  1. No significant breaks for me. As long as my schedule allows I get out on the water at least 1x/wk.
  2. If you're worried about a knee or ankle injury, then your kids should probably avoid soccer. If you're worried about your kid's brain, then they should NOT play full contact football (flag would be great). Studies are just coming out that show how sensitive a developing brain is from mini-concussions. They've also done IMPACT testing on high school football players that show their brain starts out at a certain level during their freshmen year, functions at a lower level by the end of football season, mostly recovers by the end of the year, and then that cycle continues all 4 years. This results in a slower functioning brain at graduation than what they had beginning of freshmen year. That's a huge problem. I lucked out on this one by having daughters, but if I had a son it would definitely be a no go for full contact football at least until his freshmen year (with me crossing my fingers he loved baseball and basketball). Kids' brains just aren't made for that type of repetitive mini-trauma. Not worth it.
  3. NRX 893 with a Chronarch 50e... sweet set up that could handle just about everything if you could only take one rod.
  4. That was pretty stinkin funny. I would've definitely been a little freaked.
  5. LM = 6 lbs (5-6 of them... cannot get over the hump!). I had a 12+ within about 5 feet of the boat until she did an unanticipated head shake when I took my eye off of her waiting for the net. That still hurts. Literally every time I go by that spot, painful. Took a buddy out for his birthday last spring (gets to fish 3-4x/year) and he caught a 10 lb 4 oz out of the back of my boat on a 4" grub I rigged up for him. Go figure!
  6. No doubt about that. I went to the Skins-Raiders game last week and it was pretty sad to see in person. RG3 was getting run down by 350 pound lineman and had no break away speed at all. The defense is fair at best and I seriously think they would have lost by 10+ if Pryor was playing instead of Flynn (now cut). Not holding my breath on another division title this year unless things really change. Sunday night could be ugly.
  7. Saints v Broncos... could be the first ever 100 point game (combined) in Superbowl history!
  8. So much for the 5-0 but they sure look tough. If they get home field I'm not sure who could beat them, but on the road they're vulnerable against any upper tier opponent. Denver's offense against Seattle's defense could make for a really intriguing Superbowl.
  9. That was a great game. I don't like taking pleasure in someone else's moment of failure, but as a Skins fan that interception was alright. Romo
  10. Check out Ish's video (modification @3:45) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tJ0K00DBFjI
  11. Stradic FJ would look sweet on the Veritas, not to mention it's a heck of a reel.
  12. Yeah, I'd like to say that's the case (bad batch/old line) but I've heard way too many stories about problems for it to be just a handful of random bad batches. I think I've probably just been lucky...
  13. I have a few LTB's and a couple Champions, and I have to say I really like both lines but would give a small edge to the LTB. The 71MF will be an incredibly versatile rod and fit your needs well. Regardless, you will not "lose" with any of those options.
  14. BPS Pro Qualifier is a great first reel and veritas MF or MHF would make a nice combo for you.
  15. I'm one of the few that has had really good success with the Floroclear. I've since transitioned away from it in favor of Yozuri hybrid (strong as can be) and straight fluorocarbon, but I never had any breakage issues with anything from 4-12 lb.
  16. Tubes and grubs work pretty much all year long. Get some 1/8 oz and 1/4 oz tube jig heads and darterheads and you're good to go with that spinning set up.
  17. Their store just doesn't compete with local competition well (obviously online either) with the exception of the spring sale. That's the one time of year I spend a chunk of money at BPS. More often than not I'm just browsing due to the high prices.
  18. BTD will have random 25% off sales every now and then (I just picked up a 765 FLIP during the last one). They're in CA, so that's no tax and free shipping for you. Have a little patience and you'll be set. THUT (in AZ) also has 20% a few times per year, TW will be 20% off Black Friday.
  19. I liked split EVA the first time I saw it but after a few trips I was over that and back to cork.
  20. Don't give up on the Ci4+... the next one will be buttery smooth and worth the time it took to get this right. My wife orders $200 boots and $100+ jeans whenever she sees a new TW order arrive. I have to get that timing just right to keep the closet from filling up.
  21. I use them as my ultra finesse technique when the bite is tough. Favorite is Dry Creek's Drop Shot tube (2.75") and 2.5" Gitzits on 1/8 or 1/16 oz jig heads with an exposed hook and 4# Tatsu. It's a blast when they're hammering these.
  22. Nice job! Probably made your back feel better too. Being couped up and avoiding everything is every bit as bad for your back as doing too much. Glad to hear your doc was good with you going as long as you took it easy...
  23. Chronarch 50e slings a 1/8 oz head with a 4" grub better than I would have ever imagined.
  24. 4# Tatsu... tip on the 822 SYR handles that light line perfectly
