The guys they are showing/talking about are me and my buddy. (Around 1:20 mark). I finished the day with 19.96lbs.
Tons of 4lb+ Largemouths down there. Totally different water than up north but super fun. PM me before you head up and I'll get you the latest info.
I Carolina Rig a lot. I use a Citica E with 20lb Seaguar Abrazx main line (17lb mono leader). I throw 1oz weights in depths up to 45'... I have never ran low on line, don't worry about it. The above comment about line bow with mono and braid is SPOT ON.
Citica E for $40-$60
add bearing under driveshaft ($3)
if you are compelled to swap the handle as stock Curado E is ~$30 Hawgtech ~$60
while the reel is broken down throw a smooth drag in it for $8
Now you have a Curado for under $100 it's just silver...
I have owned probably a dozen Curado E's and Citica E's. The stock "performance" is nearly identical... The Curado's stock "feel" is better (due to the bearing in the driveshaft and in handle knobs). If you are just looking for a great "tool" then the Citica is a great option.
Keitech 4.8's with a 1/8 or 1/4 weighted hook. I use a 7' or 7'3" MHF (St Croix Avid or Dobyns Champ 734) with a 6.?:1 Reel (Daiwa Fuego) spooled with 14 or 16lb Sunline Sniper Flouro. I fish them SLOW so the 6:1 ratio helps. I've tried to use 7:1 and I was really hard to keep it as slow as I wanted.
Thankfully this set up is probably the most versatile set up in any bass anglers arsenal.
A VT License will let you fish everywhere on the lake EXCEPT South Bay (the southern tip of Champlain) and up the rivers on the NY side. A NY License will not work in the inland sea or Missisquoi Bay... VT is the way to go. There is a campground in Swanton that will launch you out on to the northern end of the inland sea (the name escapes me at the moment, google it). Do you have an RV? There's a site just down the road from me in Georgia (20 minutes to Saint Albans bay) and another in Colchester just minutes from Malletts Bay. Again the names escape me (and a 1.5 year old is sittng on me as well).
They will still be on the spawn, or just starting with the way things are looking (over 3' of ice in spots...) Rouses Point, St. Albans Bay, Fields/Town Farm Bays. Spinning rod with TINY tubes will be the ticket.
Seriously PM me before you head up and I'll get you better Intel. You staying in VT or NY?
A 6'6" or 7' UL St. Croix Avid and an older 750 sized Shimano (you can find these easily NOS) spooled up with 8-10lb braid (then if you want, add a leader). Braid is really your only option to eliminate line twist on a spinning reel.
I have a 7' UL Moderate action Avid and it can bomb a trout magnet out there.
I live within 12 minutes of 3 launches, 30 minutes of 4 more. Pm me when it gets closer to your trip. I'll take mainebass out and we can hook up. Wait... what?
There's also a launch in Shelburne Bay. Shelburne can be really tough because the smallies are so schizophrenic there. Amazing one day and gone for a week.
What time of June?
I live minutes from the Inland Sea and can point you to a bunch of spots. Plus if the smallies are ****** the largemouths are there too.
