  1. Question. I don't know anything about hair jigs so, do you put a trailer on these or just fish them straight up??? I'm looking to do some New River smallmouth fishing in a couple months and I'm starting to do a little research. Are hair jigs only better in winter months or are they also better for the summer months? Thanks, Carlos
  2. All the things you guys said are true but, I actually really like Roland and his show. His son is pretty funny too! ;D
  3. hahahahahahahahaha wtfff this is the most hilarious comment I have ever read here. I could actually picture him and hear him saying it while reading this hahahaha
  4. Spinnerbaits. I just don't get them man. I can slam fish on any other technique except on spinnerbaits.
  5. How is the sensitivity of hybrid lines compared to monofilament lines? What about Fluorocarbon lines? Thanks, Carlos
  6. Hey JD, What Daiwa rod specifically do you use? Thanks, Carlos
  7. www.watchtheoutdoors.com Go to the "Fishing Section" and then Look up Lindner's Fishing Edge. They have probably over 20 sections on their shows that deal with ice fishing. You'll probably learn some really good tips and hints from there!
  8. Cabelas is a top notch store and their customer service is on par with that of any other store.
  9. You can try playing with the size of the hook also in order to get a faster or slower sink rate
  10. I have an Avid. It's a great rod. But, right in your budget, and way cheaper if you can find a sale or go the ebay route, you can get one of the Daiwa Zillions. By far my favorite rods out there. They have so much freaking power yet it feels as if you are holding a cloud. The reel seat is amazing as well and gives you the benefit of an exposed blank for more feel and sensitivity. I have 2 already and the spinning equivalent, the fuego and I am looking at getting at least 2 more ;D. The avid would be my second choice. Carlos
  11. Hey man. I am currently not using any kind of float though I did think about it for a while. I did follow your advice about the tiny crank. I got out the smallest one I had, 1/8th oz. It worked really well for crappie but the bluegill are just not biting for me at this time of the year. As soon as they start biting again, I am going to give the cranks and floats a try!
  12. Hey man, I live in Greensboro NC, but go to school in Chapel Hill so I spend a portion of the year there. I know a lot of good ponds in Greensboro and unless it is cold enough to freeze, most ponds and local neighborhood lakes are pretty good options. If you own a boat, most of the lakes in or around Greensboro stay open even during December, January and February. They do cut their hours short though... During winter time, I have mostly concentrated on Crappie and fished for them 95% of the time. If you can get on them, you can make them bite. When you get them going on an Ultra Light rod, you can have a lot of fun. It's not bass fishing but it is certainly fun. The only day I did go bass fishing I ended up hooking up with a pretty nice fish during my second or third cast. So, if you want to go that way, you can still make them bite. It's just harder of course.
  13. Second this! But only when doing it to keep your bait lower in the water and fishing it fast ;D JK Seriously though. You might as well tie on a slinky. I thought it sucked. It was seriously like tying on a slinky. I just can't get my mind around how much memory it had. I think I only left it on for one or two days before I threw it all away and respooled with Vanish. Yes, that's right. Vanish.
  14. I have no boat and only ever bank fish smaller ponds that never get that deep. So, when you say "deep caught fish", how deep are we talking about? Thank you! Carlos
  15. Don't wanna give away your honey hole I see???? Amazing fish. Simply amazing. I wouldn't want to share any secrets either ;D
  16. Most of my friends know by now---if there is water around, im going to be on it, for at least some portion of time. I would definitely go and bring my rod, ask the locals at the hotel and wait and see what people tell you here. Because it's 90210, they might be really selective as to who gets to fish in what ponds though. I would bring my most versatile rod and plan on fishing at least for an afternoon or so. Lucky man. Have fun and congrats on winning the trip!
  17. WOOO HOOO!!! Thanks for the quick response man. That is perfect. The price also is not bad at all. Carlos
  18. LOL omg how did you get that thing on there. You must be a master at fishing 8-)
  19. I want to buy an STX 20 as I think it is the perfect size. However, the 20 does not have the large power style handle. Does anyone know if you can just swap these out? If they fit the handle insert, I'll just order a spare one from Abu.
  20. Thanks guys, Yes. This fish was completely tore up. He had a sore on the side of his body. The tail as you can see was missing a chunk at the bottom, the one side of his jaw had a chunk missing and his mouth was so red and bloody looking. Poor guy was a warrior lol
  21. Daiwa zillion rods. of all the many rods i have owned, best for the money...
  22. Awesome man. I had no idea you guys had bass of that quality over there. I'll let you know when I'm headed that way hahaha!
  23. While fluorocarbon line will never drag a bait completely down, the line itself will sink into the water. So, by the time you start walking that dog or popping that Pop-r, a lot of the line will be underwater. I personally find this to be a huge pain in the behind. My buzzbaits in particular have simply never worked well with fluorocarbon line. As soon as I started fishing mono again, I noticed a huge decrease in the speed at which I needed to work the bait to get it to stay above the water. I would personally go with braid though. If you have a soft enough rod/tip you likely won't throw any hooks. Plus, I find it way easier to work topwaters with braid. You don't have to move the rod as much to get the lure to jump from side to side because of braid's near zero stretch. The only drawback to braid is that it is so limp, that it will sometimes get caught up on the hooks. This has never really been a big problem for me though.
