  1. Same derivative as "Dirt Floor Poor", most of these phrases come from way back, even before the great depression, coal miners in the hills of WVA and surrounding states, the families were put up in shacks that had no floor, basically just a roof and four walls, living quarters were very small and often times several children shared the same room, rooms were seperated by bed sheets hung as a divider. As history comes and goes, I take nothing for granted, I am thankful for each and every day and each and every thing I work for.
  2. Fishing high pressured lakes to me is just a mind set, like WRB posted it would help you to know a lot more about what he is asking, the next thing is something that Shane J stated "get off the banks" if everyone else is fishing them and not being successful, chances are you won't be either, learn a little more about the structure of the lake and find the fish first and then start fishing. If you are fishing a high pressured body of water then slow down, these fish spook really easy, think about an animal that has been mistreated, how long will it be before it will trust anyone, find out how long it takes for the fish to react to your bait by letting it sit if you know they are there, try and excersise your patience and work your baits a good bit slower.
  3. When fishing non visable targets, you need to rely on your sonar, if you do not have a sonar, then there are a number of different approaches one can take, You need to figure out what the fish are relating to first, ie...structure, cover, if they are on the bottom then jigs/jigging spoons work very well, if they are relating to the channel ledge then maybe a jerk bait, or some narrow wobble crank bait that runs at the proper depth where the fish are located. Exploration of the creek channel with a jig or C-rig will help you to understand what the fish are relating to if you do not have a sonar, relate to the time of day and the position of the creek channel as well, your best option this time of year will be creek channels that are East to West, the sun will stay over these waters all day and will help aid in keeping the waters warmer, bait fish will seek out these warmer water temps and the bass will follow, look for differences in the channel and note them, such as a bend for example, if you are an early riser and on the water before the crack of dawn, don't expect too much action until a little later in the day if the water temps are really cold, this is not to say that you wont catch any that early in the morning but the fish are just more active during warm water periods of time, give the sun a little time to heat up some areas first, such as shallower pockets of water or an area that has a lot of rocks, pick an area that best suits the time of day and fan cast it to get a feel for what is down there and you will soon find what the fish are doing if the fish are there. Good luck and be safe !!!
  4. Each season brings a new challange, as Sloan posted, paying close attention to details during each of those seasons is very much a key to what the fish are doing, for me I guess the biggest key is structure, I visit a lot of new waters each year, looking at a map for each of these places helps me decide where I would like to fish first or where I would like to start my search for fish, I am always looking for bait fish first no matter the time of year, with the exception of the spawn, most of us already know where to look for bass during this time, it's the time before and after that drive me, finding fish and catching fish during cold fronts is also something that drives me, during fronts and shortly after is much like fishing winter patterns, slow and methodical seems to work best with the bait right in front of them, even then it wont ensure a strike, you just have to be patient and exsersise your mind to be patient when you know your there in the right spot and usually it works to your advantage, thinking outside the box on heavily pressured waters will a lot of times yeild results, most importantly though is, whatever bait I am fishing I want to make sure it's in contact with the surrounding area, it's always in contact with cover or structure, no matter the season, the only thing that changes is the speed. Of course the best trick I have is reading everyones posts on this site and taking what they have to say into consideration while on the water, while not everything is something I can use, I use everything to the maximum advantage I can, hopefully I am able to give back as much as I learn.

  13. Gordon Lightfoot and Jim Croche are a couple that come to mind, it's in between folk and contemporary but still it's good stuff if you like songs that have words with meaning, John Denver also has some good folk music with a country twist in some of his stuff.

  16. I too have the best ever family, I did not get any fishing gear for christmas, but I got a lot of everything else, I got to spend time with both my daughters which was to me the absolute best part of Christmas, my youngest daughter got me a leather Redskins jacket with the embroidered lettering and logo, she kept wanting to give it to me after every skins game since she knows how pumped I am about their season especially after the way they have been winning, I do not have a pic of the jacket but I do have a pic of me getting ready to open the package, we were goofing off while my wife was searching for batteries for the camera, thought you all might enjoy it. My oldest Daughter gave me a gift that will stay with me for quite some time as well, she got me a leather wallet with an embossed bass on it, both gifts are bad a## !!! I love my girls !!!!!!
