  1. After yesterday it won't be long now. Shelburne, Bristol, and Monkton Ponds are all fishable now, with just a little slushy stuff left. Mallet's bay is launchable too according to my buddy.
  2. Go on Ebay and look for Mr Twister Top-Props. They float and create a ruckus, great for fishing lilypads and thick weeds that haven't yet broken the surface.
  3. I was out on Bristol Pond (Lake Winona) for a few hours, 80% still has ice but the channel out to the pond and the whole North side are open. The ice there was going shockingly fast probably lost 8 feet in the couple hours we were there. It was like someone dumped a 200 acre slush puppy on the pond. Saw 2 perch and a baby beaver. Highlight of the day was using the canoe as an icebreaker... "Ramming Speed!!!" Someone doing something dumb on the Lamoille?!!!! I'm Shocked! hahahahaha There are pools on the North Branch up in Waterville/Belvidere that families literally bring bars of soap down to the river and bathe...
  4. The Fill (Colchester Bike Path)is open. Charcoal Creek (way up north) is open. The Culvert right before the Sandbar is producing Perch and Crappie (if you need a fix). Shelburne Pond, Lake Iroquois, Monkton and Bristol Ponds are melting at a good pace, open at the in and out flows of each. I think I'm going to goof around on the Fill Sunday.
  5. When a swim Senko get's chewed/hookset to the point that the front end is useless, I pinch off the smooth tail section and use that as a Swimjig trailer. 3 and 4 inch curly tails work as well.
  6. I grew up on the shore of Lake Champlain... The first time (I was about 13) I saw one of thier feeding frenzy wolf packs going after my Wally Diver. Bronze flashes and red eyes. I was hooked.
  7. I've been in the back yard practice flipping like a whack-job. My secret pond (fingers crossed) may be melted enough to hit Sunday...
  8. At the $100 price point I'd look at the Abu Veritas, St. Croix Mojo or Premier, Lamiglas Excel, Shimano Compre, and BPS Carbonlite. The TFO's are made in Korea with a blank that was designed with the help of Gary Loomis.
  9. 16-18" of Ice on Carry Bay in the islands as of yesterday. I've heard reports of 14-26" of ice around the lake. We need the wind and rain to keep going!!!! Smaller Champlain Valley ponds should be open within a week. Hopefully...
  10. I found I can and do catch a ton of P-Seeds, Rock Bass, Crappie and SM/LM with these baits. 2 3/4" Yo Zuri Pin's Minnow. 1/16 and 1/8 oz Roadrunner heads with Tiny Ika Trailer. The smallest Heddon Torpedo.
  11. Whole Wheat dough/crust. .75 lb chicken cooked in a skillet with olive oil and garlic. enough "quality" alfredo sauce for the Pizza. 2 cups shredded Motz cheese. 1 jar of bacon bits or 4oz of homemade bacon bits. 1 cup of steamed broccoli. That's an awesome pizza....
  12. Rapala Subwalk fished eratically. Small Spinnerbaits.
  13. This was from 3-26-11 (in Vermont), there is A LOT of ice still out there...
  14. I keep getting an "generic error" every time I add something to my cart...
  15. Your MH should be fine a 4" Hudd isn't that big. Slow roll it, make it seem like it's out for a stroll, no need to be jerky of make it look like it's spazzing out.
  16. Everything is still locked up for all intents and purposes. The Ice Guys are hammering big Northerns right now and they are still reporting 12+" of ice in the bays with the edges still holding tight. Bullhead are starting to stage/run so the river flows are up which is good for breaking up the lake. 2 more weeks is my guess.
  17. I have a 734C and a 703S. Both are really nice, light and reasonably sensitive. They are (IMHO) a bit underpowered in relation to their ratings. The 734 is a "MH" according to Lamiglas, but is feels like it has less power than my "M" Allstar rod. I know this isn't specific to Lamiglas, but something to keep in mind. My 703/Pflueger Supreme XT combo is just pure sessiness!!! ~$100 they are a bargin! I'm going to get a 7116 model during the May TW sale.
  18. I've had great luck with fishing stuff: Abu 5501 C3 AND Citica B (spare cranking reel) for $45, just some cleaning/lubing and they were perfect. $200+ Quantum PT Swimbait rod for $50 2 Jointed Jitterbugs and a Sputterbuzz, all were black and older (higher quality) models, for $10 I bought a used roadbike off ebay though that was absolutely trashed, I went round and round with the seller and got nowhere. I was a pro-mechanic for a while so it was nothing I couldn't fix, it was just not advertised as needing 4 hours worth of work to make it ridable. I have no problem with ebay as long as the seller has a good rep and if it's used I need to be able to handle any mechanical issues that may come with it. If I'm comfortable rebuilding a used reel/bike/etc. I'll bid.
  19. Look up the "Donkey Rig", I had a lot of luck/fun with that rig. They also work really well with Swarming Hornets, Scroungers, and Chatter heads. I've never really gone deeper than say 6' with them. I'm building up some funky Fluke rigs as we speak, I'll test them as soon as the 20"+ ice is gone. I'll post pix of the good ones.
  20. 1st Timer Here... Beautiful Stuff!
  21. St. Croix MOJO Inshore ~$140 TFO Gary Loomis Signature Saltwater Spinning $99.99 Berkley Cobalt Saltwater Spinning is ~$80. TFO looks good...
  22. http://www.mudhole.com/Shop-Our-Catalog/MHX/MHX-Rod-Blanks Oh they have heavier for sure. MHX blanks are really nice for the $$$$$.
  23. Mudhole's MHX MB941-MHX 7'10" (cut an inch off) 2.9oz 10-17lb line 1/4 - 1 oz lures FAST Action MED Power .575 Butt 5 Tip $55.00
  24. Awesome C-Rigged... I found that you needed to have the weights slid as far back as possible when fishing it as a swim/jerk bait. I love them. Bluegill and White are my 2 favorites.
