Brailist showed today. Feels great in hand, paired with a Scorpion DC. Flex/action/power feels a lot like a MHR Daiwa or a 734.5 Dobyns.

1/4 oz jig plus a trailer is pretty close to 3/8oz total weight, I wouldn't worry.

Except for the guys that like to use moderate rods... I have an old Nutter built custom jerkbait rod made of glass with a counter weight wrapped around the top of the blank. My favorite jerkbait rod.

Expect a billion opinions on this, all valid and work for the person suggesting. I'd start with your spinning rod and move to the moderate action rod next.

Carolina Rig

Dragging big carolina rigs on an 8ft spiral wrapped rod is a much more comfortable experience than traditionally wrapped. Just my take, but any rod used with high drag or heavy baits, a spiral wrap certainly doesn't hurt.

Your braid and sinker shape are hurting you. Go 20lb Flouro, go Phenix Rock crawler lead weights and you're going to see a massive improvement.

My Edge box still allows sz 1 Mosquito Lights to jump containers. Ice box does as well.

My go to Topwater/jerkbait line

Don't bother with any topwater. Heavy ds weights Pay attention to what the dams down river are doing.

I run my great uncle's Berkley Buccaneer glass rod 7wt with Heddon 320 reel. Its a 60-70 year old combo and works great.

Like them in conditions where you'd throw a spinnerbait.

I cant count the number of 3-5lb smallies that threw up 6-9" perch. Find Perch offshore and smallmouth will be nearby. Adjust baits accordingly.

Body is thick, Gammy and Eagle claw weighted hooks in 4/0 dont have wide enough gap. 5/0 owner flashy swimmer isn't much better. That's for the 120mm bait. For the 100mm it's harder because there's not a lot (any) super wide gap weighted hooks in 3/0. Damiki and megabass jigheads give a weird profile that picks up and holds weeds.

Just looking to see what everyone uses for heads/hooks for both sizes of these things. Struggling to find the magic set up.
