  1. I have a Champion 703 and and two Champion Extremes (743 and 744). That said. My next Dobyns will be a Champion. I like them just as much and the sensitivity isnt that much different. Cosmetically the Champion Extremes are better looking but Im out there to catch fish not to be pretty.
  2. Has anyone on here done the "no hassle warranty " ? If so, what was your experience with the process and how long did it take? Im having problems with mine and would like to know what everyone has to say before I go off and vent.
  3. I have a 45lb bow mount on my 1436 as well as a 55lb transom mount on the back. Its plenty. I can go 13hrs straight with no problems. I take mine out to ponds/lakes up to 300acres that are electric only
  4. Just one of those bait monkey type deals. Might try to use it as a weightless t-rig, shakey head and lightweight texas rigged plastics setup.
  5. Just ordered a Dobyns champion 703sf with a Stradic Cl42500. Kind of bought it on a whim. This will be my first spinning rod. What all will it be good for?
  6. Yeah been noticing that. Was debating on running flouro again without the braid.
  7. I have been the 852 for some time now with a flouro leader and so far have no complaints.
  8. As of now I am using the following for my basic three. Thinking about adding a avs68mxf/stradic combo for finnesse just unsure as of now. Dont like the idea of a big bass in a stump flat on lighter tackle. Anything yall would do different? Dobyns DX743 w/200e7 spooled with 50lb Suffix 852 / 12lb flouro leader - Small texas rigged plastics (baby brush hogs, u-tails, curly tails etc on 1/8-5/16oz bullet weights, weightless t-rigged trick worms, lizards and flukes. Dobyns DX744 w/200e7 spooled with 50lb Suffix 852 / 15lb flouro leader- All jig duties and larger texas rigged plastics up to 3/4oz. As well as rage shads and toads. St. Croix AVC66MF w/revo stx spooled with 12lb P-line CX - mainly topwater, some light/shallow cranks, smalls traps, and occasional spinnerbaits/buzzbaits up to 3/8oz.
  9. Been using a avc66mf with 15lb cx with no complaints. Has a soft tip which works great with trebles.
  10. Been looking at either a casting setup or spinning for throwing super flukes and other weightless texas rigged soft plastics such as trick worms, finnesse worms etc.As well as a few 1/8-3/16oz weighted t-rigs like 4"-5" lizards and u-tales. Possibly dropshoting in shallow water around wood but thats not a necessity. The 702c will be matched with a 50e and not too sure on the spinning outfit (Never owned one). Whats yalls advice?
  11. I have some places like that around my house where I can only catch them on a weightless zoom finnesse worm. I also agree with the pond being out of balance.
  12. Pretty much yall do! Noone I know bass fishes. I have a competitive nature and I always look for new information and techniques to try to be better.
  13. I took up bass fishing the last three years mainly because I got intrigued by the skills it takes to consistently catch good bass. I am not great by no means but I am confident that I can go out to the places I fish and catch a 5lber or so each trip either on a t-rig, jig or topwater ( I dont throw moving baits much) . My question is what about those fish outside of my comfort zone of 12 ft and less? Where I fish there is ALOT of wooded structurs in depths of 15ft to 25ft. I will fish up 12-14ft occasionally on a summerged bus and fallen timber but doesnt seem natural. What do yall do in the deeper waters around structure? Do many bass hang around these places like they do shallower places? Any techniques or tips will be appreciated.
  14. Seems that I can not make up my mind and need yalls input. I just purchased a DX744 and took it out for a test run last week in 20mph winds with a 3/16 t-rigged plastic. Needless to say I was very impressed in the sensitivity and quality. Landed about 20 bass and one that went 9.28lbs. Only thing I cant get over is the length. May sell it idk yet. I am getting ready to order more and need some advice. I am debating on getting a dx703 because of the extra fast tip because I hear of the added sensitivity. I will probably dedicate the rod for 1/8 - 5/16oz bullets for t-rigged baits, weightless worms and light jigs . How much difference will I see with the extra fast tip? What are some of the drawbacks? I am looking at purchasing the dx704 for jigs as well as t-rigs 3/8oz and up. Other than a flipping / pitching rig I hope to have all I need for bottom contact baits. Give me your opinions and suggestions.
