  1. I usually have a lure hang from my rod about 6-8" before I cast, with Pop R's and other topwater I find that if I let it hang down about 12", I can get a longer cast. Give that a try.
  2. I pushed Andersen for years. Great window, a little more expensive and they always stick by their product. I still have clients who ask me to come and repair a window that was installed 10 years ago and i can call Andersen for a part and they have it. Can't beat that!
  3. Shane J by a land slide...I think peeps forgot about this tourney or lost interest...LOL I had the worst topwater fishing year in my life...On the plus side I caught a limit (5) on the Wednesday following Labor day and one tipped in at a lil better than 3 lbs...oh well, I was always late for the party. I know about Mashpee, but it sounds like you all have a problem with too many non-boaters as it is and all I'll be doing is adding to the problem. There will hopefully be other outings. From a work standpoint, things have gotten better for me, so hopefully I can shed one of my 3 jobs and free up for these things in the future. Thanks anyway Grandpa, much appreciated.
  4. What weight sizes are you planning on making? Sounds great tho!
  5. Thanks for the kind posts guys. You're right Grey Wolf, this ranks right up there with a baseball a Rox player gave him back last spring. He still talks about that night. B-Dozer, he wanted to skip school today so we could go fishing... Tom D. I think you're onto something, I may just do that. Again, thank you all for the kind posts, I'm very appreciative.
  6. I'm sure a few of them won't make it and Im good with that. You're right SirSnook, it is part of the sport. Thanks guys.
  7. Sounds like you guys adjusted well and put together a great outing. Congrats to you both.
  8. My then 6 year old son got into fishng baitcasters last year, so I got him a Pinnacle reel at the end of the season for XMas. We never got out to try it until today for our first outing of the season, but what an impressive reel! Tight drag, smooth casting and overall feel was very comfortable. I would highly recommend this reel for anyone, especially for someone who is starting out learning baitcasters. Thanks Pinnacle, I know I purchased a great product and I'm sure he'll enjoy this reel for years to come.
  9. Pics are always tough, but an oinker for sure BASSclary. Congrats to both of you!
  10. My son and I haven't been able to go fishing together at all this year, so today we went fishing for the first time together. We went for about three hours and spent a good amount of time getting him reaquainted with bait casting again. On one of the last casts of our outing he was able to hook into this one:
  11. Nothing wrong with that rant. Common courtesy should apply to all fishing circumstances, IMHO. Did you politely say something to the person(s) in the boat?
  12. That's awesome A-Jay. Great pics and story, Thank you very much for sharing. When I got out of High School my dad was pushing me to go to Mass Maritime...today I wish I did.
  13. 1 bait? Dogwalker. Nothing like topwater fishing.
  14. Sorry to hear that Lee.MD, I hope it picks up for you down there. I'm going with my 7 year old son tomorrow for the first time all year. I hope he catches a few. Take care and good luck.
  15. Great fish Man! You told it perfectly!
  16. Catt, I had to ask the question, thanks for the clarification. The topic quesion and the OP is a bit misleading, and I think slonezp nailed it by asking the right question about being shore bound or fishing from a boat. There is a difference between the 2 IMHO.
  17. This has been bugging me for a couple of years. I really like topwater fishing and 9 times out of 10 I would get a bass on the belly hook. Inevitably the rear hook always gets caught on the side or top of the fish or on the end of the gill plate. A few times when I remove the hook from the side or top of the fish, I draw blood or I drew blood with some scales removed. They seem to swim away ok, but how much damage did I just inflict on the fish and will it make it?
  18. Can you provide us wih more info as to how, when and where you're fishing them? Let us know what kind of jig you're using in these situaltions. Maybe we can figure out what or if you're doing something wrong or perhaps maybe there is an alternative jig you should be using?
  19. Grundle, there already appears to be more non-boaters than boaters. All I'll be doing is adding to the problem.
  20. So grim & Catt, Hypothetically, you're fishing a topwater and had a fish boil over it, you throw back and same thing, just a boil or nothing for that matter, you wouldn't switch to a soft plastic or some other follow-up lure?
  21. It really depends on the mold/manufacturer, but 1/4oz = 3/0, 3/8oz = 4/0 and 1/2oz = 5/0. This is typically what I see and have used. What particular mold are you working with?
  22. I fianlly got out for about 2.5 hours today after the rain let up and I finally put together a topwater day. 5 LMB with 1 right at the 3 lbs mark. They were active for sure today. I wish I could have stayed a bit longer!
  23. Man, I used to fish those lakes when my buddy lived in Salem back in the late 90's early part of 2000's. I can't tell you how much I miss fishing them. When are you planning on going?
