  1. This^^ I don't care much for Rooster Tails. I mean, I know they can catch fish, but as the OP said, waaay too many blade hang ups. Panther Martins rock! I just posted the same thing in a Smallmouth Bass thread. I've caught more SM on a Panther Martin in small rivers and creeks than any other lure combined.
  2. THIS! With a 3 year old in dance, wife, super busy work schedule, family functions, etc... just getting a little time on the water is a success. It doesn't even matter if I don't catch much. I just miss being out there alot. I remember the summers in high school and right after, I would be fishing nearly all day, around six days a week. Some good times there!
  3. I carry a few different inline spinners if all else fails. They almost ALWAYS catch something. It's definitely a goto lure for me. Mepps, Rooster Tail, Panther Martin, etc... Fyi, Panther Martin is by far my personal favorite. Rooster Tails are alright but the blade seems to get stuck and not spin a LOT more than they should, imo
  4. How do you guys who catch turtles get the hooks out? I've never caught one, but have often wondered this. I suppose if it's a big snapper that might make a difference if you even attempt to get your hook/lure back. Anyone ever catch a big alligator snapper?
  5. Spinnerbaits: War Eagle, .... Plastics: Luck "E" Strike Crankbaits: That's all I have off the top of my head.
  6. I have an old Smithwick Devil's Horse that was my grandpa's. It's with my "retired" lures because I would be too scared to lose it. I use newer ones quite frequently though. Great classic topwater. Love the Horse!
  7. Can someone answer this for me if possible - will other senko-like baits work for this technique? I mean, I know they will probably work if fished right, I guess my question is - are senkos (the real deal) made a special way to give the enticing action, or will any other brands work in place. I ask because I got a pack of Strike King Shim-E-Sticks at Wal-Mart for a low price. Will these work in place of the senko? Thanks!
  8. Can someone set me staight on this: Bomber Square A - Is this discontinued or about to be discontinued. What's the story on this? I inconsistently see them at various Wal-Marts but they don't seem to be on the Bomber website, which I can't understand. I have chrome one from about 8 years ago that is my fav go-to shallow crank. It's chrome with blue and black wavy lines on top. I have since retired that one from duty because it is so beat up. I definitely think that pattern is long gone, but can anyone tell me about the Square A? Thanks
  9. 1. Zoom 2. Berkley Powerbait 3. Luck 'E' Strike Are what I have the most bags of. Then, just a bunch of random brands.
  10. Hi guys, I was looking for some help trying to identify the year this lure was made (or a range at least). It is a yellow Mann's Baby 1- that has the old B.A.S.S. logo on both sides. I'm assuming it was offered as some sort of membership promotion. Anyway, my dad gave it to me and I always thought it was cool looking. I'm 27 and I remember this lure always being in his tackle box, so I'm guessing it's a few years old. Does anyone else have this lure or seen one before? Do you know about when they came out? Thanks!
  11. Check out the website gameandfishmag.com (I think). There you can search for your mag. I think there is a _____ Game and Fish Magazine for nearly every state. For example, I get Missouri Game and Fish Magazine frequently. It has some hunting stuff as well, so there is a good mix of outdoor subjects. It can get a little repetative (really, what mag doesn't though?) but I like it because it covers familiar bodies of water.
  12. It's off Hwy DD between D and 40 (near Busch Wildlife). I just noticed it for the first time on Google Maps. Looks interesting...anyone fish this before?
  13. Thanks for the Meramec info guys. One last question: is there any hope for a shore-fisherman like myself? In other words, can you have success throwing from the shore out?
  14. Not as interesting as some of the others here, but fishing this past Saturday, I thought I had a bite while reeling in a shallow crank. I ended up pulling out a wad of line with a Wiggle Wart lodged in my treble hooks. It was in good condition too...another to add to my supply
  15. One of my best experiences fishing for smallies was on a camping trip with family up in Wisconsin on Lake Michigan. I really wasn't expecting to have any luck since I was on a pier with a bunch of other people who didn't seem to be catching anything. I was just slowly jigging a Texas-rigged green-flecked tube. Caught two nice ones, one of which was especially nice. Actually, if I can figure out how to scan this pic I'd like to post it and get your estimations on weight. I didn't have a scale then and I'm not the best at eyeballing it. I guess I would say that has been my favorite since then
  16. Hey, I fish the Meremac on weeknights as well. Best local fishing there is IMO. Baldwin is plenty big. In fact, it is so big, that if the winds are too strong, they say it can be dangerous to put a boat in. I haven't experienced that yet, but I believe them. I have always wanted to try the Meramec but never have. If I can ask, what kind of lures/techniques do you guys use and how well have you done there? Oh yes, where on the meramec do you fish...more towards Eureka or more towards Fenton? Thanks fellas.
  17. I70 and mid rivers...right off of mexico by spencer...smalll world Ha, it is a small world. I grew up on Mid Rivers and Hwy N and now I live a minute or two from Mexico and Bryan Rd.
  18. Got one here. I live in Dardenne Prairie (O'Fallon) in St. Charles County.
  19. Hello there fellow Missourian. I also just joined
  20. Hey there! I've known about this site for awhile and decided to sign up when I was really bored and thinking about finshing today at work I live in O'Fallon, Missouri which is a 'burb of St. Louis. Like everyone else on this site, I LOVE fishing!!! I fish the local lakes because they are convenient by I really enjoy the larger ones such as LOZ. It's not bass, but I also frequent Bennett Springs once a year with a few buddies. My choice lure: the good 'ol fashioned, time-tested, proven, never to be underestimated, Texas-rigged worm 8-) I have had the most luck with that one. It really doesn't matter though, as long as I'm on the water, you know? Good to be here!
