  1. x2... never had any problems with 6, 8, or 12 lb fluoro using the palomar.
  2. J already mentioned that. Definitely go with the e5. As had already been mentioned, it's more of a presonal preference for you regarding the colors. If you hate green then the Chronarch is for you, if not save a bunch of money and get a Curado 200e5. Either way you'll be getting a great reel.
  3. Yikes, you shouldn't be getting a BL every 4 or 5 casts. Make sure you have the braking system on rather strong with a weight towards the upper limit of your rod and make sure you do not cast back into any wind. Also don't "sissy" cast... give it a good toss out there and use your thumb to apply just a little pressure at the end of the cast. When you get your BL ratio more along the lines of 20:1, then start easing up on the brakes. Keep up the practice and you'll be efficient in no time.
  4. Curado >> BPS PQ > Orra > anything Okuma The 200e7 Curado would be more of an "all around" reel but the 50e is great with lighter baits. I have been more than pleased with the PQ's (I have 3) and it seems as though you can always get them on sale during the BPS classic and get an additional discount by trading in a reel. Cannot speak specifically for the Orra (I only having spinning option), but I'd suspect that the increased price vs a PQ is not worth it. Good luck!
  5. Tackle Tour rated the glass CB rod as being both better and lighter than the graphite version. I've been eyeing the 765 CB for a while but haven't quite pulled the trigger. Best of luck on your search.
  6. I broke down and drove 90 minutes to check one out today... only had a handful of things on sale that were far from impressive. I had planned to pick up a bunch of Rage products and other items I've read on here, but they either don't carry them or they weren't on sale.
  7. Sad to see the situation turn south like this. The owner should have just bit his tongue and kept his "politician" comments to himself. All Manning said was what everyone already knew about the atmosphere anyway. I've been assuming that Manning was going to retire, but if Irsay keeps this up I could see it motivating Manning to give it a go with a contender. Luck is likely going to be awesome, but there is obviously very little talent in Indy right now and they have years ahead of them before they'll be elite again. I'd love to see a 90% healthy Manning behind center for the 49ers.
  8. This thread is so all over the place that it's one of my all time favorites. Nice work fellas!
  9. Hey Grund... the guy that actually hosts the show and made it successful feels that it adds something to HIS show, so I imagine in his mind it belongs. That's obviously fine if you do not want to see or hear that sort of thing, but that doesn't mean it's stupid or worthless just because you do not like it. I am curious if Hank Parker is now going to be banned from saying "God Bless" at the end of his show. What a horrible man for saying those dividing words.
  10. Wow, that's not going to be cheap. Sounds like a cool vessel though... 312 ft long and 82 ft wide yet it can cruise through 9 ft of water.
  11. My local WM has been a joke tackle and rod/reel wise, so this would be a great change. I don't have a local tackle shop (BPS is 90 minutes away), so it would be great to be able to pick up some decent gear there in a pinch. I did see that they actually had a pack of authentic Senkos the other day... it had one peg mixed in with about 20 Yum pegs on the wall but it's a start. No rods over 39.99 yet.
  12. I've been using the red wacky head the past couple years and have been really pleased with the results. The "head" will eventually start to spin, but that's usually been about the time I'm ready to retire it anyway. I'd like to try the new one so hopefully it gets released within the next couple months.
  13. Yikes... glad you're alright. We had a neighbor that lost their son-n-law last year while working for PG&E. You just never know with electricity. Count your blessings.
  14. Awesome for you guys! We only get the bigger names out here in CA when the elite series comes out west, otherwise usually a bunch of solid anglers that I've never even heard of. Now I'm curious who might be heading out here.
  15. I'm going to have to go take a look at one of these guys because I'll probably be throwing small swimbaits with this rod more than DD's and I can't imagine the the 7'11" would be more overpowered than the Lami that I'm using for them now. Does it have enough tip to protect the trebles and launch 1/2oz baits (lower limit of rating)? Thanks for the input so far.
  16. Nice one... that's pretty funny right there. Tell them that's by far the most carcinogenic way to eat meat and that they are literally poisoning themselves. With the exception of burgers, pink in the middle is a good thing.
  17. Green pumpkin or smoke???
  18. I haven't noticed that as a problem with my 852, but then again my only GLX is an 803S so I can't give a good comparison. I second the lack of quality control issues on my end. I tend to think that they may be a bit overhyped (although I'll admit there should be zero problems with a $500 rod).
  19. Also only been the past couple years and I've been very underwhelmed. Have to say that I am definitely looking forward to going back this year for both the vendors and new rod trade in sale. Thanks for the heads up.
  20. Welcome to the boards! So, which specific rod did you get? I have a couple blues (852S and 893C). I absolutely love the combination of sensitivity and the feather weights of these rods and would love some more models, but my wife would kick my tail if I tried to buy another any time soon. Enjoy that awesome rod!
  21. Hey guys... need some help picking up a dual purpose rod if possible to throw both deep divers and small swimbaits (such as hollow bellies and small custom pours with trebles). I've heard great things about the Dobyns 765 CB (glass), including a stiffer tip than most glass rods that would excel as a multipurpose rod, but I was hoping someone had some experience trying to throw small swimbaits with a deep cranking rod. I currently have a Lamiglas XL705 glass CB rod, but it is too whippy for anything beyond medium depth cranks. I'm hesitant to lay down $200+ on a rod only dedicated for deep cranking, but it's a done deal if it can also throw the small swimbaits. Any thoughts/recommendations would be great. Thanks!
  22. Well, at least they have a GM that's not afraid to hire "his" guy. I thought for sure they'd be chasing a big name. Hopefully this works out.
  23. Used a number of them before I started using a lot more fluoro. They are a great budget friendly option.
  24. That would have been one heck of a lineup if V-Mart wasn't out for the year. This at least keeps Detroit in the converstion with NY, Boston, Texas, and the Angels.
