I was looking at a project in Lawrence and noticed that section of the Merrimack was opened. Not sure about the Charles. The Res along Rte 128 in Waltham had about 75% open water. I know not fishable, but a good sign none the less.

The chains look like they would dig up a lot of vegetation...I guess if you need to dredge a channel in your lake, here you go. I'm not sure I'd spend $6 for a jig either...the buzzbait doesn't look all that bad, IMO.

Actually saw partial open water on Friday. We got a lot of rain today and looking at more rain later in the week and 40* weather...my guess, 3 weeks I can fish somewhere. Thanks for the kind post Derrick!

I got some no lead jig heads from Siebert Outdoors and made these up for spring bassn: Switchblade Jigs:

For me spring and fall is the time I try and locate them on a spinnerbait and then I'll disect the area with something slower like a jig, tube or t-rig. In the Summer, I like to cast a spook type lure as far as I can and walk it fairly quickly until I get a strike. Once I get a bite, I make a mental note as to where the strike happened and I'll follow up with a slower bait to just beyond the area the strike happened. This follow up gives me an idea of a few tings: Water depth they are relating to, cover/structure and if the area is shaded or in sun light. It make not sound like a ton of information, but it's a start to the puzzle for me. A-Jay, I may have to steal a page out of your playbook this year. With your permission of course...LOL

Too funny. Probably my all time favorite movie. More one liners and quotes came out of that movie than I can remember.I find my mind drifting off on bottom baits - jigs, t-rigs, c-rigs etc- than on reaction type baits and believe it or not dog walking baits have me looking around and not paying attention more than anything. Swish, swish, swish is all I hear while looking at different things on the water. But as Carl the groundskeeper would say: "I'd keep playing."
