I lost my mom's "lucky" lure while fishing a few years ago. I broke it off on a snag and she was all sorts of upset. We couldn't remember what it was until the next spring. I was putting the boat in and saw a "something green" in the lake and went to look at it. Low and behold, her lure! My dad framed it for her and it now has a prominent place in their home. It is one of my favorite fishing stories. She now has as many of them as she can get her hands on, in all sorts of sizes. No matter what, she will outfish all of us on it, even if the conditions aren't "right" to use it. It brings her more luck than anything, and she enjoys giving us all grief about it.

Haven't seen a topic that is similar, but can you melt down and remold old soft plastics? What tools would be required, and, if you have done it, does it save much money? Thanks!

Yes Nebraska!!!!! I have found that, at least the lakes I fish around here, that silver/black and silver/blue work the best.

I have always loved catching bass on jerkbaits, it is one of my favorite bites to get hit on. I have been wanting to pick up a few of the Rogues, but wasn't sure if they matched the quality of the Rapala's I've been using, but the price differential (while somewhat slight) has always had me interested. Hearing that you've caught a bunch on them really makes me want to get a couple for the spring here. My big intro to jerkbaits was a Stacy King video which really goes into great depths on jerkbait fishing: when to use, colors, etc. If you have time I would suggest watching it to add another weapon into your arsenal. Hope everyone is having a good one!

Sorry, I was just going on an overall "general" bait that they were using besides jigs. It is quite amazing to see how it always ends up, with squarebills and lipless cranks the last few years being popularized with their success at the Classic. Or maybe, I guess, it is just an increase in sales and not really becoming more popular; but the success of the Classic winning baits can be great for certain types of lures.

Sorry if this has been posted before, but it seems this year it's going to be jerkbaits. Already being shown on the Bass Pro website, it seems that everyone is going to rush out and get new jerkbaits. Being from Nebraska, and used to colder water fishing, jerkbaits have always been a go to for me in colder weather, and I hope this leads to big sales on jerkbaits!!!!

Being that I'm from Nebraska, the weather is taking its annual trip down cold lane. This weekend, however, I'm still planning on heading out on the water to catch a few. Most of the articles I've read have given good advice on where to fish, and what presentations to use, however, I am not on a large, natural lake. I will be fishing a sand pit that's about a mile long, and reaches depths of 25-30 feet. I know I should still use a pig-n-jig, lipless crank, medium/deep cranks or jerkbaits. Any advice on where to catch these, there are really no sharp drop offs, mostly just gradual declines, but there are humps/flats that I usually fish off in the summer. Should I try where these flats get deeper? Or stick to the deeper, open waters. Thanks in advance, and please move this if it needs to be moved.

Right, and I get that, but that stops me from having a discussion on this why? I'm sure in that joking was a little truth, maybe a lot of truth, and i just felt that I could state my opinion on this.

I'm just saying another side to it, regardless of if it's just having fun, someone needs to play the other side. Like someone else said, everyone has their opinions, I'm saying mine.

Maybe they weren't sure how to use it. Maybe they weren't ever exposed to it. It's a good starting point for people to learn a new technique. Why must you all think that it's such a terrible thing? You all seem to be on your high horses, showing how you don't go out and buy things, and making those who do seem like they're not worth a lick at fishing. Why not let others enjoy fishing, however they would like to go at it. Fishing has always been, and will always be, fun, why can't they do what makes fishing fun to them, or makes them feel like they know something, even if they don't. They're not on this site saying they know everything in the world about fishing (though this is the first thread I've read today, so they may be) because they bought the lure that won the classic, they're just fishing.

to some of us, 3 lbers are pretty good, especially here in Nebraska, our average are probably 1-2 pounds..which is largely due to the fact that it's colder longer here, less of a growing time..i would be happy to bring in 3 lbers all day

