When I was in my late teens-early 20s, my brother and I would bring 3 or 4 bags of power worms, tequila sunrise or red shads, some split shot and snelled eagle claw hooks..thats all we needed to pull countless bass from wherever we fished. By the end of the day we absolutely stunk.
yes..it really depends on how often you will use them. The 50 is lighter and easier to palm, but can handle almost anything except for maybe larger swim baits.

My son is only 6 right now. I wouldn't object if he wanted to get into the trades, it's something that is indespensable, as you always need to fix or build something.
