I've been looking to add one more baitcaster to my arsenal and the bait monkey has my attention with the current Memorial Day weekend sales. At this point I've narrowed it down to a Mossyback (BCR853) or Avid (AVC70MHXF) with the intention of throwing light jigs and T-Rigs. I have the LTB Teaser rod (7 ft MF) and really like that rod, but I don't want to have two rods on deck from the same series. I do not have a Loomis BC but love my spinning drop shot rod and have heard that if I like the DS rod I'll love the Mossyback. Any recommendations??? Thanks for the help!
Quite the spirited topic and it's nice to see it staying civil. I figured there would be variable weights between Senkos and other stick baits, but I am surprised to see that they weigh so much more than the BPS version.
I'd say that's a great rod for that application either way. If you like split grips, go LTB, if not... Avid. I doubt that you'd notice much of a difference performance wise between the two. I personally like my LTB better, but it probably has more to do with the looks of it than performance over the Avid.
I have a couple Mojos and have been pleased with their performance. There may be some other rods in that price point that may "rate" a little higher, but if you like the way they look and really want one you'll likely be very happy with your purchase. It's all in the eye of the beholder. The MBC70MF is a nice all around rod that would fit a number of presentations.
Funny you mention this... I was nothing but a trout fisherman until a few years ago when a buddy finally talked me into going out bass fishing. Now I fish for bass 90%+ of the time. For me it's a combination of the chance to catch a bunch of fish and not knowing if it's a 10 incher or a 5 pounder picking up my drop shot.
Excellent points across the board. One thing is for sure... the guys out harvesting bass should stay the heck away from your lake since the bass will be full of the chemicals. It seems like the fishing would initially pick up due to them hanging around the same available cover, but then the population would suffer as the bait fish lose all their "safe" spawning areas.
Can't beat Invizx but YoZuri is an excellent option if you don't want to spend too much $$$. Definitely keep it under 8 lbs or you're asking for trouble.
Tough to beat the PQ at BPS. Best news is that it is a good enough performer that it will stay in your arsenal if you end up buying a number of other setups.
Sometimes I want to put scent on plastics to disguise my own scent more than anything but hesitate to put on any of the gels because my hands will subsequently stink and my wife can't stand the smell. I could obviously prepare and bring disposable gloves, but I'll forget more often than not. Haven't heard may good things about spray ons but figured it may be a good idea to have some on stand by in the boat. Any recommendations???
Go with a Curado... I may be going crazy, but I don't remember ever seeing a Curado for $100 more than a Revo. The SX or STX are 169/199 and the Curado is 179. You can even find them quite a bit cheaper than that with some Google searches.
