Navplanner2 is pretty cool, should be good for what you're trying to do. You can look at the Navionics website and see if the lakes you're interested in are on their map chips, if they are then you should be able to view them in navplanner2. You can't transfer the maps out of it but you can plot waypoints on it and transfer them to your gps, I'm pretty sure you can print maps on it also but I haven't done that.
  3. Bill Dance will be at the Memphis store Sat. the 12th but that's part of a boat show, not the Spring Classic.
  4. I'm pretty happy with the rods and reels I have right now but if there was a quantam leap made in technology I guess I'd want to check it out. Something along the lines of standard sonar compared to SI, that was a quantam leap IMO
  5. That precision trolling book is really meant for diving depths while trolling with different lengths of line out, it won't tell you much about diving depths for casting, I have that book. I would put a snap on and go cast them around on a shallow flat somewhere, you could go through them pretty quickly. Also, if you know the makes and models of your baits you could probably just look at the packaging at BPS or online at TW.
  6. Covered up at my house.
  7. Son, now that was a pretty good one
  8. Nice read, thanks!
  9. I don't want to discourage you, maybe someone will chime in with a better outlook, but I fished it Sat before last and talked to several other people and the best 2 reports I've heard are 3 fish for 2 guys we met at the ramp, I met 2 guys there last Sat who said they had caught 6 the w/end before w/ no keepers, and had 0 that day, RW and I only had 1 keeper, every other report I heard was a shutout. I plan on fishing close to home the next couple of weeks until the weather warms a little and Pickwick gets back on track. Another thing, if we get this snow and rain the next couple of days there may be a shallow bite up in the back of Yellow or Indian somewhere, you never know Let us know what ya'll do anyway.
  10. I don't agree V Chase, no big deal. I've caught a lot of fish on the grub trailers, reasonably clear water and a situation where you're fishing in 4' plus so you can get a good vertical drop on the jig, they aren't half bad. As far as the pinchers on craw trailers being the trigger, I catch at least 1/3 of my jig bass on craws with one of the appendages already bitten off. A study done by Berkley indicated that 1 or no pinchers on a craw trailer got more bites than baits with both pinchers - see "Knowing Bass" by Keith Jones. Don't know why Berkley never brought that craw to market though, lol. Basically it would look like about a 2' Senko threaded onto the hook I guess...
  11. Dang Kent, tell me how you really feel dude I agree w/ you about Vanish. The same seminar w/ the guys I named above, 2 of the 3 were sponsored by Berkley at the time, they all still trashed Vanish pretty hard, lol. What was your issue w/ the CX? I've been using 6lb Pline cxx for a while (along w/ my el cheapo BPS excel mono) and really like it, just interested in the cx for a little upgrade on line properties and I like the low diameters, their 8lb is about .92 I think. Anyway, check your trash can and holler at me.... ;D
  12. Thanks IB. I know how to tie a Palomar, saliva, whole deal, I agree it's about the quickest/easiest one to tie. I just went through a period of several years at one time where I broke off dozens of big fish using it on light Flouro - never a problem on heavier Flouro or Mono with it, basically thinking I was just having a run of bad luck. Then I go to a seminar at BPS and 3 pros, Ron Shuffield, Stacey King and Pete Ponds are all sitting around and the subject comes up of Palomars and light Flouro being a bad combo and they all agreed on it 100% - the line cuts itself sometimes. I changed my knot back to the Clinch and I don't think I ever broke off another fish on Flouro again after that but I still don't use it on spinning tackle because of the memory issues. I've been using mono on my spinning gear and liking it but I'm hoping to get a little bit better managability and casting distance w/ the copoly.
  13. That would be the 9lbr.
  14. Thanks guys, I'm feelin' better. Everything I've heard about this line sounds like exactly what I want but there were just a couple of mentions of break offs that had me wondering, can't wait to try it.
  15. I was above the dam, Yellow, Panther, Dry Cr area. I don't think things are any better below the dam, one of RW's buddies is a guide over there and I'm pretty sure they told us they blanked on Smallies in the tailrace Saturday before last on live bait, that is depressing.
  16. Steezy, are you using light line? I heard the problem was with the lower test line, like 6 & 8 lb. That is where I was having my problems with the Palomar on straight Flouro line also, I think it cuts through itself.
  17. I have some CX Copoly ordered and plan on trying it on some spinning reels in 8lb, heard great things about the manageability on spinning reels. I also saw a couple of posts on here about breakoffs which concerns me a little. I have had that issue with Flouro in the past with the lighter lines while using a Palomar knot. Just wanted to see if that was the case with guys who are breaking off on the lighter CX. Once I went to a Clinch or Trilene knot on my lighter flouro (this was recommended by Stacey King and Ron Shuffield at a BPS seminar) the breakoff issue dissapered but I don't like the way flouro (and most mono) acts on spinning reels so I'm looking at CX. The other question is this, I plan on doing some Dropshotting with this line and I usually use a Palomar knot, has anyone fished a DS with a Clinch knot? Or a loop knot? Just looking for ways to avoid the breakoff issue if it is being caused by the Palomar.
  18. I pretty much use low viz green across the board these days but I'm not fishing in gin clear water very often either.
  19. This forum is unreal, I'm glad there isn't an "add to cart" button anywhere or I would go broke
  20. Nice colors!
  21. That is restaurant quality!
  22. Very nice! I feel your pain on that Shad kill too!
  23. I went Sun and loaded up my GPS w/ brushpiles but didn't have time to fish. The WT was 39-41 that day and there were still a lot of floaters and birds hanging around, hopefully we'll get a little warm weather and that will pass soon. I was marking a lot of bait and fish in the 20-30 foot zone off of points at creek mouths all day.
