  1. GMAN, let me know what you think of them if/when you use them. I'm very interested on how they work for you.
  2. lynyrdsky1 makes a great point, once you do make it thru, kill the retrieve. I failed to mention that and I'm glad lynyrdsky1 picked that up. It's a very effective presentation IMO. Good going lynyrdsky1!
  3. Don't try and rip a spinnerbait thru weeds. They're not totally weedless, but they aren't all that bad. What I do is reel thru the weeds. You'll see you rod tip bend down a bit, but eventually it will come free. Single spins with a willow leaf blade is best, but you can make it thru on a tandem. The problem with tandems and weeds, the front blade tends to fowl, thus killing your whole retrieve. I fish a single blade about 90% of the time just for that reason. Plus it will give you added action to the bait. You'll notice that right after you reeled thru the weeds, there will be Mr. Bucket Mouth waiting for it. JF is dead on with like jigs and such. Feel the weeds and pop your rod tip. Lighter pops are always better followed by a slack line to let it fall a bit. Try lighter pops until it's time for heavier pops or rip it out. As stated above, your equipment is crucial. No need to expand on what has already been said.
  4. That's something I gotta try. Catt had mentioned using one in another thread. I think he mentioned that his daughter picked it out one day and he used it and won a tourney with it...The man is a fishing machine anyway. Oh sorry, I forgot the Catt wink:
  5. Some nice oinkers right there birdy! They're liking that grub for sure. Congrats.
  6. Nice PondBoss, I glad it worked for you and it sounds like you had a great day. WTG!
  7. The note pertains to the 2001 reg for the Quabbin an Wachusett Reservoirs which was really for sinkers. Now they went so far as implementing jigs as well for 2012. If you go to the CMR Definitions page they explain what a jig is..in a nut shell, they say lead molded to a hook.
  8. Wounded Shad Spook Jr. for quantity Spinnerbait & Jigs w/twin tail grubs for quality
  9. I noticed that this morning and when I clicked on "Compatibility View" In the tools menu on my Internet window, it worked like a champ.
  10. Good stuff right there Sam! I like to keep that bait color in the upper part the water column as well.
  11. I fish an old reservoir that has this problem. By mid-season I put away all my jigs and weighted t-rigs. Thankfully its a great topwater res. So it's either topwater, spinnerbaits or weightless trick sticks (wacky or t-rigged).
  12. During the winter I had a conversation with GMAN about the lead ban MA will be implementing in 2012 which will ban lead sinkers and jigs less than 1 oz. I can see lead sinkers being banned, but I didn’t know how I would deal with the rising costs of non-toxic jigs I’ll be experiencing a year from now. During our conversation, he was asking questions about the waters I fished, weights of jigs I used and general likes and dislikes of jig styles. I got a PM a few days later from him asking me to try out his finesse jig he can make with non-toxic materials. I ended up purchasing a few of them and I’m glad I did. I ended up buying some 3/8 oz jigs. The head is a little bigger than a standard 3/8 oz lead head, but you basically have to cast a ½ oz jig to get a 3/8 oz head to make up for the density and weight loss of lead with I’m assuming the alloy he used. I’m sure he can let you all know what that alloy is if need be. The skirt was tied on with wire, so you never get the feeling that it will ever turn over or completely come off on you. At the business end, you will find a Mustad Ultra point hook that will easily penetrate any fish’s mouth let alone a bass. You will feel confident that this will not only hook a fish, but won’t straighten out on you. I was able to get out and fish this jig. I paired it with an Xcite Raptor Tail Jr. Craw and fished brush, thick weeds and over chunk rock. Not a chip on the durable painted head after coming thru the rocks and is by far the easiest jig I’ve used coming through weeds and brush. I’m glad I had that friendly conversation with him over the winter. He recommended a jig that he knew would flat out work for me. Thanks GMAN, I’m sure I’ll be stocking up on these non-toxic jigs for next year and will have to get some of these made with standard lead for the remainder of this year.
  13. Gary did have something to do with it, he had a son Derek that designed it...LOL The apple didn't fall too far from the tree. Good luck with it!
  14. Very nice, glad you were still able to make the dive. Hope you get clearer and warmer water next time. Congrats on the wreck diver cert.
  15. Fishing deep. 20' plus deep. I don't do very well deep water fishing. The Color-C-Lector has always alluded me.
  16. Ahh, a tactical error made by me. I'm so used to keeping my rod down to keep the fish from jumping, I guess I wasn't thinking based on the circumstance. I guess that wall of weeds really psyched me out. I'll know better next time. Thanks for your help all.
  17. I'm from the Canton area. You can't go wrong starting out on a t-rigged worm and/or grub, IMHO. Maybe add a topwater popper to add some excitement. Rebel Pop-R was my first bass catch many years ago. Maybe a spinnerbiat. T-rigged worms are weedless and will make the day much more enjoyable Popper - well once you get one on a popper, you'll totally understand Spinnerbait - somewhat weedless and you can start out with a constant retireve and still get results. It is very versatile and eventually you'll find many different retrieves and techniques using them. Keep it simple and start out with maybe 3 types of lures that will get you thru the water column, learn whatever you can from them before you move on to something else. JMHO...Good luck and don't be afraid to ask questions.
  18. It may be a bit of a ride, but Ossipee is a beutiful lake with a nice bass population.
  19. SAAHWEET!
  20. Hey Ping, glad to have yoiu aboard. What part of MA you from?
  21. That's awesome. I'm glad all turned out well. FL, cadman helped me out in the past and is a great source for info as well as a very classy guy. I'm glad I got a chance to meet/talk to him thru this site. I wish you both nothing but good luck in the future.
  22. You're not too late. He's determined to do something. Any help or advice you can give him will be much appreciated. He'll tell ya...LOL He's a great guy Randy.
  23. You know kllrbee, you're well on way. Crestliner is dead on. Success breeds confidence. I make sure I bring my fav 3 lures with me, because those are the ones I had success on in the past. I try new techniques and lures out as much as possible and I always learn new things on my 3 favs as well. I don't think you will ever stop learning. Fishing is that dynamic (to me anyway). Good luck out there!
  24. No problem. Leave a message on this thread if you need more help. I'm home all day.
