  1. Well I couldn't get free to go fishing this last weekend so I'll try and wiggle in a few hours for fishing this coming weekend. Thanks for note on Long Branch having small bass maybe I'll just go hit a small conservation area lake instead.
  2. I've never really fished either of these lakes but I'm thinking I may head up to one or the other last minute this Saturday. However I've been watching the MDC fishing reports and for the last two months every week it's always been the same for both lakes, High, Dingy and all species slow. I was wondering if anyone lived up in that area or if anyone has fished either of those lakes recently could tell me the status of either of the lakes. In addition if I understand correctly both lakes have hybrid bass but I've never fished for them before, if someone who fishes these lakes could tell me how to locate them; I'd be most thankful.
  3. I've seen those, I'll look at them thanks. I don't mind spending the money on a few swimbaits and I certainly don't mind used, I just don't want them to fall apart after half a dozen fish if I'm spending that kind of money on them. Thanks I will look into those. I hear that, big shad, bluegill and maybe carp are patterns are what I'm looking at. Awesome information so far, thanks guys.
  4. I'm completely new to swimbaits; never used one. I was browsing BassPro the other day and needless to say I was kind of overwhelmed. I have no idea were to start. Hard bait or soft? Pre-rigged? It was tempting to just buy one of those $25 deals but after researching them it sounds like the break after less then a dozen fish; and I can't afford to be replacing them at that rate. So if I could get some help here it would be greatly appreciated.
  5. Carp? Really? I never knew they did such a thing.. learn something new everyday I suppose. Thanks, I dunno why it was driving me crazy like that.
  6. I didn't have a camera with me cause that's when I always manage to catch a big fish but anyway; Tuesday I was fishing Sugar Creek Lake north of Moberly Missouri with my uncle and along with schools of shad there were some fish we couldn't identify jumping completely out of the water. They were brown almost like smallmouth but as far as I'm aware smallmouth aren't stocked in that lake, the lake some walleye but I've never heard of walleye jumping like that. We were back in a long but narrow cove and the fish looked to be of decent size but we couldn't catch any.. anyone have any ideas? Just curious...
  7. My biggest crappie I think came on a 3 inch repala fire tiger minnow bait but the majority of crappie I catch come on just about any variation of white roostertail I can find to throw.
  8. Depending on what type of water I'm fishing I either just tight line on the bottom with about eighteen-twenty inches of line between the sinker and the hook or use some sort of float or bobber.
  9. That's what I thought and I was afraid of that. I was hoping to find someplace within an hour or so but I guess I'll have to make a few more trips south of the river then I planned this year. Thanks for the help.
  10. Obviously my first choice is to go fish the Gasconade river or Stocken or Table Rock Lake but those are really more of a multiple day fishing trip because of my location. I've done a good bit of research on this subject and I'm left with no answers so I thought I'd ask here, is there anywhere to fish for Smallmouth Bass north of the Missouri river? I'm starting to believe there isn't. > Any information, good or bad is most welcome. Thanks!
  11. Found this site awhile ago so I figured I'd register and say hi. Been fishing in Missouri for as long as I can remember (25 years). I mostly fish MDC areas either from a float tube or a jon boat with my uncle and/or cousins. I hope to absorb enough knowledge from this site to break my PB 6 1/2lb largemouth this year... : Great site!
