  1. I think the biggest thing MLF did was figure out how to keep score realtime in a tournament and encourage guys to catch fish the entire time. They've made it a TV friendly tournament, vs watching live, then waiting a few hours for a weigh in to see who won.
  2. The dicks here switched over to a clearance outlet and removed the fishing section. It's mostly exercise and golf clothing.
  3. The old guy can't hear that great, so you've got to shout when talking with him. I think the smell is the 1000 flavors of carp bait for sale. I mapped some of the lake and uploaded my countours navionics chartviewer. Lake Bowen has some good fish, but I'm not that familiar with where the bank access is. I know you can fish at the main landing, but I'm not sure if there is access anywhere else.
  4. Since you're in Duncan, Berry's pond is close. I've never fished from the bank there, but the lake has a lot of good fish. You have to pay to fish off the bank there at the tackle shop, but they just built a free kayak launch next door. If you get a Kayak, you can paddle up the river a ways as well.
  5. Humminbird will exchange your transducer, they all come with the transom mount, but you can mail that in and exchange for a trolling motor transducer. https://www.humminbird.com/support/faqs/TransducerExchange
  6. I'd fish out of the boat some before putting any time and money in it. I had a 14/42 jon boat at one point, and it's fine for sitting, but it was fairly unstable. I live on ~130 acre electric only lake, and have a 15/48 jon boat that I've added a deck extension, lighting, rod holders etc. It's much more stable than the older boat and enables me to stand on the front deck while fishing.
  7. The 5 biggest format guys quit fishing as well. They have an idea of what they need to catch each day, and once they get that they save those fish for another day. T. Horton came back to the dock early and ordered pizza because he knew he had the tournament one. I personally think the biggest thing BPT has done is figure out how to keep score live. It's nice as a viewer to watch the coverage and know the standings. Counting every fish keeps everyone in contention longer in the event vs. largest 5, where 1 big fish can completely change things.
  8. I bought 3 of the group 31's at Sams last month. I don't have a lot of time on the batteries yet, but they seem to be working good, and I've read of a ton of great reviews on.
  9. I bought the 47 rod by Doomsday tackle last year. It's rated from 1/16 to 1/2 oz, it's a 7 ft fast rod. There is a coupon code that will pop up on their site for 15% off, so the rod is ~$120. I use it for small top water baits (tiny torpeedo) and small spinner baits. I've been very impressed with the rod for that price. https://shop.doomsdaytackleco.com/products/the-47-by-doomsday-tackle-co
  10. I don't see a foot pedal switch on the variable speed motors. I see it on the 5 speed motors, but the variable speed look to be wired through the momentary switch. I ordered a new momentary switch and will replace that and see if it solves my problems. I tried to manually turn the prop with no luck.
  11. I recently started having intermittent issues with my trolling motor. When I step on the foot pedal sometimes the motor comes on, other times it doesn't. When the pedal isn't working the continuous switch on the side does not work either. When releasing the motor does work when depressing the pedal, when I lift off the button sometimes to motor shuts off and other times it doesn't. I recently rewired the boat and replaced batteries and breakers. I have voltage at the plug when the motor doesn't work. I'm looking for suggestions on what to look at. The first 2 thoughts looking at the Minn Kota diagram are the momentary switch or the control board in the pedal. It's not clear to me from the schematic what else could be the issue. Any help would be appreciated.
  12. The elite series has their share of dink fest as well, it's just 5 small fish. Look at the weights from Sabine and the AOY championship this year. I think the MLF format rewards guys that can find big fish, and many events come down to quantity vs. quality. I'm curious how the lakes can hold up to 2 days of practice and then 6 tournament days with this format. In 5 fish tournaments guys will leave and to save the spot for the next day, this may not be an option in this format.
  13. What lake are you fishing at? With all the rain we've had recently my lake is a muddy mess. I caught a few on a crankbait 2 weeks ago, but haven't been out recently since it's been raining so much. This time of year when the lake gets cold and muddy, I don't have much luck. I'll still go out some if the weather is nice to get outside, but the fishing is typically terrible. I would recommend either a spinner bait or crankbait and try to cover water if you're in a boat. If you're on the bank work through moving baits then slow down with t-rigged baits if you aren't having luck with the moving bait.
  14. I'm a mechanical engineer.
  15. I bought a refurbished dell off business lease a few years back. Pretty good deal vs. a new computer, and they have a lot of choices available.
  16. There's a guy about an hour from me that runs a similar type shop. I haven't made it down there yet, but his craiglist ads have some good looking gear.
  17. I live in Spartanburg. For kayak fishing, I'd recommend the various hp limited lakes (Blaylock, Robinson) or some of the state park lakes. The Tyger River Foundation is putting in some kayak launch points in the area, so that should open up some more river access. One of the first ones to open will be at Berry's Pond.
  18. I did some mapping on that lake one day and uploaded my contours to Navionics site. I used to fish out there a lot and did pretty well, but it seems construction in the area has made the lake really muddy in the last few year. I had the most luck in the grass and pads before the bridge throwing buzzbaits, frogs and T-rig lizards. I also had good luck on the shady bank near the dam with senkos and jigs. I haven't been out there in a few years though.
  19. I bought one and am a big fan. I fish a bang o lure a lot since it allows me to fish it topwater, and while reeling in. This bait gives a good option to work on top near cover, then fish as a shallow crank in the open water
  20. the academy sports h2o express 7'10' composite cranker is a great deep crank rod and is normally $59, but can occasionally be found on sale for $39.
  21. I always have a spinnerbait tied on. I typically use either a white/chartreuse or a black/blue with 1 willow and 1 Colorado blade. The majority of my good fish this year have been on spinnerbaits.
  22. My boat came with a powerdrive, I never could get used it to. I replaced it with a maxuum last year.
  23. Ike posted on Twitter he was in Japan and missed the tournament.
  24. I wear costa hammerheads.
  25. I'd recommend talking with a college financial aid adviser before setting up any type of long term investments. I believe any money in your name will impact how much financial aid you may get for college.
