I have only caught 1 on a senko and it was around 10# and it grabbed it as soon as it hit the water. On the other hand I have caught a bunch using tubes. They really seem to like the tubes.

Do you add scents to things with a skirt like jigs or spinners or just to straight plastics?

Yes it was just a plain hook.

I didn't get a weight or measurement of the cat. It was like a spur of the moment thing and I only had 1 rod and a empty bag of plastics I filled with a few things to use. We all kinda agreed it was like 3' long and 20# or so and was a more then fair estimate. I am not sure on the weight though I have seen people on TV noodle catfish and catch ones they say is 40# and that cat was just as big as the ones on TV or maybe bigger. But the ones I have seen on TV is like a yellow colored cat fish so they might be a much heavier type of fish.

That pond looks nice with a wide array of cover and structure to fish. I would be trying to flip or pitch to the gnarly looking trees and get way in there or bang a square bill off the bigger stumps and logs.

Yea that's the biggest one I have ever personally seen. Usually there like in the 10# range and those are some big catfish but this thing dwarfs those. The edge of the pond is full of those weeds till about 6' out and that is what got stuck to his face just from fighting it in. He said he saw a HUGE catfish in this hole like 1' from shore and messing around just dropped a plain 4/0 EWG with nothing on it in there and the catfish jumped out and grabbed it.

I don't understand why you put a stringer through there lip. You say its not to harm or kill the fish but I have always put it through there mouth and out the gills. Maybe you guys are putting fish on a stringer for another reason then I am? If there is fish on my stringer its future is going to be short lived. It would also seem like if you did decide to release them it would maybe be worse off with a hole in the bottom of it now.

Catfish My brother Caught They are all wusses and I had to climb in the lake and pick it up since there was no other way to get it out. My Brothers PB on Top Water He caught it on a Heddon Torpedo.

I have done pretty good using c-rigged baby brush hogs this year.

Does any one here make there own wooden cranks? I guess that's kinda of a stupid question cause I am sure some of you do, but what I am really getting at is do you make them to sell or personal use only. I have been going to the flea market trying to score some old wood cranks and today i FINELY found some. The only prob is the guy wanted $13-15 a pop for them. To me that kinda defeated the purpose of a flea market since that seemed like paying retail on like a 30 year old plug. If any one makes and wants to sell a few at a reasonable price please contact and maybe we can work something out. BTW I really prefer square bill or shallow running like maybe in the 6" range. The flying lure when I was a kid. But I actually caught fish with it. Thinking about it now I kinda wish I had some just to see if I could maybe catch a bunch of fish with it.

For a reel I think it is hard to beat a Lews Speed Spool for the price or maybe you can find a good deal on a used Curado. Try the Flea Market section of the forums and see what people have.

The micro guides are for improved casting distance or feel?

I am trying to find some swim jigs that are the best for coming through grass and weeds. I'm not as concerned with weeds getting caught on the hook but more so with the getting caught by the line and then bunching up on the head. I know a lot of you guys throw these so maybe you can let me know what ones come through the cleanest for you.

A few weeks ago I had a 8# or so catfish break my drop shot off then about 30 min later my buddy caught it with a blue gill on the other side of the pond. It still had my red drop shot hook in its mouth. It was like about 12-1 in the afternoon when all this happened.

A drop shot and some patience. If its a ruff day I know I can always catch fish with a drop shot.

@Roger I have used like every top water lure imaginable in that pond. It is sooooo hard to get the fish to bite and when I do get a bite its like they don't commit so if you set the hook nothing will be there. I have tried to fish that place multiple times and only once I caught fish and it was 5 of them with 2 of them being 3.5# or so. All the fish came on koppers lures 4 on the hard body walking frog and 1 on the hollow body frog. I have tried throwing frogs on to the scum but for some reason I doubt any thing will hit it out there. You cant walk it so it just gets stuck in a rut and tracks straight back to shore. No matter what time it is there stuff is always hitting the surface little dinks jumping out of the water and the occasional splash of a bigger fish taking something. There is like 1 million frogs there literally its crazy and the amount of dragonflys and bugs is crazy to. The 2 fish I did manage to pull out there that were about 3.5 where not as big as a normal fish that weight would be but the stomach on these things was HUGE they had giant belly's like a DD bass does cause I think they are just gorging them selves on the frogs and what not. I know there is some seriously fat lunkers in there I just don't know how to get them and it is so frustrating. I think with this pond and a little luck I could break my PB and get a DD fish out of there.

I was thinking about getting another reel my self. Would you say a TP is better or worse then comparable reels of the same price?

I for sure dont have a 1 oz jig. Maybe I might have to grab one tomorrow and give it a shot.

I have tried jigs and all kinds of stuff. Nothing makes it through the pond scum, it just lands on top.

I can't always get them but clean but usually I do. As soon as I hit the weeds I rip it and reel in fast so it doesn't fall back in the weeds. Then if i'm reeling and I can feel weeds still on it I give it a little slack then rip it to the side and it usually comes clean you might have to do it more then once though. I think giving it some slack helps cause then the weeds are not pinned down on the hooks from you reeling in.

Does it look like this? There is tons of huge fish in this pond but I can't get through the scum on top. I dont know how to rotate it sorry.
