  1. I make my own and in Spring I like using a white/black skirt and a double willow blade (one real small and one pretty big (#6, i think)) on a 1/2oz head. I use a pretty heavy trailer, either a salt craw or a GY craw or a Wave crawdude. Then add a trailer hook. The Kansas bass love the white/black combo skirt in spring, I guess it mimics shad pretty well. I fish a small pond in town and when using either this or an all white skirt, I often see shad following it to the bank. They sometimes bump it which really feels strange. The reason I use heavy is because it's ALWAYS really windy here in springtime.

  3. Not sure how you resolve this. I'd take a look at my point system to try and have tie breakers during the season if that would work. The club I fish with has a (paper) system of giving points for each fish caught being worth xx points, then the total of those determine the winner, second, third place. Each tourn is worth 25 pts to the winner and goes down one point to the last guy catching any qualifying fish. Anyone who catches no fish gets 10 pts for showing up. We rarely have a tie at the end of the season but if we do then the highest fish points (i.e. weight) is determined the angler of the year. I don't think it would be possible to have two guys catch the same weight for a year and end up with the same tourn points also. Back to your problem, you could have a shootout if you have time. From your post, it looks like 6 kids are tied. Have them fish for individual points for some amount of time, the top two or however many you can take to State would be the qualifiers. Hope this helps. If you are interested in learning more about our scoring system, send me a PM and we'll work something out to help.

  7. I almost always use trailers and trlr hooks. I tend to go for a large profile so I use some kind of craw. Usually a Larew salt craw or a Wave crawdude. I will sometimes use a swim type trlr: a zoom fluke or a Luck-E-Strike swim bait. I don't know that the fish prefer them, but I do. Being in Kansas where the wind blows ALL THE TIME, I like the extra weight of the trailer and the trlr hook can't hurt. Just my 2c worth.
  8. Thanks for the update. (And the email!)
  9. Plano makes a crankbait box that keeps the hooks separated. They come in two or three sizes. They're not too expensive. You can sometimes find them at Walmart. Also at Dick's, Cabelas, etc.
  10. Winfield Bass Club is always looking for members. $20 membership and $20 per tourn. We fish every other Sat from Apr-Oct. My # is 620-441-8754. You can call me for more info or give me your email add and I'll email you a sched. Look forward to hearing from you. Al
  11. Nice vid!!!!
  12. When buying the heads shown in the pic on the Janns site Blue posted earlier, I like to connect the hook eye direct to the blade without the use of a split ring. Gives a great vibration.
  13. OK, I feel sorry for you guys in the KC area having that great big lake to have so many people visiting. Down south here, we have mostly the 50-150 acre lakes that, when ten boats are there, it makes the fishing more like riding a merry-go-round. The GOOD thing is, all the State fishing lakes are "no wake". If we choose to go to Winfield city lake, it's about 800 acres and you get your 9 million+ jet skiers doin their thang. AIN'T FISHIN' FUN??????????????
  14. There's a site called "Angling Technologies" that has really good map representations of lakes. Also, Fishidy has good maps. They both have a membership fee but I guess if you need a map, you need a map. Don't remember how much Fishidy is but AT is $15. You could go on their website and check it out. They both have apps, I think.
  15. The closest Academy to me is Wichita (about 60 Mi to the store). It's hard for me to get there often but I check them out just about every time I go. I love finding the H2O at less than the normal $2.99. Most of the pegs are empty but I can usually find one or two. I even bought some of the key chains at Christmas time and put hooks on them. Even put rattles in some. Great little shallow cranks. On the other hand I recently saw a "Johnny Rat Wake Bait" from Tackle Warehouse for a whopping $134.99. THAT'S CRAZY, RIGHT THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!
  16. The Winfield Bass Club, a non-affiliated, local lakes bass club, will hold its' first meeting on April 3d, 2014 at Irving School in Winfield, Ks at 7 PM. Anyone interested in fishing with the club, please attend the meeting or PM me for details. The club fishes mostly county lakes in south Ks. The schedule is usually every other Sat from April till Oct. Each event is $20 and the membership fee is $20. As I stated above, PM if you'd like more details. Thanks for reading, Al
  17. How about posting the results here instead of messaging him? It would be interesting to know if Grand is warming up yet. Thanks.
  18. Welcome, Matt. This forum is the best for learning and getting to know bass fishin inside out. Have a GREAT time fishin the small ponds and LOZ.
  19. Craziest thing I've seen was a coyote chase a deer into the water. I'm on my boat and heard a loud splash behind me, turnaround to see a deer swimming and a coyote standing on the bank with his tongue hanging out. Scared me!!!! Wish I had had the presence of mind to take a pic. No snakes, though.
  20. Wow, the seat change really improved the look of the boat. Great job. Must have been a hassle to get the original seat out.
  21. Welcome! Some nice folks on here to share info.

    Not Again!

I was in Cabela's in Wichita yesterday and found a "clearance" section. Never saw it before but they had some DT14s and a bunch of other stuff with some pretty nice prices. I fought the bait monkey off though. They aso had some rods (Cabela's brand) regular $65 for $35.