  15. I am looking to replace my current worm/jig rods and was looking at the Dobyns DX703c and 704. I fish alot of 3/16-1/2 bullets and 3/8-1/2 ounce jigs. Would I be screwing myself into going with the 704 over the 703. How does the 704 fish the lighter baits? I fish moderate cover and normally throw 12lb cx on Trigs and 15lb Flouro on jigs. Also, how will the rod balance out with a STX?
  16. For the past few years I have limited myself to only fishing jigs, t-rigs,c-rigs, topwater and weightless worms. Occasionally I will throw a wake bait or a very shallow running crankbait or spinnerbait but not much. I mainly have been sticking with bottom baits. Just dont care for moving lures too much. My question is. How many bass am I missing out on by not expanding myself to different lures and presentations?
  17. I am in the market for four new rods. I am looking to spend around $800 or so on the rods and the same for three reels (I already have a STX and Chronarch). I need rods for t-rig, jig, topwater, and something for wieghtless worms/flukes. Possibly a frog/slop rod if funds allow. T-rigs I throw are usually 3/16-1/4, jigs stay in the 3/8 range, and topwaters around 1/4-3/8. On the weightless I tend to use alot of unwieghted Zoom finesse, Trick Worms and a few flukes. I have been using Cumaras the lastt few yrs and have not been impressed. Seem to break too often. Well guys let me know what you suggest. Any help will be appreciated.
  18. Well guys I bought 1436 Waco Jon Boat (1836 model) with 18" sides from one of Dad's friends. Boat is basically new and came with a new galvanized trailer, two new 45lb Endura Trolling motors, two new swivel seats, two new deep cycle batteries and trickle charger for $750. Was a no brainer for me. Gonna start modding her soon.
  19. Ok well I am goin back and fourth between the two right now. I am looking at either another Hobie (mine was stolen) or get a WS Commander 120 vs. a Jon Boat. Good things about the Hobie is the hands free fishing but one of my favorite fishing places is covered up in grass mats and vegetation and thats a week point of the Mirage drive whereas the Commander 120 would be able to glide right over them. If I go with the Commander 120 I will add a trolling motor to the back to assist in the longer hauls to make up for not goin with the hobie. Jon boat on the other hand would be louder in the water than the Kayaks and would more than likely require me to use a trailer instead of just throwing it in the bed of my pickup if I go bigger than a 12ft. I mainly fish areas that are from 2 acres to 100 acres in size along with the public lake right by my house on occasion. I really like the stability of the Hobie PA and WS commander versus what I keep reading on the 1236 and 1436 jon boats. Bad point is that if I get the yak over the jon is that I will be flying solo on fishing trips other than having a buddy go along. Which sometimes isnt a bad thing. What would yall do and why?
  20. The trolling motor, batteries and seats were purchased last month when we were at BP. He has ran into some financial problems and has to sell it. I just hope it isnt a waist and isnt hard to fish from. Really would like another Hobie but cant afford that right now
  21. A buddy of mine has a Alumacraft 10' Jon Boat with Minn Kota transom mount trolling motor, batteries and two clamp on seats. Trolling motor, batteries and seats are brand new and the boat is in good shape. He wants $150 for the setup. Is this a decent deal? I fish ponds 50 acres and smaller (mostly 2-10 acres without boat ramps) and was actually looking for a 12-14' but ran up on this. Kind of afraid to fish in the 10' because I am 6'2" 220lbs. I had been using a Hobie Pro Angler until it was stolen last week. What do yall think? Yes or No?
  22. I am planning on becoming more versitile and efficient. I am looking to purchase up to four more rods and three more reels. I really would like to have a dedicated frog rod that I might could use for flipping as well. A rod for topwater poppers and spooks. Of course a really good texas rig/jig rod is a must. And last but not least something that will work on cranks and spinnerbaits. I would like to get the best trig/jig rod I can afford. I have limited space since I fish from a kayak and carry two fly rods everywhere I go as well. My budget is going to be anywhere around $1500. I say only three reels because I have a spare STX laying around to utilize on one of the rods. Any help would be greatly appreciated because I have spent countless hours on TW switching items up in my shopping cart.
  23. I understand to point. I have 5 crucials, 2 IMX's and a couple Carrott Stix. Fished with them for a few years and have yet to any problems out of them. BP said they get alot of Cumaras returned every week.
