  1. Mid-60's yesterday and supposed to get up to 80* next week, so of course that means 7" of snow this afternoon with a little more expected overnight. The boys definitely had a good time though.
  2. Weather forecast was for the potential of 1-3" overnight. Before dark we already had 7"!
  3. They're even making appearances in CA now all the way down south of Yosemite. That was inconceivable just a couple years ago.
  4. That hopefully already deceased bird was pinned in the grille debris for a couple seconds and then somehow worked its way directly to the path of the rear driver's side tire. 7000 pound tortilla press merged that poor bird with the pavement. Even cousin Eddie wasn't touching that one. 😬
  5. Had a flock of turkeys fly out right in front of me on narrow a 2-lane highway while doing 55 mph. Amazing how much damage a 10-15lb bird can do when you're at that speed. I ended up hitting 3 of them with one off the windshield (no damage), one off the bumper (very small dent), and one through the plastic grill (broke it into numerous pieces and pushed all the way into the radiator). Radiator wouldn't hold fluid, so I had to have a 3/4 ton diesel towed to the shop because of a 10-15lb bird. 😆
  6. Been eyeing a Vanquish for years after reading so many great reviews, and when Amazon Japan had it $100 less than everyone else I couldn't pass it up. Putting it on an NRX 822SYR for microjigs and light shakey heads. Also had to pick up some tackle from Omnia's recent sale.
  7. Had a great day out on the water. Started off sunny and by lunchtime the storm had moved in with some cool rain and snow up the hill. Water temp 58* and saw some bucks up shallow making beds. Good times just right around the corner. They were primarily interested in finesse and a wacky senko was the ticket. Underspin also picked up quite a few, including this overzealous crappie. No giants but catching a bunch of 15-18" spots was a great time.
  8. Thank you for sharing and thoughts and prayers to the family this Easter weekend.
  9. How 'bout them VOLS! Seems like UConn and Purdue are destined to play each other in the championship game, but it would be pretty awesome to see Tennessee against Alabama in the final.
  10. I use mine for spinnerbaits but wouldn't hesitate to use it for jigs or countless other things. $500 is a big price for any real, but if you order from Japan it's a little less painful at around $350.
  11. Wow, Tennessee did their best to give that one away until they stepped up at the end. Congrats on the sweet 16!
  12. You'll love that 843. You already made your choice but I'll still add in my .02. I have the 842 and 903 and it depends what "all purpose" means to someone. The 842 is a great all-purpose finesse baitcaster for things like tubes, drop shots, 1/8oz+ Neds, shaky heads, 2.8-3.3 Keitechs, shaky heads, micro/finesse jigs, etc and the 903/843 is a great all-purpose rod for jigs, spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, t-tigs, etc. Enjoy your new rod!
  13. Since those are all treble hook baits and comfortably within the range of both rods I'd say you can't lose either way. However, if you think you may throw the 8" magdraft a lot or get into bigger rats/wake baits I'd go with the 2-5oz.
  14. I use mine for jerkbaits from fall through early spring and switch it to a popper/walking rod from spring through summer. Great rod for those techniques.
  15. I love the 68MXF blank and have it in a couple of their lineups. Excellent wacky senko rod but also works well with other finesse techniques. IMO it's one of their best rods.
  16. I'm rooting for you. I remember the days of Allan Houston shooting the lights out and being so enjoyable to watch and Bruce Pearl going crazy shirtless in the student section. Be awesome seeing TN make a final 4 run and I don't see any reason they couldn't beat Purdue (or whoever beats Purdue before then). Going to be a fun ride these next couple weeks.
  17. I've read some enthusiasts love it and some think it's an underwhelming batch. I'll let mine open up a bit before making a decision, but since I don't have a point of reference (vs other batches) and enjoy Buffalo Trace I assume I'll end up liking it quite a bit.
  18. Been very spring-like the past few days and now we're headed right back into a winter pattern for the next week or so.
  19. Always love this day and the inevitable upset of a blue blood program or top seed by some little random school. I'll admit it, I've been taking this day off from school or work for nearly 30 years now and it almost always delivers. I don't have anything against Kentucky and them having the 2 highest NBA prospects in college, but it was so awesome seeing Oakland University beat them today after being led by a division two 4-year transfer student Jack Gohlke get the second most 3-pointers in the history of the tournament and 32 points. I also enjoyed seeing Gonzaga smoke 30-4 McNeese State tonight after so many "experts" picked Gonzaga going out in the first round. I imagine @TnRiver46 and thousands of other Tennessee fans loved the way today played out. Can't wait for tmw...
  20. After being a novice bourbon hunter for the past 2-3 years I was shocked to come across Stagg at our little mountain liquor shop at close to retail. I've heard it really opens up after you open the bottle, so I had a small pour tonight after opening it. Since it's a bit of a unicorn around here I'll be holding off on the next pour until a special occasion.
  21. Took the day off to get some fishing in before the next series of storms come in and the NCAA tourney starts (#priorities 😆). Incredible March weather today with temps around 70* and water temps around 58*, but I could not find consistent fish deep or shallow. Strange day and the biggest fish of the day was a 3lb rainbow on a spark shad deep into a creek channel. Caught a few smallish spots on finesse tackle and couldn't even get a follow after throwing a 10" swimbait for a couple hours. Hopefully we'll get into a spring pattern after this next series of storms passes through (snow expected tmw night).
  22. 795 is a nice rod for wakes, rats, magnum topwaters, magdrafts, and mid-sized glides. Single hook is a different story but depends on what you're wanting to throw. It would do fine with a 68 Hudd or burrito, but I wouldn't recommend it for anything larger than that.
  23. Not the best lighting but here it is next to the regular Met. The DC is quite dark... I'd describe it s dark gray bordering on almost black.
  24. Just pulled one out of the package to check and it's more conventional with a little more hefty/durability feeling than I would have anticipated. Also, now my fingers smell like overly ripe corn chips. 😆
  25. Ghost minnow is tough to beat, but there are also times they really like red (Delta/spring craw) or something with a little more flash like American shad. Great baits... just stings when you lose one!
