  1. My 10 was on a trick worm(powerpro w/ 17lb flouro leader to skim top of grass) in a 100 acre public lake. My 9.5 was in a 28 acre private lake on fly tackle. #6 popper I broke off a 10+ in a private pond on a jig, 30lb test. I tournament fish mostly but I throw baits the majority of the time that are bigger than average just so I hopefully catch larger than average fish when conditions allow.
  2. Team Allstar 827C - 6'10 heavy/x-fast tip., Shimano Cruxis reel, P-line CX 15lb. At least a 3/8oz tungsten wt if i can get away with it. usually use a 6" shorter leader(12lb P-line CX) than what I think I should use. Always gets me more bites for some reason. Plastic bead and smallest swivel possible.
  3. I am a little under 6' and flip/pitch with 7ft and 6'10"rods for both depending on what/where I am fishing. Rods over 7' I have looked at never feel right.
  4. I use a shakey head on a MH rod with 12 lb test when I cant get bit on anything else in that type of cover.
  5. I think bass do hit the blades more than we know. When I throw a blade I am throwing it certain times of year in places I know there are big bass are in stained water that hit a big SB. Majority of my spinnerbait fish seem to suck in the whole thing. Blades and all. so it seems they might hit the blades alot.
  6. This thread is useless without pics..... Saw 5 or 6 scantily clad ladies on a dock sat. Too many dudes w/ them and shallow water, hindered pursuit. :'(
  7. Unless there is a coldfront a 1/2 or bigger jig or T-rig creature bait. I always use at least a 3/8 oz tungsten weight when the wind is up. If the fish have lockjaw due to weather and spawn I will go to a T-rigged 4-6" senko knockoff w/ a 1/2 oz. tungsten wt and drag it really slow.
  8. 1/2 oz. OL Nelle "brokeback" buzzer. Runs straight, fish stay hooked. 9 times out of 10, I replace the regular skirt w/ a handtied purple, silver, chartruese skirt. Use smokey joe color zoom "the fluke"'s for a trailer. Cant argue w/ results.
  9. With all the rods and flyrods i have, never cleaned the cork. Other than wiping it with a damp cloth if it gets red mud or something sticky on it, which has been rare.
  10. Ordered some stuff on 9th and got it on the 19th. Then open the box to read that half the stuff i ordered was on backorder. Never got an email or anything. PLus they sent the box, that had to be crammed into the mailbox by Post office employee. Also got stuff in the mail around Xmas about everything they had on sale at the store 50 miles from here. Get to the store and they have nothing on sale. Tried online and called the catalog, they played dumb just like the store. So i am only buying from there when I absolutely have to.
  11. one guy i fish with runs a 20ft bullet w/ a souped up Merc225. One of the smoothest ride around at 70+. We have ran as fast as 90. Never scared me or got loose. Just have to start slowing down a good ways from bridges.
  12. When I use braid, it is an absolute must. I throw it in the nastiest places. With the drag kinda tight. Almost like hand to hand combat. Yet you have to be careful to not straighten the hook. So yeah it is sporting. PLus it lasts forever.
  13. I use P-Line CX premiuim for almost everything 8-15lb tests. I do have one rod w/ suffix siege and one with Spiderwire stealth. No line twists, no memory.
  14. What do you have already? and what are you gonna use the rod for? I would go with a 7ft MH or H if you dont already have one. Pflueger trionx2 Team allstarx2 BPS extremex2 Great spinnerbait/buzzbait/DEEP crankbait rod is the 7' MH bps tourney special, I have fished alot of rods and that rod has been the best for those baits.
  15. BPS extreme 6'6 med. or mh action Pflueger Trion rods.... a 6'6 -7 ft med or mh action. Shakespeare alpha Are 3 that come to mind for me at that price. ALot of members think you cant get a good rod for that price but they are wrong. It doesnt take expensive gear, just quality. I use an extreme for drop shotting and it works great. Plus you can use them for shakey heads and other light line techniques.
