  1. Thanks guys, I'll be checking those spots out. Gramps, is Lake Williams open to fish? I thought it was posted as a no trespass zone by the town/city whatever it is?
  2. The lures I got were packaged as "Excalibur". jdw174 is correct in that the FFS is manufactured by Bomber just like the Spit'n Image is manufactured by Heddon, but back in the day they were both manufactured by "Excalibur". Never the less, great deals indeed!
  3. Wow, I think you wrote this as my son and I came back from DSG. I picked up a couple of Fat Free Guppys and a couple of Spit'n Images. I just saw the thread, man, what are the odds!
  4. NoBassPro gave you some really good advice for starting out on spinnerbait fishing IMO. For now I would keep it really simple. As far as blade colors, shapes and quantities of them: As a guilde, you can start with the basics. Color: Nickel/Siver = Clear water and clear skies. Gold/Brass = Stained - murky water and/or overcast skies. Painted blades work well in clear water situations with overcast skies, but for now I would keep it simple and use the metal blades. Shape: Willow Blades = Clear water and clear skies. Colorado = Stained - murky water and/or overcast skies How many?: I personally like single blade spinnerbaits, but double blade baits seem to be the norm. I think it's a personal preference, so you be the judge.
  5. I'm starting a new project up in Marlboro - Solomon Pond Mall area - and would like to know of any small ponds with a decent fish population near by. I would like to do some bank fishing after work from time to time. Any help would be most appreciative. Thanks.
  6. Helicoptering a short arm spinnerbait down...deadly! Good luck!
  7. Topwaters! I suck with self control when it comes to topwaters!
  8. Hit Houghtons for a few hours in the afternoon. Shim E Sticks was the ticket with one coming off of an inline spinner believe it or not. Nothing on tubes, jigs or spinnerbaits. The water was too choppy for a topwater bite. The bite is still not aggressive and you really had to be patient before you set the hook. I watched a fish swim with my soft stick for 100 ft by the tail and I never had the chance to set the hook as he never had the hook in his mouth. The spinner bite was a light thump and kill the retrieve which turned out like a soft plastic bite where you just saw your line move. I'm heading to Buckmaster's on Monday to see if I can scare something up there.
  9. You're right Rondo isn't a superstar. If memory serves me correctly, he made the All Star team because another player got hurt. KG, Paul Pierce and Ray Allen were superstars in their day, but no more. D-Wade and LeBron = Superstars. I can understand why you would want Rondo, instead of D-Wade and LeBron scoring 70 points a night, they could score 100 points if Rondo was dishing the rock to them. As far as you doing your homework, poor choice of words on my part, my apologies. I do appreciate the dialog though, it certainly keeps the games interesting from both city's perpesctive. Good luck in Game 7. Should the Heat win, I will route for them in the finals. As A C's fan, I would rather lose to the eventual champs, even though OKC has Perk playing for them.
  10. You need to do your homework. Ray Allen shouldn't really be playing right now just like Bosh and my best guess is Paul Pierce will be under the knife for his knee right after the season is over. You have 2 healthy superstars to 1.
  11. I managed to get out today for a few hours and ended up with 3 bass and 1 pickerl all on topwater. I tried jigs and tubes and got 1 half hearted bite. The topwater bites were pretty viscious, but the jig and tube bites lately have been tail bites. I didn't take water temps, but it felt like mid-low sixties and I did see some beds, not a lot though.
  12. Oh crap, that was your trailer I hit! J/K, I hope all turns out well for you JF!
  13. Let's just say that when I leave for the day someone would ask what I'm doing after work: "I'm going to take the dog for a walk". Their response is always: "oh, what's your dog's name?"..."Zara" or "Rapala" or "Sammy", depending on which I plan to use.
  14. Just tried out those #4 short shank. All I have to say is: Great tip guys!
  15. It is a large blade, but you can check out the Magnum Willows they have. Same shape and you can get them smaller, just a different crease. I'll PM you the link. As far as a #6 on a 1/2 oz: I use a #6 colorado on a half oz for after ice out. It really slows a bait down, problem is, you look like you were jack hammering the road all day...LOL...what a thump it produces.
  16. You were on them that's for sure. I'm with smalljaw, sometimes just a slight adhustment with spinnerbaits is all it takes. I usually speed my retrieve up on short strikers and if that doesn't work I switch the blades. It may be a gold for a nickel or vice versa or I may drop down a size or upsize the blade. One of those variations usually will get them to strike.
  17. LMAO, I was thinking the same thing! I will certainly remember that Lund. You've posted some really informative tips from your past experiences. Thanks for sharing that.
  18. kLuo, you're killing me...ROFL...but you make a valid point my friend. Thanks for the participation here, much appreciative.
  19. I can’t disagree with you, Lund and Klua, with just a color change of the same lure provoked strikes. I have never had that happened to me so I can’t dispute it. My personal experiences from those fish that followed and were provoked into striking were by speed changes. I’m not totally disregarding color at all. I do think it plays some roll into at least getting a fish interested in the lure. It may be just one color of a multi-colored lure that excited that fish in the first place and I do agree that a fish and see the sides as well as the bottom. As Revo mentions in his post, stick baits – walking type baits – do roll and, in my opinion, fish can see the top as well. Chugging baits, a fish can see all sides as the bait sits down in the water at a 45* angle or better and fish can see a buzzbait, probably the best as the body is completely submerged in water. Put on a multi-colored paint job on them and a bass will more than likely respond to at least one color. Again, just my opinion. It sounds like that we’re all in agreement that color has no impact at night, just as long as a fish can see the silhouette of the lure. I guess you would have to treat topwaters like any other lure: Make it visible and make it work to look realistic.
  20. Glad to see to got out there gramps.
  21. During the spring and fall I concentrate on the first weedline closest from the shore. This could be inside during the spawn or outside the weedline after the spawn. By summer the shoreline would either be pounded to death or just too darn hot to hold anything appreciable. Here I concentrate on the second weedline. This could be near or on a hump or near a channel and so on. Here I look for structure as well. It could be a rock, stump or just a change in contours or even a different vegetation make-up. In all cases, my lure selection is the same as a boat fisherman.
  22. Right now I suffer an OCD with Skitter Walks.
  23. Glad to have you with us!
  24. Congrats Red! I wish nothing but the best of luck to you and your wife with your new home! Glad to have ya back, Bud!
  25. I'm undecided if colors really make a difference when it comes to topwaters...During the day, in any water or light condition. At night, I think a dark color is the only way to go, but I will qualify this statement. I don't fish much at night and if I do, I always use a black topwater and have not used any other color. Your thoughts?
