Except for the guys that like to use moderate rods... I have an old Nutter built custom jerkbait rod made of glass with a counter weight wrapped around the top of the blank. My favorite jerkbait rod.
Expect a billion opinions on this, all valid and work for the person suggesting. I'd start with your spinning rod and move to the moderate action rod next.
Dragging big carolina rigs on an 8ft spiral wrapped rod is a much more comfortable experience than traditionally wrapped. Just my take, but any rod used with high drag or heavy baits, a spiral wrap certainly doesn't hurt.

Body is thick, Gammy and Eagle claw weighted hooks in 4/0 dont have wide enough gap. 5/0 owner flashy swimmer isn't much better. That's for the 120mm bait. For the 100mm it's harder because there's not a lot (any) super wide gap weighted hooks in 3/0.
Damiki and megabass jigheads give a weird profile that picks up and holds weeds.
