  1. Nice to have you here...I miss fishing the lakes in NH.
  2. That sounds awesome, I haven't fished down that way in a long time. Thanks
  3. Thanks again guys....I look forward to learning from all of you and sharing my 2 cents worth of experiences with you.
  4. I went out last Friday and thought the fish just had lock jaw. I went out again yesterday and found some males @ the northern end of the lake guarding nests and not liking the Bluegill around. I thought it was a little early.
  5. Hi all. I'm looking for recommendations/opinions on where you would install the guilds on a casting rod in relation to the spine? I've built 4 casting rods in the past and have installed the guides opposite the natural curve so that the rod will bend easiest to the fish and will cast a little further this way. I have recently read that this is more of a user preference and the guides can be installed either way. I'm looking to build a new casting rod based on the type of fishing I most commonly do: 90% of my fishing is from the bank. I like fishing with jigs, spinnerbaits, worms (mostly weightless and wacky style) and Zara Spooks. I have to at times make long casts to get on a hump or a weed line and find that setting the hook on a jig or worm can sometimes be a hit or miss thing. I'm wondering if I place the guides on the natural curve I would increase my hooking percentage, but I'm not sure if I would compromise casting ability. Do anyone have any recommendations on this?
  6. Great work!
  7. This past weekend's rain and cold front seem to have pushed the fish back towards deeper water. Has the bite slowed down for anyone else?
  8. Very nice work. I have a great appreciation of the giude wraps you used here. I know they took some time. I toyed with decorative butt wrap (fish net design) on my split handle rod, do you have any experience with that? I would like to gain some knowledge with the technique. Again, very nice work.
  9. You're about a half hour away, I'm from Stoughton. Thank you all again for the welcome.
  10. Hot glue melt will also fill-in any voids between the tip top and rod tip (the tip top should not be very snug, it should have a fairly loose fitting). It will be much easier to remove and replace in the future. Place a little hot glue on the tip of the rod and the hole of the tip top. What should happen when you fit the tip top on is that excess glue (this will ensure you that you have ample amount of glue inside the tip top) will form a ring at the base of the tip top. Once it's dried you can peel it away with your finger tip. Hope this helps
  11. Thanks all...
  12. That is by far the finest paint jobs I've ever seen....GREAT WORK!
  13. I make my own Arky Jigs and spinnerbaits. I have the Arky Jig DO-IT mold and I get all the materials from an on-line tackle making store (I'm new to the forum and I'm still learning the do's & don'ts of posting, so I don't know if I can mention the tackle making store I buy from). The initial cost is expensive, but when you break it down, making jigs and spinnerbaits yourself could cost as much as 50% less. Make sure you really heat up the lead prior to pouring in the mold. I went thru my share of hooks before I got the lead to cast right. Good luck, I hope this helps. Florida Strain....NICE lures you built! I've made wooden cranks and can never get the paint job THAT GOOD!
  14. I've been doing well on the banks from mid-march to about mid-week when this front came in. The bass were pretty active and hitting on spinnerbaits and jigs. My profile pic was takened on a jig in about 4' of water the day of Easter Sunday. Good luck.
  15. Hello all, I've found myself coming on this website frequently and have decided to join in. I'm 43 and have been mostly bank fishing for freshwater bass and also like striped bass fishing in salt water for about 12 years. I catch my fair share of bass, but I know I can be a much better angler. I hope to learn as much from you all and hope I can help you as well. Good luck with the upcoming season!