Got one from just this weekend. It may not be so much a mistake, but just a funny/weird story. To preface, last year we went fishing with my mom, dad, and myself the third or fourth day we got our boat. My mom was killing it, she's quite the fisherwoman (my dad got a lucky catch with that one ) and had 4 white bass over 16 inches, and an 18 inch yellow bass. Also, she had two 18 inch lmb, all on the same green crank. My dad and I couldn't catch a cold that day, and we were just laughing our rear ends off. She would always call it her lucky lure, and one day, I decided to use it just to see. After a few casts, I get a snag on a sunken log, and couldn't get it out. The line snaps, and we lost the lure. She claimed I lost it on purpose, and won't live it down, always saying something about it whenever we go out and fish. Well, today, a year later, my dad and I our taking the boat out of the lake (a medium sized sand pit) and I look by the sore. I see a very lime green color in the weeds, and say to my dad, go check that out, it looks too green, I think it might be a lure. Thinking I had gotten lucky finding a new lure, he goes and picks it up. He just thinks it's another lure, and I look at it, and realize that it is the lure I had lost. The hook rust + winter, must have set it free, and it floated half way around the lake. I'm now lucky, and only have to buy two treble hooks for mothers day. ;D

Well, since we were talking about worst time hooking yourself, how about any mistake in general? I will throw out a funny story: my brother was running the tolling motor, getting mad at us cause we wanted to go closer to shore, and he kept going out a little ways. We were being sarcastic, and he said "fine, we'll go right to the middle." We get there, he goes to cast, loses his grip on his rod, and in it goes, 35 feet down.

For all of you who can't get live bait, work a cemetery, especially when you have to dig a grave in the rain, it's fun to go out with your friends just kick back and use worms that you got from a good hard day's work. Now, I used to fish mostly with live bait, and cranks, but I learned how to t-rig, and that is what really got me started, and I have shied away from live bait, but it is fun with my old man (who really isn't oldddd just 50), and it's good bonding time to go sit and hang out together. So, if I'm looking to go out and just have fun with dad, or friends, I tend to lean on live bait. While dad understands and appreciates the fact that I "hunt" for fish, my friends (and that special lady I love) just don't find much excitement in it. I can truly say, though I'm only 20, I love all sorts of fishing, live bait, artificials, for complements, and will never complain (unless I lose another husky jerk)!

If you don't mind, can I throw another question on to this as to not have two like threads? My question is, when using either a 1/4 oz egg sinker or a 1/4 oz worm weight, how do I get it so the sinker stays closer to the swivel? It seems when i cast, the sinker rises up on the line(towards the tip) and will cause shorter casts. Thanks for letting me tag on this question. Stephen

when isn't it fun to have a good time with friends, or family, and throw in a worm or minnow or heck even a hot dog and try and catch some fish on a nice day? i love throwing artificials..but some days it's just FUN to use a bobber, and sit back, relax, and let something elsedo the work for you..maybe have an adult beverage ;D

I have two revo's, they run smooth and cast well. I can only give my input on abu, but I'm almost positive both are good reels, and you can't really go wrong either way. It's more the fisherman than the reel anyways when youre talking quality reels

Free rod + free sweet jacket + free (11.95 s+h) glasses..i was happy.

I just picked up the Revo SX with a Vendetta 6'6 MH rod at Scheels for 169.99. The guy also threw in a sweet(though probably somewhat cheap) Abu Garcia windbreaker/rain jacket, and it comes with Wiley Polarized glasses. I think it's a pretty kick butt set-up, looks great, and the reason I picked this one up was because of the 7.1:1 gear ratio. Now, I plan on using this for buzzbaits, plastics, spinners and jerk baits, and the only reason I got a 6'6 rod is because it fits much better in my car, and I don't have a boat to keep it in all the time. Is the 6'6 rod going to hold me back from anything? Should I have gone 7', or will I be ok using a 6'6 rod for all of that stuff. I do remember watching a Rick Clunn video where he talks about how he doesn't really care much for the difference in size, as you learn a certain "feel" to every bait with one specific rod, so more than one rod size is somewhat obsolete. I don't know how many of you are believers in that, but I'm just wondering if it will still be able to do everything I want from it with just a 6'6 rod. Thanks Stephen

Sorry, I can't answer your question, but I can say that today I picked one of these up at our local Scheels, along with the new revo sx, and my, if looks amount to anything, it's a beautiful set-up, and I'm anxious to use it.

Thanks very much man. That would help a lot, I've been trying to read about it, and when they say to keep the reel handle facing up, something about that just seems weird to me, maybe because I cast side armed, with the handle facing down. Now, when equating it to pitching/throwing a baseball, is a 3/4 delivery good at all? or is it just overhand and side armed?
