  1. If you want to find somewhere to fish other than your local waters all you have to do is ask. It's pretty obvious I have not been to my home town in a long time but I am located in north west Va. and if you are willing to travel then I will be happy to help you out.
  2. I wish I could say it was a little better but nothing over 4 lbs yet but the best thing about the season so far is that my wife has joined me for a lot of my trips and has had some success and my 2 daughters are showing a lot more interest in the sport and go with me on occasion so I guess I would have to say it's been a great season so far. Thanks for asking. Be safe and be happy!!
  3. If it catches fish for you and it does not give you problems then you did good. Good luck and have fun.
  4. I have a Berkley cherry rod that my dad bought for me when I was 6 and it has gone through some reels but the 6' rod is just as good now as it was then and I'm 47 so my answer would be no.
  5. Funny!! ;D I guess what I am asking is can you be considered a pro and not fish tournaments or are you considered an avid fisherman?
  6. Good glad to hear that and your welcome.
  7. OK so we learned about what 10 mistakes a amateur makes so at what stage are you considered a pro... disregarding any sponsorships...for example (not that this would happen but) If a amateur who let's say only has one year or less in the field and can catch fish on a consistent basis and win tournaments on a consistent basis... How do you establish a pro?
  8. I have not fished any tournaments yet but it seems to me that passing up an opportunity to top water fish is like passing up the opportunity to throw a t-rig either way you miss out by not trying it.
  9. As a ammature I don't think we exude enough patience and we look too hard for the correct advice. 1: We tend to look for advice from pros when we should be looking for club's to help hone our underdeveloped skill's. 2: We spend too much money on thing's that may or may not work without asking why first. 3: The learning curve is too broad and we take to many shortcut's to try and shorten the curve and end up backtracking and starting over and getting frustrated in the process. 4: We don't pay enough attention to detail with the structures around us and below us. 5: We tend to start off wanting to turn pro and then realisation becomes reality we are not as good at this as we think. 6: We tend not to learn from our mistakes and failure to document them in mental notes leads to more frustration. 7: We don't know how to establish patterns yet so we over think and don't react to what's right in front of our face. 8: We still haven't joined a good club yet. 9: We spend more money and still have not joined a good club yet. 10: We spend even more money and still have not joined a good club yet. 11: Patience,Patience,Patience and the lack of it.
  10. Wow really great pic's guy's looks like a whole lot of fun!!! Do any of you fish the shennandoah anywhere between Luray and Front Royal?
  11. Wayne if you have not gotten through to Minn kota yet you can always try their website and I don't think that part you are thinking about is all that difficult to repair although it will take some time and patience. I have fixed a few for people but not that particular model so my experience is very limited, one of the models had to have the complete body replaced you could not get that part by it self.
  12. Where did you guy's go?
  13. Dan that's really beautiful country there and no matter how well or poorly you do, or you think you do, All you have to do is look around and you will realise just how good life is.
  14. Hey im pretty good with programming where can I get the software?
  15. I agree with Al, But if you don't have a store close to you then you could charge it and disconnect it and let it sit for a day and see if it does the same thing unless you have a digital volt meter then you can disconnect the negitive battery cable and put your meter in-line and set your meter to amps and see how many mili amps you are drawing (should be no more than 0.50 ma with everything turned off)
  16. Well at least I didnt bet on you guys. Note: TMI with the pliers. Oh well I guess theres always another rematch, Just have to spank em then!!
  17. In my case since it is mounted on the boat I am pretty sure it is the transducer but I bought a cheap sonar and it does exactly what I wanted it to do and does it flawlessly so I am not complaining but it would have been nice to know when I was making the decision.
  18. Good comment but you can still use bait casters with light line and lure's if you have a good set up and practice with it I have 2 set up's with light line's and lure's that work very well. I am modifiying this to say I should have been a little clearer in that of saying it is very difficult to start off using a bait caster for what you are trying to do and that a spinning set- up would be the best thing for you to think about using untill you get aquainted with bait casters and I don't think there is one of us here that has not rat nested one a time or two.... or three.... or in my case several, Just dont give up and keep working at it and you will get really good with them.
  19. What happened?
  20. No thank's you just keep your chubs ( and your nutt's ) lol
  21. Well if nothing else maybe I can do a little training with this monkey and she will eventually come home with something useful like a new Nitro or something. Until then I'm just glad she is buying stuff for her and staying out on the water. But it's killing our fishing fund's!!!! (I'm thinking shock collar)
  22. Where is your transducer located? If you have mounted it like I did (to the boat) I am having the same issue you are and I also tried to turn the ping speed up and down to correct this but I have not resolved my issue yet. The way the owners manual reads is that by turning up the ping speed it should have corrected this condition. I don't remember if there was a statement in the owners manual stating that this transducer is for low speed operation only but it gave 2 locating options of either a trolling motor mount or a boat mount and it has the option of water speed if you added the speed generator then I think you will have it at higher speeds, Unless I misunderstood the manual.
  23. Awsome thanks I will be going soon and I will try that out.
