't say enough about Mike and his company, one of the best buying experiences I personally have ever had.
  23. When I called Smallwood, the person there said there was no sites that would work for my camper, I have a 31 foot travel trailer, he also told me there was no over flow parking where I could keep my boat. There was also a conversation about hook-ups all they had was electric only, the camper does have a fresh water tank holding tank which would be no problem, but there seems to be no way to camp there cause it does not offer the room to allow a RV to be set up there. It sounds to me like it is ment for camping tents and cabins only, so how much of this is true? As far as the license goes all we need in addition to our state licence is a saltwater stamp as well? The shine wont be an issue either !!! Zoff, as far as when, I may have an opening next weekend, or we may take a day off and head toward Traveler's house.
  24. It's now 5 to 4 between the Potomac and SML, with the Potomac out in front, the Occoquan has 2 and now the Chick is up and running with one vote. It's tight between the 2 front runners, we have the month of December to decide so who's it gonna be ???? This is getting exciting !!!!!
  25. When your wife tells you she is getting you a new rod, and it does'nt involve medication.
