  1. Look at the hull # (should be on a plate on the transom) & call Ranger for specifics on the boat. That model was made from 88 to 94. If it is an 89 or newer it is guaranteed to have a glass transom. 88 may have a wood one, but probably not. The Mercury is probably an XR4, not a bad motor, hates cold mornings. Get it checked out before you buy. I have an 88 374v (same hull) it's a great little boat. Paid $3000 2 years ago, a stupid good deal and way low.
  2. Lamiglas 735 blank Dobyns 735 blank Phenix Recon 766 blank Lucky Craft Carolina Rig is awesome but hard to find now. Reels? I do just fine with Citica E's (6.2:1), I do upgrade the drags though. I can see where a 7:1 would help. Mono and braid both bow a little due to drag. I switched to 20lb Abarzx and can't say enough how awesome it is. 2 seasons on deep, rocky, zebra mussel filled Lake Champlain and only 4 break off's. I suspect entirely due to my laziness. Spro Swivel Phenix finesse or mojo style weight just don't snag. Usually a 1oz or 3/4oz. Suffix Siege 17lb mono leader 3-6ft. I like mono leaders as they keep the bait off the bottom a bit. 15lb Big Game works too. Hooks... I drag a Speedcraw 98.7787% of the time an offset worm hook works way better on skinny baits than an EWG. I ONLY use EWGs when dragging Keitech swimbaits...
  3. The lazers mentioned above OR on a 4/0 EWG with nail weights in the bait... (just going to leave that there for you)
  4. 8ish years old? $10 is a great deal.
  5. Drop shot them and don't move your rod...
  6. Some boats have a downward curve around the live well. Drill 5-6 holes slightly larger than the cull tag. Hang the tags there. Bass Angler Magazine had a how to about this.
  7. Pit Boss worked the same way produces as well.
  8. It is a typo (Geography and History degrees from UVM). Message me about northern champ in September. I'll point you in the right directions. Don't sell yourself short, on getting to Ti. If you want information on that I will be glad to help too.
  9. I rig a lot... like A LOT... Lamiglas 735 blanks are great for the 1oz weight plus plastic as are the Dobyns 735 blanks. If you are tossing a BIG plastic then something like the Phenix Recon 766 is great as well. I got one of the closeout Lucky Craft Carolina rig rods this winter and have only just played with it, but WOW it's nice.
  10. When are you going to be on Champlain (Ticonderoga and Plattsburgh) and in Clayton? I know a thing or two about Champlain.
  11. GPS isn't needed for where you will be fishing... however... it is really nice to have. If you are going to be on say, Waterbury Reservoir or Peacham pond, you will find all sorts of things that you can easily miss again. Marking a way point makes coming back super easy. Smaller/shallower lakes don't really "need" it. Down imaging is nice when uses in conjunction with the sonar. You can easily tell a bait ball from a brush pile. The $10-15 Navionics app does an amazing job and allows you to do "bathroom break" research. Look into the Garmin Echomap 73dv's for $425 at bps (love mine) and perhaps the Striker 4DV for $119 then get the $20 cable to link them. This way you have the bigger unit with preloaded maps up front where you will spend most of your time fishing. When you mark a spot on it the way point with be stored on both units. So next time you go you can drive right to the spot. A smaller screen on the console is fine since you are so close to it.
  12. I was thinking that they came with a free tribal tattoo.
  13. People have solved this "problem" by putting a shim under the drive shafts bearing/bushing. I wouldn't be to concerned though.
  14. Next step is to bring it to Fed Ex, ups, or post office and bend over. Just Shipped a rod from VT to Wisconsin. $40...
  15. 7ft MH moderate St Croix MOJO with an OG Daiwa Fuego spooled with 16lb Sniper.
  16. On the more inexpensive side the Daiwa Procyon, Aird and Jupiter (Walmart version of the Aird) all have 7'6" H telescopic model. I've got the Jupiter as a frog rod and I like it. I could see it working for deep cranks a flipping in a pinch. I've got much higher end Heavy rods and I am not saying that they are comparable, however the dollar:function ratio is off the charts with the Jupiter. Look around your Walmarts, they are often on clearance, I got mine for $19.
  17. Grow a beard, then wear it around your neck. Or grow a neck beard...
  18. Fluorocast and Vanish are so close to the price of Red Label (OR Sunline Super FC OR the Gander Mtn Sunline) that I wouldn't risk going with either. I have seen Vanish and Fluorocast both fail for no reason with fresh spools last fall. Personally the 400yards for $25 (often only $20 or less) Gander Mtn/Sunline Flouro has been awesome in the 12 and 15lb, it's pretty hard and would be a great leader.
  19. 7'2" heavy Daiwa Zillion or Tatula.
  20. Just a heads up. That StarCraft is in Huntington, Lake Iroquois is 20 minutes away. I used to live in Hinesburg (other side of the hill from Huntington, actually where the U is on the picture below) and know exactly where that boat is. The Fisher Hull weighs a TON, I've had one. I would worry about the weight and towing.
  21. By "deep" they mean 100+ft. Nothing you'd encounter bass fishing. I've got 2 GT-40's on big old Lake Champlain. No issues.
  22. Find out what racks from Thule and Yakima fit your vehicle. Check Craigslist and local bike shops (often have spring swaps. I got mine for 75 at one... saved 300.) If you need help with figuring out the racks that you need, pm me. I've got a ton of experience with the stuff.
  23. San Diego jam? I pull it tight with my tongue on the line/knot.
