  1. Buzzbaits are the worst for short striking fish, I usually wait until they take it down a bit before I set the hook. When I feel the rod load up a bit then I'll put the spurs to em. So yes, I fish them exactly like poppers, dogwalkers and prop baits.
  2. Well folks, it's here, a few more hours to go! This should be a lot of fun. Good luck to you all and happy fishing!
  3. Plenty of places down the Cape. Where are you staying on the Cape.
  4. Not at all...Works just as well and adds profile to the bait. I tied this one recently and tried it out. It has a bigger teaser than I normally tie and worked just as well as one with out.
  5. Ahh, paint your toe nails before you go in. That'll take the curse off of it...LOL To be honest with you, I do use nail polish on spinnerbait heads if I'm only making up a few, but before I go to the store, I make sure I have a list of things to buy. That way when they start scanning things in, the nail polish get kind of lost in the mix. Oh and a line of peeps behind you always helps. They don't care what's being scanned at that point.
  6. Improved clinch or polamar will work just fine. As far as teaser tails, I make my own, but I'm pretty sure most on-line tackle stores sell them. I know Cabelas has them, I'm sure BPS will as well. Look at that Rebel Pop-R you caught your oinker on? That'll work!
  7. That actually make 50-50 blades. Go to jannsnetcraft and check them out.
  8. Let me know how you do, I really want to try that one this year.
  9. Those hooks will be just fine. I tie direct, no loop knot, but that's my preference. Be careful of line size. #12-#17 mono dia is recommended. Too small of a dia will drag the nose down and making the spook jr. harder to walk. Too big will kill the action. If you can put on a teaser taill, even better.
  10. There's really not much else to do down the cape during the off-season. "Man drove into an apartement building and got hammered." Sounds like a normal occurance.
  11. I know where my heart is and there are a lot of anxious B's fans aound here. For all the B's fans and the B's themselves, I really hope the refs swallow the whistle tonight and let em play. I like the B's chances 5 on 5! Nucks are strong, I'm not ure if any team out of the east will last 7.
  12. Carwfish come out at night....JIGS
  13. Be safe and have fun!
  14. I fish a samll res in Lexington a lot. It's reall close to my work, so it's ideal and not far from you. It's on Rte 2A if your interested I can give you directions. Noremega is right in Newton, I've never fished it and don't know why, but I plan on getting there this year. Charles River as well. I'm sure there's more, but those come to mind.
  15. Why change a good thing? One of my all time favs! Good stuff right there RoLo!
  16. Good deal Jugger, I'll add you to the list...Good luck. Be sure to post your fish catch on the other Northeast Topwater Tourney thread.
  17. Nope, haven't forgotten that one gk, I still have an old one made by excalibur.
  18. No problem, I was just indicating a variation of what your op was about. I use both. If I'm shore fishing and I have an overhang pretty close in front of me and i want to get the lure way past that to another target, I'll have my lure come under. It will start out on a low trajectory and then will rise before it falls...Like a submarine pitcher. If that overhanging tree is my target, then I want my lure coming over the top. It will won't rise per se, but when it gets to the target, it drops off the plate like a sinker ball.
  19. I hate to say this, but I haven't been in Wells in years. We used to saty at the Atlantic Motor lodge, which I think they switched to condos a few years back That was basically at the end of Mile Road and right on the beach It used to have an inground pool above the garage. Anyway, I fish the incoming tide, 2 hrs before and 2 hours after high tide for the most part. I have had luck on an outgoing tide, but not as much. The more I think of it, get yourself a Luhr Jensen Crippled Herring and a Deadly Dick Spoon. WalMart in Biddeford will have them if you get stuck finding them. LOL...no problems with the questions. That's why you joined this site, right!
  20. The super spook jr. is my personal favorite as well. I thought it was "Zaragossa"? The 6500 series was a wooden lure. In 1939 they supposedy named it the Zara Spook (9000 series) because they were introduced as a plastic model.
  21. Harpoon, what kind of bass lures do you use? You'll be fine with 12 lbs test. I've caught plenty of schoolie stripers with less, but generally I use 17 lbs for later in the season when the bigger ones show up. I honestly think you will have more enjoyment this time of year up there targeting mackerel, but again, you'll never know. Your best areas are down the very end of the beach fishing off the jetties or as you come down Mile Road, instead of taking a left where all the cottages are, walk to the right. There is some nice seawalls and large rocks to fish from. EDIT: I forgot to mention, you need to register with the State of Maine this year to fish coastal waters. You can do it online. I think it's a $10 or $15 dollar fee. Here's the link: https://www5.informe.org/cgi-bin/online/dmr/swf/index.pl
  22. LOL...On May 29th @ 11:59:59 pm you can start on your back cast... Good Luck grandpa1114!
  23. I think a 4.5" 3/4 oz walkers are the easiest to learn on, they're not as fast as a smaller one, so you can pick up the cadence fairly easy. Here's a good article to read: http://www.bernieschultzfishing.com/9406bm.htm
  24. You can get 2 different results in the way you bring the lure around your rod tip on the release. By that I mean, if you circle the lure clockwise (if you're a righty), the lure comes out under the rod. Counter-clockwise over the rod. The counter-clockwise will present the lure almost like a sinker ball...I'm having a hard time trying to explain it, but try it, you'll understand....
  25. It's a great feeling, huh?
