Been watching it snow a couple inches here this morning and I am looking up reviews for a deep diving crankbait rod and some more DD22's. Seriously, not joking. Dobyns glass 765 in the lead at the moment!
Watermelon rd flk. I like to do everything from a deadstick drag to making 'em look like they're having a seizure on the way back to the boat. Probably going to get most of your fish on the fall, so just watch your line.
I don't have a problem with the guys taking fish home within the regs (we have a lot of put and take lakes around here), but it drives me nuts when I see abuse of the regs or when an area is cleaned out and left to look like an old homeless camp.
With your criteria in mind, you should go with the Duckett. It's 7'11", graphite (light), has micro guides, gets great reviews, and costs .01 less than your max budget. Perfect match.
Year round for me as well... if there's a big sale I'm likely to take"advantage" of it. Speaking of, I see a rod in the future during BPS' rod/reel trade in coming up next month.
Easy to dismiss him now for LSU fans, but if he's the next Andrew Luck and your next options are mediocre you'll always wonder what could have been. I'm sure he'll be hearing plenty of mom jokes regardless.
I wish Dick's was more consistent with all of their stores... any time I go to the one nearest me these sales are non-existent or they don't carry the specific product in the first place.
How do these rate versus the Yamamoto version? I've caught hundreds of SM, spots, and LM on those but wouldn't mind giving RT a try if they're more durable and just as productive.
