  1. Should be fine. I''m using a Crucial Swimbait or a Dobyn's Swimbait. Both are fast and both are more than adequate. You might find, however, that you don't like the Xfast as a flip/punch rod. I prefer a medium fast for punching.
  2. Looking for rigged assist in single hook. I can't get the one I used to like anymore, and I really don't like dealing with tying my own. Anyone else using them on spoons?
  3. I was never so humbled as when I got my first rig and started fishing as a boater. Man did I have a lot to learn.
  4. When storing for any duration it's good to back the drags off any reel. It prevents compression and sticking.
  5. Another great option is the St Croix Eye-Con. They've got just what you're looking for for not a lot of money.
  6. I'd take the Picasso every, single time. The skip gap has a rotten hookup ratio, dunno why, it just does. The Picasso has the Ti spring wire so it collapses pretty easily.
  7. I will argue that a thousand times a thousand again. I'd bet you that you cant get one more cast in than me switching hands. Most peoples hands have switched before the spool is done spinning. I've done the very thing against a friend and sometime tournament partner that is likely one of the best people I've ever fished with or against, and I came out ahead by something like 10 in a three minute period.
  8. I think it was a different post that got my ire, and you caught the blunt of it. And it wasn't so much an accusation as a statement of argue if you'd like to, but... All's well, even if it is just in my own little world.
  9. You're not telling me things I don't know. It's simply that there's so much misinformation out there that, as long as I've been in the industry in both retail and manufacturing/engineering, people believe what they want to believe. Oh, and, check your info on the Quantum blanks. By the way, I bought stock in Jarden long before their purchase of Pure FIshing.
  10. The are so much fun. I rarely say any animal has personality, but mini-donks do. I had a couple as a kid and they were more like dogs around the ranch than the dogs were. They'd follow us everywhere, they were wonderful with little kids. They were SUPER for taking to horse shows, kids could get up close and personal with them and they'd let them do near anything. Never had one bite or kick. We had one that was house broken and allowed her to come in as she got older, she wouldn't walk anywhere there was carpet, and slept in the kitchen. It's almost as though you could see the appreciation for letting her old bones get a break from the cold. She figured out how to let herself out, we'd check on her as it got dark, she'd be waiting on the mud porch... Enjoy your Christmas gifts, they're a lot of fun.
  11. I'm pretty fond of the Boom R Ang, but it's terrible and you're all happy with what you have so don't go out and try them.
  12. Not really all that sacred, either. I don't know of any crankbaits that have been declared as holy.
  13. Little John DD Northstar 3/4 Ounce Spinnerbait- Unnamed color Northstar 1/2 ounce Premier Jig- GP Candy Rage Lobster Trailer.
  14. They're made by an OEM manufacturer, as are many of the rods out there... I give up, you can think Quantum makes them all, it's easier that way.
  15. I have one spinning reel with 8lb on it, the remaining rods spooled with it are casting, of those I'm only using one or two consistently right now.
  16. Argue all you want, your speculation is just that. My knowledge is first hand, and I'll net get into it further. The Tec Spec rods aren't made by Quantum, either. It's a completely different strain of graphite...
  17. Knot Strength- VERY high knot strength resultant of the extremely high tensile strength when compared to other copolymer lines. I believe it floats, I used it briefly in October on the Rock for some Sammy and PopMax action and it handled that application very well. abrasion resistance is better than average to very good. I think the only more abrasion resistant line in the same class would probably be CXX.
  18. That would be the first time I've ever heard that, anywhere.
  19. I will sometimes crank in winter, but it's reserved for pretty specific instances on pretty specific lakes. In the Midwest when we get 32-34 degree water temps with open water, it's not a tactic I employ; I prefer to be successful on the water rather than waste my time slinging baits.
  20. What the Blue guy said, the XT is worth every penny and I'm a Pflooger hater. It's likely one of the very best values in spinning reels today. It's rock solid and has a great drag with really good gearing and IPT retrieve. It's also very light weight, coming in around the 7 ounce mark versus the Stradic at 9, roughly. Don't get me wrong, I'll forever be a Posse member with a full assortment of Shimano reels from the Stradic to a Stella, but if you're after a great value in a reel and absolutely do not want to spend over the $150 mark, the Supreme is a very good buy for your money.
  21. It's a lot different behaviour than Mono, though. It's a lot more supple than CXX and yet retains so much of that strength. It's also got less stretch than the very best of mono lines. I'm currently fishing it in 10 and 8 on a finesse jig rod and a jerkbait rig. I like it in cold water, for sure, it doesn't have the behaviour of a lot of lines that, in cold, want to turn into a slinky. It casts quite well, and has good diameters. The other two lines that I'm fishing are the new XPS Signature Mono and the Seaguar Shinsei. Shinsei has so far lived up to everything Seguar says. It's very small, very limp and quite low stretch for mono. It does have some memory, but I think that's the trade-off for getting the abrasion resistance and tensile strength. So far, the XPS signature is much like the Trilene XT from years past, only a little more supple. I'm reserving further comment on it as I've only fished it four times so far and haven't had the chance to really get after it on a jerkbait rod.
  22. Nope we won't have to disagree on that. You're 100% right and I'm 100% wrong. Seeing all of the information that I have, which was all published by Fuji, led me to believe incorrectly. I could have wread it wrong, but I don't think I did, I just misinterpreted it to mean something that it didn't.
  23. Awe shucks, everyone should try it once in their life!
  24. The Wild Shiner is a pretty decent bait, really. I've had great luck with it in extremely cold water as it's a very, very tight bait. It doesn't roll nearly as much as a Pointer 100, and it's not as wide as a Vision. Its primary drawback, to me, is that I usually want a shallower bait in that tight roll, and it's a deeper running bait. That said, you'll sort through a bunch of them in order to find a really good one.
