  1. yes they come off after I hook them. Last Sunday I hooked 5 and lost 2 . Thats pretty much what happend the time before also. I'll try crossing their eyes next time I set the hook. It could be to much line stretch. those hooks look good, Would be harder to throw. l ready to go experiment now! Thanks!
  2. YES , I'm using jigging spoons. BPS XPS models. I can mark fish about 20-30 feet down . Water temp is 94. I never would have quessed they would be in that hot of water. I'll try a med. action rod and mono . Thanks
  3. Hi all, I rarely lose a fish but when it comes to vertical jigging my percentage of fish that come off it higher. Is this just something that I will have to deal with or are there ways to help this out. I have increased my treble hook size and I think that has helped. Thanks
  4. Thanks for the replies. This lake is in NC. I'm hoping it will make summer fishing better . Water would get close to 90deg.
  5. Hi all. The reservoir I fish has a hot water discharge. This time last year the bass were already on the beds. Warm water. In the summer it used to get hot! Well , Duke Power has added chillers now and the water is much , much cooler . bass just now moving up. do you think this change will make it a better lake for fishing? Its more like a normal lake now.
  6. Thanks five fish . I'm thinking now along the lines of a big spinner with a big colorado blade. The warm water is nice . When the wind blows off the water it can warm you up. Theres a big light at the discharge and i've been killing the crappie just to fill up the freezer. But I need a big Bass!
  7. It does get cold. By the time I get off work and get on the lake I've got about one hour of day light this time of the year to fish. One nice thing is the hot water discharge produces water temps in the 60s. Maybe I should throw a buzzbait or rattle trap.
  8. Is it possible to catch bass deep in the winter at night using a drop shot rig?
  9. I'm getting better at using and understanding how my fishfinder works but locating creek channels is another story. If I'm reading my manual correctly my sonar picks up the highest section of land so how is it ever going to see into the channel? If the channel is 5ft across and 5ft deep for instance and its 20 feet down the beam is only going to pick up the top , right? hope this makes sense. The lake is over 30 years old so the creeks might be silted in and hard to locate. Also would the creeks be where there is water flowing into the lake or can these form by underwater currents?

  11. I fish a powerplant lake . The water at the discharge can get as hot as 95 so I have to travel to the other end to get any shallow bites. I've heard a saying that most of the fish will be in 10% of the lake. I believe this to be true on this lake because that's were most of the tournament fisherman go. Most fish deep on points . 20 to 30 ft. This is a clear lake and most of the structure is gone. Now that I have learned to use my electronics more I have located brush piles on the points. Takes patients but it's worth it.
  12. This time of year where I live on overcast days the shad will come up and boil the surface I assume being chased by bass. I've had good luck throwing a big fin x fluke right in the middle of them and letting it fall. I've seen black balls on my fish finder but they move around so much its hard to fish.
  13. Thanks for the info. This hump has access to shallow water. I believe it was a long underwater point that has partly eroded away.
  14. This lake is deep and clear. 100ft in some areas. I use a garmin 250 with the sensitivity on 90. I've found a hump in about 15 ft of water with big drop offs on on 3 sides. I've never caught anything off it. I'm hoping its just because it has no cover. I'm going to load it up with cover.
  15. Thanks for the advice. This lake is very clear and I can't locate a thermocline in the summer. I don't really know how deep to put them but I thought I would just experiment.
