  1. That has to be the nicest gesture I've seen on here, thank you Traveler2586...her name is Laura B
  2. Good deal, glad it all went well for you!
  3. Thanks all, I really appreciate all the support. Thanks a million for your help and offer JF. ~ John
  4. I just learned that my sister has breast cancer...she's 48. My thoughts are with you sis!
  5. Good luck Bud!
  6. Fronts can be tough, no doubt about it. Bass aren't actively feeding, and the strike zone shrinks. Some areas to look at: If they were near a bush they would be in the middle of it, if the were on a main lake point they may have moved back and suspended in deeper water, if they were on a flat they may have moved to a creek channel or the nearest drop and if they were on the edge of a main lake channel they may drop right in it. So maybe check some of those areas and if your lures aren't working maybe downsizing your offering may help.
  7. Denny Brauer fan here. I've read both his books, Winning Tournament Tactics and Jig Fishing Secrets. Winning Tournament Tactics has chapters covering seasonal bass location, weather conditions, water conditions, cover and structure, lure selection and techniques, to name a few. Jig Fishing Secrets has chapters covering seasonal bass location, weather conditions, water conditions, cover and structure and jig fishing techniques. Both were written back in the '90's but are great reads for $15/book, IMHO.
  8. I don't see a problem with your rig and lure choices.
  9. Nice to have you back!
  10. I agree with raul's post, let the fish tell you what they want and in your case the fish did. You reeled in quickly and got a hit but instead of tying on a faster moving lure you used a slow moving one. If I'm fishing say a spinnerbait, I'll start out slowrolling it. If a fish hits and misses, I throw right back in and reel quicker. 9 times out of 10 that fish is hooked on a quicker retrieve. I've had days where it went the other way and had to adjust slower. You just never know. BTW: SirSnook, great advice!
  11. All good suggestions here, I would like to add that you may want to opt for a rattle to the bass locate your color selection in your dirty Central Kansas waters? Just a thought?
  12. Yep, Super Spook Jr, Bone and Teaser Tail
  13. Bring a milk crate with ya and stand on it while you're taking a dog for a walk, then when the bite shuts down you can use it to sit on while you work a jig slowly...LOL
  14. Not a dumb question at all. IMHO, shorter rods are the way to go with topwater plugs...longer for buzzbaits...you will find more control with a shorter rod and less stress on your wrist. The lure is weighted in the back of the lure so you won't really compromise casting distance or noticable distince. I mostly fish from the bank and I use a 6' rod without problems. I used to use a 5'6 until I snapped it. Try finding a 5'6 baitcasting rod these days...LOL
  15. Sorry to hear about the truck A-Jay and I'm glad you were able to get most of it out! I hope there is nothing serious to your wife's health? All my best to her.
  16. Not sure how to read this post...ROFL Great job Big O!
  17. Check the clevis, the piece the blade hangs on, and see if it was bent in or out. I've had this happen a few times while coming thru cover and the blade would foul up. Just rebend and your good to go.

    He used to be shy...LOL
  19. IDK, ripping a trap thru vegetation is a pretty darn good technique and a spinnerbait and wood...well, that just has a good ring to it. May I suggest something: Work some overtime and get both...LOL
  20. Love that bottom one, not to short change the others because they all look fantastic...Well done! How did you end up tying the skirts if you don't mind me asking?
  21. After reading Denny Brauer's book, I can understand why he designed the SK Denny Brauer Pro Premium jig, that is a nice versatile jig.
  22. Welcome to Bass Resource and the Boston area, Ben! I just read your post over in the Northeast Forums and feel free to ask any questions. We have a great group of peeps here on the site that would welcome any questions you have. I look forward to seeing you around here.
  23. It's the only time I use uncle josh pork. I think that bass will bite down on a pork trailer and will hold onto it longer giving you a little edge in cold water.
  24. I think of guide wraps as accomplishing 2 things: 1. The thread provides color and decoration to the rod. 2. The thread provides reinforcement to the epoxy. So in the case of providing reinforcement, I tie the guide just tight enough so that I can go back and make any minor tweeks to the guide should I find that it has become out of alignment...So pretty much what Tony M describes. Decorative: I've only done 1 and found that I used pretty much the same tension. Good Luck!
