  1. Us as well, we're not outta the woods yet. We had 2' of snow April fools day back back in 95. It's La Nina!
  2. Lund Explorer: We have not had this much snow (for January) since 95/96 if I heard the reports correctly. This winter is not a yearly occurance. I live near the ocean/freeze line area where we can get a lot of snow or not much during the season. To be honest, we have been pretty lucky for the last few years, except for the spring floods we had last year which has never happened in my lifetime if I remember correctly. I can't comment on car races on frozen lakes.
  3. Ten Feet? Good grief, you won't get the boat out of the garage until Memorial Day unless it is to escape the flood if it all melts quickly! We got nailed last Thursday which contributed to the snow bank hgt. About a week prior to that it rained which knocked it down a bit otherwise it would have been much higher. It's been about 38 degrees for 3 days which melted is down a bit, but we're supposed to get nailed again mid-week. Today I went thru 2 towns to get my son to hockey, both towns had excavators and loaders widening the streets and knocking snowbanks down. To be honest, our inland waters needed this.
  4. Good luck bildgerat, I hope it is a winner for you. I fish a few old res's that give me the same snot algae problem you have. I may take a page from your book if you don't mind and try it out. Man, I did a dumb thing with that statement to bigerat and didn't answer the question! My sincere apologies! EDIT: There are many reasons why and you've just read a lot of them, but put this into perspective: The jig is one of the oldest lures known to man and to this day, catches huge fish with no explanation why.The Zara Spook has been around for almost 90 years. Both lures aren't very glamorous, but they catch big fish.
  5. Has anyone been icefishing? I haven't been able to go, but I was just curious if you've been having any luck?
  6. I have 10' plus snow banks at the end of my driveway, I'll take the heat we got last summer...1 drawback was cutting the grass in the heat and then jumping in the shower and still sweating during it. I can do without that! ;D
  7. Not a bad idea IMHO, maybe post your photos and weights in the "Fishing Location Section" (not random threads, but one for each state or country) of the site and have someone assigned as representative in all 50 states and international countries to keep a record of the fish caught. Top five fish wins. Maybe an extra for lunker. Ice out to ice in, for those of us that experience that, otherwise calender year. Just a thought.
  8. You could also add the affects of different line diameters. Bigger diameter = slower ROF and thinner = faster ROF. Skirt strand count: Less = faster ROF and More = slower ROF. I would guess that a higher strand count would produce more drag on a swim jig, making it a slower horizontal presentation and less strands would be faster. The above may not appear to be very significant, but they would add or subtract to the overall presentation, IMHO.
  9. You know farmpond 1, you're right, I didn't think of it that way...ROFL Bass_fanatic, I think you're covered, he did fly into her nest. ;D Not a bad thing...
  10. I'd say you win this thread. that's one big gator. Too bad you didn't video it, make a great commercial for Suffix. ;D Yup...I would have alot of good footage for a Suffix commercial. One time while fish Lake Fork I had a herron eat my chug bug and I didn't want to reel her in, so I let him take some drag and he flew into her nest in the top of a tree in the middle of Dale Creek. Apparently she was feeding her babies cuz when I finally jerked, the whole 20 ft. tree came down, along with the nest and I reeled in a baby herron. And that was with 12 lb Seige!! :-? Sorry I couln't resist...
  11. I found out later in life about the meaning of "gravity taking over".
  12. Nice to have you back.
  13. Welcome.
  14. Welcome to BR.
  15. Welcome to BR.
  16. I'm not sure if this is the type of answer you're looking for, but here it goes: I find myself using single spin spinnerbaits more often than not. I find that just by switching blades from big to small or from nickel to gold or colored blade or blade style for that matter will often be the difference for me to catching and not catching. The past couple of years the buzzbait bite has been non-existant, so I'll be making some modifications for them this season. We'll find out how it works.
  17. Yea your rgiht. Thats my favorite part of that movie. My favorite part was during the gun battle: JW: "Can't you throw it any farther?" WB: "Yeah, unles you want me to blow the whole place down" JW: "That's the general idea" WB: "There you go again, never can satisfy ya" JW: "Throw it!"
  18. My father and I watched that movie ALL the time it was on. To this day we both use the Stumpy (Walter Brennan) line: "There you go again, never can satisfy ya"...LOL Here's one from the same movie: Dean Martin (Dude) was called another name, I believe it was mentioned like 3 times in the movie. EDIT: Can you guess his other name?
  19. Was that the part when Brennan (Stumpy) and Martin (Dude) are walking down the street and Brennan kinda lifts his hat up and says in a deep voice "I told you to get back in there, and gets told off himself" and then starts laughing?
  20. That's funny, I did the same thing last summer... ;D I got out of work early one day and decided to bank fish a res on the way home. I felt a bite on my jig and went to set the hook. Well, I missed the fish, the lure came flying out of the water just missing my head and hooked onto the passenger side mirror of a passing F150. I got spooled....
  21. Good luck @ KY Lake.
  22. Or a leaf blower.
  23. Ewing? Yes. Right after him it was Rumeal Robinson. I can't remember if they played a season together tho, they may have.