  16. Old Daiwa Pro-caster X, havent been able to find anymore like it. Didnt want it and got in a deal w/ a buddy for 2 rods i wanted he was selling cheap. All the new procasters are crap compared to these. This one has aluminum frame is as smooth and quiet as a TDZ seriously, just not as pretty and shiny. 15lb P-line premium. Also use a Abu-Garcia 2005LP, decent, simple reel for the price. I dont like it, But it works no more than i use it for the purpose. It was free. Use 50lb spiderwire stealth on it.
  17. I fish stained to muddy water almost exclusively. If i cant get bit on anything else I throw a shakey head. But unlike others, I fish a 1/4 bite-me jig almost everywhere,Brush piles, stumps, docks, riprap almost like a jig. I use red bug, sometimes junebug-red before the water gets to 60-65 degrees. Shad spawn a margarita color worm. Rest of the time its black or green pumpkin. I use Zoom trick worm, more subtle/smaller baits I use Zoom finesse worms, and When its kind middle of the road I like a NetBait finesse worm. I use P-line CX 12lb on a MH spinning rod. Agree with Senko77 about the hopping, Works much better than dragging in muddy water.
  18. I feel sorry for a fish Biologist that cant tell a male from female.... Sexual Dimorphism(sp?) i believe it is called, female is much larger than male. Its the same with many other animals. Alot of birds i know for sure. Also, the female, fans the bed out and lays eggs and leaves basically. The male then fertlizes the eggs and guards them until they are a certain size. So only fishing for males contributes more predation than catching females. Really what we see/catch is just a small sample of the fish spawning. Most of the fish that are spawning shallow are smaller fish. The bigger females lay their eggs in deeper water. So bedfishing isnt much of a threat to bass reproduction. Alot of fish spawn more than once a year also. The big females are never sitting there defending the eggs, it just doesnt happen like that. Most males are not big enough on average to worry about weighing in. So dont worry what the fish-huggers on here tell you. So no worries. Spawning fish may be shallow, but they are not easy to catch....
  19. I was called a M.Fer and a racist this and that among other things from across the lake for releasing a 4 lb fish. Doesnt matter, Its free food i guess. I have a cousin that i dont fish with anymore that keeps everything no matter what it is or how big it is, just to keep it. I dont think some people's brains develop all the way...leaves them with a primate or rodent-like hoarding instinct.
  20. Thanks to trespassing/ littering bank fishermen, I can no longer fish one of my favorite large ponds. The absentee owner of the land has re-posted everything and changed the locks. No one that had permission gets to fish anymore. FOund out this morning the group that was cutting fences and such had left a large amount of trash. Prollie same crowd that became verbally abusive and racists with me because they saw me release a few good bass and saw me let a 4lber he went even more nuts from the other side of a 18 acre pond. We even put trashcans where they were fishing, and they didnt use them and eventually stole them. From now on if i have permission to fish, I am gonna be an A-hole if the people aint supposed to be there....
  21. Some of the Bass Pro Shops XPS swimbaits I ordered came in today. They are well made with good hardware. Good plastic and pretty sturdy. Tail looks good in the water. Doesnt take muuch to throw or work it. Will post more when I fish them somewhere with fish big enough to eat it. Great lure for $4.99
  22. I probably shouldnt say anything else in this thread. Last time I disagreed was told I was wrong like this,I got a warning from a mod, even though some other person was "stirring things up." Kinda like Catt is doing now. The #'s are in the friggin bassmaster mag. exactly like i posted.
  23. All I use is CX Premium, CXX has way too much memory for my liking.
  24. I think shad would be a great addition. I would buy some. I was thinking about finding some threadfin looking swimbaits for a lake here. It a highly pressured, power plant lake that has no shad die off due to weather. I have actually caught a threadfin in a cast net that was as big as my hand. And i have seen monster gizzard shad here. Hint, hint matt..... high quality Big gizzard and threadfin shad swimbaits will sell in mid-west and especially the south.
  25. They may have made it in the past....I swear the marina/tackleshop where i do business has some on the shelf in the old black, silver boxes. It has been there two years at least, because it was there the summer i worked there 2 years ago.
